  1. Where is the "Create Gable End Walls" checkbox located?
  2. Thanks guys. This is a good work around. Much easier and better results than my solution. Larry
  3. I know I can ungroup a roof and edit solids and add a roof slab and line them all up, but it takes a long time. There are many houses with dutch hip roofs. Has anyone found a good way to do this? Thanks - Larry
  4. Another one on this topic. I would like to be able to print my nice color renderings in dithered b/w scale. Remember what a great print the early laserwriters would make out of a color print. With this feature the printed copies would look nice. Right now the color version looks great but the copy of the drawing looks like black blobs.
  5. As I perfect the way I like my classes, layers, views, symbols, etc. I would like to be able to save the drawing template without any drawing information. Thanks - Larry
  6. I like to work in many bright colors to keep track of my classes as I draw. I still like to print my drawings in color but I don't want all the weird bright colors I'm using on a hand full of layer to print in color. I would like to have a check box on the layers menu to constrain that class to print in black even when I'm printing the drawing in color. Thanks - Larry
  7. Andrew, The viewports I have lost after doing lots of editing on the design layer were really lost. I have a view that turns on all classes on before I go to a sheet layer. One thing that might be important. I don't remember ever losting a viewport that has had anotation drawn on it. The ones I have lost are viewports that are just views of a floor plan or something without added information. Losing the viewports hasn't lost data. Also after I have lost the viewport it still remembers the number. So I might have 10 viewports on my drawing but if I make a new one it is viewport 19 or whatever. Hope that helps. Larry
  8. quote: Originally posted by alanmac: you want your classes in various colours on the screen when working you then want to print some of them in black rather than their assigned colour Yes exactly. Selecting the B&W only doesn't change textures to B&W, they still show in color. If you've added anything with fill, say on an elevation it becomes white and really sticks out. If the B&W option would show "gray scales" it would be much better. The way it is now you can print in color and then have the copy center copy the drawing in B&W and you do get gray scales with out losing information. Here's an example, I have different kinds of dimensions that are important to show on different views but sometimes they all show together. It is really hard to remember to change to the right class when going back and forth so I have all of them in a different colors. When I print in color I want all of them to be black even on a drawing that has other items in color. So my question is, how do I set my three classes of dimensions to always print in black without changing my class colors to black and still printing my drawings in color? Larry
  9. Is their a way to tell VW 11 to print certain class in black even through they are in color? I really like the results of printing in color and don't like the results of turning off all the color. I have been using class color for feed back when I'm working but I don't want all the weird colors printing. Thanks, Larry iMac 17" G4 800 1gig with latest software versions
  10. The file goes into no response mode. About 80% of the menus are grayed out, including save and quit. The OIP will not show any data in the shape mode, the window is completely blank. The ability to select an object still works showing the handles. To keep from losing any data I wait until the auto save dialog comes up and click yes. Then to fix the problem I have to force quit VW and restart. After that everything works and all my data is safe. This has happened to me on more than one drawing file. About 3 times over the last two months. I don't know how do duplicate. I upgraded from 512k to 1 gig of memory but it has now happened with the extra memory. 11. I am about to upgrade memory in my iMac and have been studying up on how OSX handles memory. As I understand we should never get an "out of memory" error message. Unix will automatically allocate RAM until it runs out then allocate VM to the disk and page memory. Under finder select the GO menu to Utilities Folder and find Activity Monitor. This will show you your systems memory usage and VM allocation. If we run out of memory we should see a big slow down but not an error message. Right??? Wrong??? Katie??? Larry
  12. Buy the G5 and just shuffle all the other equipment down a notch. Last person in line gets the oldest machine, first person in line gets a big smile. =-)
  13. Katie, The file I'm having problems with is approaching 10 mbytes. Doesn't sound that big. What is the suggested method for cleaning up a file that may be corrupted. Save as new copy, export to version 10 and back, or what do you suggest? Larry
  14. I'm running 10.3.5 with 11.0.1 iMac 17" 800 512ram. I'm starting to wonder if I have enough ram. Katie what is you suggested memory for this configuration? Thanks - Larry
  15. I've gotten that message several times. No crash was involved just the message.

If you turn all the class off in the design layer the viewport is from, you will not see any items in the viewport on the sheet. This seems like a bug. I would like to have a pref. option to show all classes on sheet layers. Best way to check is turn all class on then check the sheet. Peter, That "list of viewports" dialog would be really helpful. The viewports don't have names but just being able to see that the number still exists in the file and the "from location and to location" would be valuable. BTW - I can't believe Ed and I are the only ones losing viewports. Larry
  17. I'm experiencing the same problem. It seems they go away if you do an extensive amount of editing on the design layer, when you go back to the sheet it's blank. I've had it happen several times. Larry iMac G4 800 17" OSX 10.3.5 VW 11.0.1

Try using the Render Bitmap tool to make a rendered elevation as a bitmap and send it to the back, behind your hidden-line elevation. If you have RenderWorks 11, try this with the "color wash" setting on the Artistic RenderWorks mode (I especially like this one...) I love this idea. It makes great looking elevations that can be easily annotated. How do you get them on a sheet? I can't get them to show up using a viewport. I tried coping the bitmap to a new layer and making a viewport but nothing shows up in the viewport. I tried pasting direcly on the sheet and the bitmap is about the size of Texas. 19. A command that will make everything visable on a sheet even if the class is not visable. If this command is on I don't have to keep going back to the design and turning on class to print info on a sheet. Thanks - Larry
  20. You guys are all right! Thanks for not giving up on me. I finally see what you're doing. Leave the original design layer alone and only change all the viewports on all sheet required. If I need to make any edits do them on the design layer, update the viewport, mirror the new viewport, and print the sheet. Geez... That wasn't so hard was it??? Thanks - I do appreciate the help. Larry
  21. OK maybe I'm not saying this correctly. I want my design layer mirrored. It is the only way to get my floor plan reversed. If I only mirror my viewports my floor plan, foundation plan, electrical plan, etc are all showing the original NOT reversed plan #1. How do I get to the reversed plan #2 if I don't mirror the design layer? I'm really trying here. If I'm just blind to this solution please explain it to me differently. Thanks, Larry
  22. But reversing the entire house plan is my goal. I have a house #1 with 7 sheets completed and now I want a second house #2 that has all 7 sheets but this house is the reverse plan of the first house. After doing the mirror to reverse the original house plan I have a perfect new floor plan #2 that is reversed left to right of my original. Now when I go to my elevations sheet and look at the left elevation all of my annotation on that viewport is for my right elevation. So I cut and paste my information from the right viewport to the left viewport. Then I still have to select the dimensions only, mirror them, and line them up with the building again. Then do the same from the left viewport to the right. It all finally works out ok. But my question is... is their an easier more efficient way? It seem like a lot of work. Thanks for the help, Larry
  23. Robert, I am reversing a complete floor plan model. I have 7 sheets with drawing information thru viewports from the design layer. When I mirror the design layer model everything does mirror. What comes out messed up is the detail elevation views of left and right. Some of the informations has to be cut and pasted from the left view to the right view. Some of the information must be mirrored again to make it correctly fit the drawing. Do you ever take a plan that you have completed and reverse it to create a new plan? What methodology do you use to draw the elevations that will mirror correctly creating the new reversed plan? Thanks, Larry
  24. I have an assignment to reverse a plan drawing. I found that my elevations are the only problem. I've tried two methods. One - putting each plan 2D annotation on a separate class on the 3D design layer in front, etc orientation. Turn all classes on, select all, do the mirror. The left and right plan are fine except all the annotation must be mirrored again then relocated to the correct position. Two (which I like drawing better) - annotate the plan view port on the print sheet. When the model is mirrored and the veiw ports are updated the dimensions are correct but everything else is reversed. After selecting everything but the dimensions, doing a mirror, then I have to cut and paste this information from right to left and visa versa. Am I missing something simple here that would make this easier. Thanks, Larry
  25. I really agree. I always set a view that turns all the classes on so I can hit it when I'm printing sheets. I wasted several sheets of paper with missing items until I discovered that. Larry
