  1. My fan ran the same when I ran the tutorials from a copy on the hard disk image as it did when I ran from the CD. I think CRSA is right, the tutorial is very processor intensive.
  2. I didn't check the temp but my fans wound up to what seemed like full speed when I did that on my MacBook. Not sure why.
  3. Thanks for the link VG. Any idea why there wasn't more fanfare from NNA for the release of this service pack?
  4. Thanks for the suggestion, Peter. Unfortunately, I had already ungrouped my roof objects when I read your post. I'll give your method a try next time around.
  5. Thanks for the info. I'll look into ungrouping then. I have been trying to stick with roof objects because it seems easier to change things like overhang and slope if I need to.
  6. Bummer. It would be great if we had some control over this in the OIP. I'd like to be able to turn this line on and off and change it from a continuous line to a dashed line. I guess the VW way would be to allow us to set the class for that line. Hopefully in the next revision. I guess in the mean time I can try to mask the line with another line or rectangle.
  7. Seth, If I draw a rectangle and fill it in solid black, that fill does NOT display when I switch to B&W display setting. If I fill the rectangle with a pattern, the pattern DOES display properly. I guess this is how it's supposed to work but I must say that it doesn't make much sense to me - that BLACK displays WHITE when set to B&W. DW, I'm using SectMkr-1 for the VP section marker. This shows as filled with a black arrow in the preview but fills white when I change to B&W display setting. I suppose that I could modify the marker but am more than a bit miffed that I have to FIX VW myself - isn't VW supposed to SAVE me time? To add to the confusion, if I insert a Reference Marker (from the Dims/Notes tool set,) it properly displays black in the B&W display setting. Is there a reason that the Reference Marker behaves one way and the Section Marker behaves another? Aren't they supposed to be the same thing?
  8. Is there a way to turn off or change the line type on the wall line on a roof object? I'm finding the solid line a bit confusing on a roof plan. Thanks.
  9. I'm pretty sure that VW2008 comes with some actual 3d models of trees (NOT image props) but I can't find the darn things. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm also looking for relatively simple 2d vector elevations for trees. Does VW2008 come with any? Any suggestions where I might find some? I also have VW 12.5 - were there any models or elevations of trees with that? Thanks.
  10. Also, without sheet layers, one can only export VP elevations by ADDING design layer viewports to workflow and one can't export sections at all.
  11. Thanks, Pete. I missed the check box for start and end uprights. That makes things a little bit better.
  12. Thanks for looking, Robert. I don't know what happened. The first few section markers that I placed had the text offset as you said. Then the next couple wound up with the text locked on the center of the marker and end of section line. I eventually got the text moved on them but it took MANY attempts. Thanks for the script. Hopefully I won't need it any time soon. I certainly apologize for the frustration apparent in my original post but I really don't understand why the text isn't attached to the actual marker (circle, arrow, etc) and why the markers' behavior isn't coordinated with the "regular" Reference Marker. It would seem like you'd want both the dynamic and static reference markers to behave and look the same way.
  13. OK - I just tried to use a pattern fill and that didn't work either. In fact, the VP Section marker doesn't appear to display ANY type of fill (using the attributes palette) when Black and White Only is selected. Am I doing something wrong? I am simply selecting the section marker and trying to change the fill by using the attributes palette. Is there another way to do this?
  14. OK - it looks like the railing PIO is close but no cigar. The miter appears to work in plan but not quite in 3-d. If you miter the ends of two handrails and align them in plan, the end post aren't properly aligned in 3-d - you wind up with an end post for each length of rail overlapping in a weird way, rather than aligning perfectly so that it appears that there is only one corner post. Bummer.
  15. WHY ISN'T THE TEXT ATTACHED TO SECTION MARKERS WHEN CREATING A SECTION VIEWPORT? I've created section viewports and set them to Elevation Configuration. The text doesn't move with the markers to the center of the section line. What's more, I can't move the text because it's center is coincident with the end of the section line - so I move the section line every time I try to move the text. Can someone either provide me with the magic incantation required to move the text or the home address of the individual responsible for this? Thanks.
  16. OK so this isn't exactly a VW wish list item but... I'm new to VW and use this forum daily to find answers and learn more about the product. I do frequent searches for answers to questions that I have so I wind up looking at old posts on a fairly regular basis. The fact that our signatures are dynamic links to our profiles rather than static text is sometimes confusing. Many posters (myself included) have current VW and OS version in their signature so that they don't have to list it when they post questions. As they update VW and their OS, they update their signatures. Given that signatures are dynamic, we then wind up with incorrect, updated VW and OS information attached to old questions and answers. This often makes it difficult to determine how well the question or answer applies to my current situation. Is it possible to configure the forum to create static signature "snap-shots" for each post?
  17. I can't seem to get my section marker arrows to fill in solid when viewed in black & white. I, create a section viewport from a design layer and use the attributes palette to fill the arrow in solid black but when I view the marker in a black & white viewport (or when I check Black and White Only in Document Preferences,) the marker arrow appears unfilled. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone out there help me?
  18. Sandking, yes - I'd try deleting the files at an OS level. I had trouble with VW12 when I was running it and the NNA Tech had me delete the pref files and that fixed the problem. I haven't had to do this with VW2008 so I'm not sure if the files are the same. I'd do a search in both user and HD Library Preference folders for vectorworks and delete .plist files with dates matching the last time you opened VW. OR you could call tech support and see what they say about the file locations.
  19. I'm running VW2008 SP1 on a MacBook 1.83 GHz w/ 2G RAM and have not had this problem. I was running OS X 10.4.9 and recently upgraded to 10.4.11 (I skipped 10.4.10 due to audio issues.) Are you running VW2008 SP1? If not, try updating. You could also try upgrading the OS to 10.4.11. I wouldn't be in a huge hurry to upgrade to OS X 10.5 - I think that there are still issues with VW and the OS itself. Sounds to me like it could be a setting somewhere (because it's not all of VW.) When you reinstalled, did you delete your preferences files? If not, try quitting VW, deleting them (I think that there are 3,) and restarting VW. You'll lose any settings that you've changed and will need to reenter you s/n but it might fix the problem. Hope you get it fixed soon.
  20. I'm TRYING to use the Handrail PIO. Can someone tell me what the Start Miter, End Miter, and Caps parameters do in the Handrail PIO? I've messed around with them but nothing seems to change. Also, is there a way to create an "L" configuration for railings that actually miter the corner? Thanks.
  21. You can also use Offset Insertion Mode in either 12.5 or 2008. Just click the button to the right of the Standard Insertion Mode button on the door toolbar. Then you click on the corner that you want to reference, click along the wall that you want the door in, then enter your offset distance in the dialog box that pops up. The same option is available when inserting windows.
  22. Is there a tool, or a way to create a tool, that toggles Naming Standard's "enable Auto-Classing"? What I'm looking for is a tool button that can turn Auto-Classing on and off and show it's current state? It would operate similar to the Constraints Palette. I'm trying to use auto-classing but I find that I'm constantly turing it off to move things to a demo layer and back on so that I can quickly draw walls, doors, and windows without having to manually set classes. I already have a keyboard shortcut that gets me to the Standard Naming dialog where I can check and uncheck the Auto-Classing check-box but I'm finding that this doesn't quite fit the bill. The best solution would be something that showed my current state AND allowed me to change it.
  23. Katie, are you saying that we can use plan view hatch to somehow hatch elevation viewports? If so, can you please explain how? Thanks.
