  1. I have been experiencing problems with texture mapping of late. I thought it was the file I was working on so I created a new file with only one new object. Created a new texture and applied it to the 3d polygon. Then I click on texture mapping and @#$%$#@#$% VectorWorks craps out with a type 1 or 3 error. Vector works fine until I try to edit the object mapping or render an object. I have also tried the same experiment with and extruded rectangle with the same result. I am running system 9.1 powermac 9500 with Newer MaxPower 400 upgrade, 512 built in ram.I am running Vector Works 9.5 update downloaded from NEMETSCHEK site.Vectorworks has 300 megs allocated. I have tried less or more with no effect. System was working fine. The only system modification I have made are:1. The addition of Quick time 5.05 from apples web site (recommended) version.2. Carbon 1.5 Is this a problem with VectorWorks, RenderWorks, QuickTime, or Carbon 1.5???Any one else have the same problem.Bob Tiedemann

  3. MSL RuntimePPC++.DLL This is an extension and according to Conflict Catcher it is: "This is a shared library which provides system services for applications written in CodeWarrior." 4. This was only a problem because it interrupted my work on a weekend when I couldn't call tech support. I always start my search with the tech support board. The community of users is a great resource that very few companies have tapped for support help. Thanks, Bob Tiedemann
  5. Thank you TiTaNiuM sAMuRai. I reinstalled Quicktime 5.05 from the apple web site and this time installed the middle level (recommended) and all is well again. It is a small screw up that needs more attention in the help menu. Bob Tiedemann
  6. After rendering even a simple file RenderWORKS 9.5 WILL NOT EXPORT A RENDERING! Not even a very simple cube. When I go to export the image, nothing happens, not even the menu pops up. Not one @#$#%$^^$$# thing. I have used this feature a lot so I know it used to work. What happened. I just spent several hours re-down loading VW 9.5 update and reinstalling the complete program back to version 9.1. The only thing I remember putting in recently is carbon 1.5 and QuickTime 5.05. I have restarted with only the Apple extensions on and no luck. Help!!! Bob Tiedemann
  7. Glen, I have been a Minicad/Vectorworks user for a long time and as an industrial designer I have been looking for many of the same things. VectorWorks 9.01 is a fine cad package and the new nurbs features are a great improvement but if curves and blended surfaces are what you are searching for you have to make the jump to FORMZ . I am presently using both. If I want to build basic shapes and dimensioned layouts fast I use VW. If I need to create plastic formed shapes for stereo lithography I use FORMZ. The 2 programs are for different things. If you are using a Windows PC there are a lot of other 3d sculpting packages that will do what you looking for but for. As for the Mac platform its really only FORMZ. P.S. It took me almost 2 weeks of reading manuals before FORMZ started making sense but now I can blend, fillet, warp, bend, and revolve in more ways than I can remember. I still have to revert back to VectorWorks for Drafting. You can see my early Minicad work on this web site in gallery under Robert Tiedemann, Stamford, CT (a pump cutaway drawing)
  8. I have installed 9.0.1 updates on two machines. Both running 9.0 VW my machine at work a 533 G4 and my machine at home an upgraded 9500/400MHZ G3. Both work fine but the speed has dropped slightly on each machine for rendering previously built models. Is their a common file we could test against.
  9. I was able to get it from a link at (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/) it has now been removed. It was also remoned from www.versiontracker.com. Bob Tiedemann
  10. I just installed the new GeForce2 MX drivers 2.1.1 that were pulled from the Apple support page and they work fine with my G4 533 and Vectorworks 9. I don't know if I have killed any thing else yet but I have drawing handles and all the GeForce extensions are on. Now it would be nice to get the long awaited update. Bob Tiedemann
  11. Steve Frushour I am not using VW * but I still have it installed jus in case. I have found that 9 does not handle old textures well so if you are working with both VW 8 and 9 you will from time have problems. Also I have noted VW 9 is very picky about what it applies textures to. I had a ceiling that was extruded with holes subtracted via extruded cylinders that would bomb my machine any time I tried to use renderworks. But I really like the new stuff in VW9 and and I can't wait until it all works. Bob T
  12. I have been producing 3D models of POP displays with lots of different labels. I have set up my G4 533 and PowerMac 9500/Newer 400 G3 to run with 300 megs allocated to Vectorworks from a total of 640 real megs of ram. Renderings seem to take about 2 hours to run. Note: Be careful with images you map. If you have problems go back into the images and reduce them one by one. try to keep individual sizes down to about 400 to 600K occasionally I will map a single image to 1500K.
  13. Warning! When you render files created with Vectorworks 8.5.2 or before remove all the old style textures and recreate them in Vectorworks 9. I have been experienced major crashing problems with old files, with old style textures. If any one knows a better work around I would like to know? Unfortunately I have not created all my files with classes so revising old files can be time consuming. The crash only occurs if you try to render, but not consistently. Bob Tiedemann
  14. Sorry to be a pest but I got this response from my post for help on the apple support BBS and I thought I would share it with my fellow Vectorworks users. It appears that we are alone with our video problems. "francois Chatelain GeForce 2 MX and ArchiCAD (G4 533, nVidia GeForce 2 MX, 1.12 Gb ram, Mac OS 9.1) Same Hardware here, but different Software (ArchiCAD 6.5), and no problems at all. I thought I'd post this here just to keep the war between the different CAD packages going ;-) On a serious note, the nVidia card works smoothly with ArchiCAD."
  15. I just installed the latest NIVIDA drivers in my PowerPC G4 533 workstation and I still don't have handles when drawing. Does anyone have a solution that doesn't disable part of my machine. Turning off colors is not a fix since renderworks needs them to work. Best to all Bob Tiedemann

  17. Yes, I read the manual also. But what does vectorworks nurbs do with this other than pipes. Can I vary the extrude along a path to construct a tuba or a snake? The manual is very light in this area. I would like to fillet shapes or blend a rectangle into a square. What I meant was how does vectorworks define NURBS and has any one seen any simple shapes constructed with this feature. SEE 3d manager reference on this page.
  18. I have been using Minicad since the beginning of time and this latest upgrade is my new favorite. 1. I really like the spell check. 2. Extrude along a path. This a great new feature but how is this better than 3d manager and will 3d manager work with VW 9? 3. What do they mean by NURBS? How and why are they used? What does extrude along a path do other than railings, pipe or hose? I need more info on the new N??? Feature. The new manual has very little Info on this! HELP more info. required!
  19. Opps! I forgot the message. In any case the NVIDIA GeForce update does not work on my G4 533.! If you look at the Apple techsupport BBS a hack is listed that involves TOME viewer and editing the applescript included in the updater, not my idea of a fix. I am sure that system 10 will fix the problem. Unfortunatly my office is not upgrading to 10 until the software problems are worked out . Thats about 2 years away! Bob Tiedemann

  21. I just installed Vectorworks 9 and Renderworks 9 in my office G4 533 with a NYVIDA color board and the video problem still exists. I have no handles onless I work at 256 color mode. Bob Tiedemann However this is a great program. Its much faster than 8.5.2.
  22. You may find it easier to create tubes or columns as sweeps rather than extruding a circle. This will allow you to control the size, shape the number of polygons in a 3d model. The extrude a circle path only allows for variation in height and small, medium and large for definition of the circle. Since Large models can get to be a real bear with VectorWorks it helps to vary the size of model geometry and only put high-rez 3d shapes in the foreground where it counts. Of course I have no idea what new features Vectorworks 9 will bring. Bob Tiedemann Tiedemann Design
  23. quote: Originally posted by doug shaffer: hello - I called Nemetschek Tech Support last week and was told that they were receiving an enormous number of calls reporting the problem with broken rulers and missing selection handles. The tech support person I spoke with said that at a MINIMUM, he had recieved 50 calls regarding the issue. I realize that these problem may be due confilcts between OS9.1 and the graphics drivers included with the video cards. However, because they seem only to be showing up in Vectorworks, I don't expect to get much help from Apple. I have called them several times and they claim to never have heard of the problem. I hope that Nemetschek can use its muscle with Apple to come up with a solution to this problem SOON. We are wasting too much time trying to solve it, and feel that we may be exhausting our possibilities for a solution. Disabling extensions that render the graphics card useless is a reasonable short term (one week?) solution, but we must have a long term solution soon. This is not a rant against Nemetschek. I just want some official response from them to assure us that Nemetschek is working hard on the problem. thanks -
  24. My office set me up with a new 533MHz G4 with NVIDIA GeForce" MX video-card. I have called Nemetschek tech support and Apple tech support with out any success. I replaced the drivers with the Radeon drivers and all seems to be ok but I have not seen any big increase in speed in fact I ran the Vector Test file and it is the same speed as an G3 500.
