  1. VW 2008: When importing dwg objects the lines styles of the object are imported too, that's ok, but some existing lines in the drawing change to the imported dash style too. Is this a bug?
  2. Viewports originate from design layers. Is it possible to lock the viewport to a specific object in the design layer, so that moving this object makes the viewport move along with it? As it is, moving the object might make it dissapear from the viewport in the sheet layer and the crop needs editing to show the object again. E.g. you have a viewport i larger scale of a garage next to a house. For any reason you move the garage to another location, or rotate it. If the viewport were locked, the garage sheet would still be the same. Most probably this is possible...but how? Also...is it possible to show/hide the viewport crop in the design layer somehow? Once the viewport is created, it only shows in the sheet layers. Editing the crop can sometimes be easier to do in the design layer, as you can see what's outside of it.
  3. Robert and I have had some off-line mailing. I'm not sure I managed to get all the way trough the language barrier, but hopfully he understood most of it. Anyway he answered "I'll look into this". So have patience.....
  4. Dissapointing! I wonder what I am doing wrong. Whatever I tend to do, I get into problems with VW nowadays. And this with functions that should be basics in a cad program. Windows, stairs, walls, callout tools.....essential and basic things. What more will cross my path? Maybe it's because I have started to use more features of VW. Until now I've managed without the above, using just lines instead of walls, my own window symbols etc. - compelled to be compatible with AutoCad . Now that I tried using these things, my first reflection is "hm....I don't know how it's done...". But no, - now I'm confused. There are really shortcomings. How can miniCad have developed to VW13 and still have such lacks in the basics? I don't get it. Am I just negative and boring? Or friday night tired? Maybe both.
  5. This is basic, but I just can't find it...... When I need to resize the thickness of a wall, it will resize from the center line of the wall i.e. equally much left and right. Is there a way to resize the wall from the left or right sides instead? - lika a rectangle is resized from a fixed chosen handle. When drawing the wall there is a control line option/ center, right or left. If the thickness of the wall is resized in the OIB, by default the wall should be resized from the original control line chosen when the wall first was drawn - not necessarily the center line.
  6. Have you selected the right layer when hitting "fit wall to roof"? by checking "constrain wall to 3D" you get a choice of layers. If it's not the layer where the roof is, walls switch to ∆z=0.
  7. Ok thank you! I will try this. I have all files on a backup disk, in case conversions gets wild. Windows took a space walk when converting from 11 to 12, as I remember, so yes, I'll be cautious.
  8. Having used VW from old minicad 6 days, a lot of old files have become too old to be opened with current applications. Is there a clever way to regenerate all old files to 2008 level, without having to open/save/close etc file by file?
  9. I sent a file to Robert at NNA a couple of weeks ago. I will get back on the topic as soon as I get any feedback on the original issue. Guess they are quite busy these days... Robert, if you read this. ....a reminder!
  10. Hi Katie, great, but...do you know to what extent?
  11. I use two monitors 19" and 20"ws - actually used three some time ago and will go back to that setup again someday. It's like heaven! I have no problem at all with moving whatever windows, palettes and things belonging to VW around freely on both screens. They stay where I located them even after rebooting VW. Which of your dialogues are stubborn? I recently read a strange topic - sorry, can't remember where exactly - about a guy who physically had to switch his monitors - from left to right and v.v. - to get things to work on both screens. Try that first.
  12. I?m not too happy with the rectangle tool in 2008. It?s better than before, but could be improved. The sides are called ? width ? and ? height ?. If you rotate a rectangle 90?, the sides will still be called width and height. So what is width on the screen, will be called height in the object info box. The rotation angle is shown in the info box, but it?s still confusing. Furthermore the object handles will no longer correspond to what you see onscreen. I suggest the sides to be called ? a ?, ? b ??and so on for regular polygones. The handles on side a could be blue, while side b handles could be red (likewise the b side value in red) ? then handling the object in different angles would become a lot easier. Any comments/ further improvements before adding to wish posts?
  13. Hi Robert Do you mean the problem is fixed (SPnn) or as I understand it, no offset possible. If so, do I remember falsely if that used to be possible? Discussing windows in english is a nightmare to me because of all the terms defined differently in all dictionaries. Anyway, here we go: The option to offset the sashes is a must. Take the "bi-parting casement" window. The default setting in VW is centered saches. The sashes in such a window are as far as I know, always aligned with the jamb's edges, never centered, due to the hinges. So, if you agree, the default setting is wrong to begin with. Our climate calls for wall thicknesses of 300 mm. If I use the "use wall depth" option to benefit from trim options etc, the sashes will be almost 150 mm recessed from the facade, giving a hollow-eyed look. Therefore an option to offset sashes would not only be very useful, but absolutely necessary in this case. Of course this goes for all sash operations. I have to explain to my clients that what they see in the 3D renderings is not what they get, it's just as close as I get with VW. I'm sure there are ways to get around the problem, but that is not the subject... I beg and call for the offset option. What is the NNA response?

    SP2

May I say a few words? Every new relaese comes with bugs. In all applications, be it Adobe, Microsoft, Apple mac OS, AutoCad, Archicad or whatever. VW is not unique. As a user of many of these applications it's extremely frustrating not to know if I can continue my work when I chose to upgrade one of them. There is always a risk that hours and hours must be spent in identifying the origin of problems arising. I, myself, have a tendency to blame myself, because like most people I use only a fraction of all fantastic tools and features in Excel, Words and also VW. Therefore I always feel like a novice believing the answer must be around the corner somewhere, if I just learn a little more, spend some more time searching. Then techboard comes handy, when questions are answered. But .....when it comes to bugs, there is not much to learn from them for me. So i agree with Darrell. A greater transparency, a list - maybe just for logged in users - with all identified bugs listed, with identification date and a estimated fix date, would help a lot. We (users) wouldn't have to spend so much time finding answers in the forum. If it's on the list, it's in the pipeline. I had great help from NNA/bugsubmit just the other day. I asked for help with the "VWhelp"-feature. It didn't work on mac/safari. I had seen no information anywhere about any bug, so I was quite certain the problem was with me or my mac or something missing on the upgrade CD, some option I missed when ordering. Had there only been a list...... Luckily the bug fix was released the very same day I asked for help. All together I must say, that this techboard is great and I especially appreciate the involvment of Katie and other administrators. There are som funny guys out there too, not to be taken all too seriously....but I like them too somehow. So, please NNA, keep us informed.
  15. the callout tool obviously has lots of bugs - NNA has been notified. Let's hope for a quick fix. see this topic too: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=90976&page=1#Post90976

    CALLOUT TOOL

I was wrong about the marker editing too. That was just to edit the marker list and the listed markers - not to swich between them. Sorry about that. I just started using this tool (thanks to beanus topic) and wanted to switch marker. So - NNA - what is the problem here?

    CALLOUT TOOL

Well - I could change the value, but when pressing enter it switches back to the previous value. This must be a bug. On the other hand the stretch tool (interactive scaling) works - for the time beeing.

    CALLOUT TOOL

OK, I see what you mean. The text max width is still there, but you are right about the marker. I never really used callouts, so I'm not really fit to answer your question, but I found something that might help. Markers can be edited in "tools > options > edit marker list".

  20. How do I determine the position in plan of the casement in the window frame. By default the casement is centered between the jambs, but I want them to be aligned with the frame's right side. This used to be possible, but I can't find out how to do it any more...
  21. Oh! - answers...it took lots of viewers without any answer, so I thought nobody was interested. dcont, as I see it Petri knows the theory quite well. A stair must have an even rythm and flow when you descend it. That means all treads must have the same depth and rise throughout the whole stair, in the walking line - the line or curve described by Petri. Just a few mm difference can make quite an impact on the comfort of the stair. Therefore it is imperative to be able to set the tread depth accuratly, not only in straight flights, but also in curved parts of the stair. This is what I can't find any tool for. Robert, I will send you a file. Hope you can enlighten me. I just started up VW2008(SP1), but I'm still missing the possibility to set the tread depth under "flights and platforms /U-winder ". I mean the tread depth should influence the length of sides 1 or 2 by choice, not be a consequence of their lengths. Do you understand my poor English? In my drawing I have managed to get close to reality, but I don't think it's the right way to do it. Maybe designing 100% correct stairs is not the purpose of the stair tool, but if it's possible to achieve in the next SP - why not do it? so long guys!
  22. Trying to draw a single flight stair with a U-winder. The stair tool allows me to set the tread depth for the whole stair. But when assigning the number of risers in the U-section of the stair, the depth of the treads varies and changes with the number of risers, instead of resizeing the whole stair. The depth of all treads must be equal in the walking line, regardless straight or turned, so I'm a bit confused with the tool. Am I missing something or is this something that needs fixing in 2008?

    Batch export PDF

Using mac, I find two ways to create a pdf from a drawing. 1. export pdf 2. print / ...as pdf Is there a difference? If not, why two ways? I just updated to VW12.5.2, but still I cannot find a way to batch-print pdf files with the respective sheet names shown in the pdf file name. I have to go back on all files and rename them before issuing. Serial numbers is not good enough. Imagine a VW file with 26 different sheets, everyone representing a specific drawing. These sheets are named with the respecive drawing number. Now, batch printing is extremely useful. But 26 pdf files with a common prefix and a serial number added is just of no help. - especially if not all sheets have been selected for printing. A sheet might get a different number at different printing occasions. Serial numbers might be useful too, but as an option. Now - am I missing something, or asking for too much?
  24. OK BG. I might have to correct myself. There are two more tools I've failed to notice. I've just been so happy with the rectagon tool and never felt the need for another tool, so i never saw and never tried "rectangle 2 and rectangle 3" - quite similar tools, probably new VW features. Anyway - the rectagon has the advantage that you get the area of the rectangle. You can also lock the area, so that if you change sid A, side B will change accordingly to preserve the area.
  25. I have the tool you need - as a plug-in I found on http://www.vectordepot.com/PlugIns1.shtml - I believe... It's called "rectagon" and gives you the possibility to edit a and b sides of a rotated rectangle, if it is drawn by the tool from start. It's not perfect, because it only works from the center line, but it's still extremely useful. Why NNA does not provide it is a mystery! It has been a while since I found it, but it is out there somewhere. Sorry I can't help you more, but just knowing it is there might be encouraging. Let us know what you find!
