  1. Ok, the title block is a 2d symbol before it gets inserted into a border. I'm wondering if there is a way to have Marionette control the opacity/transparency of select objects within the symbol thereby imparting an On Off function. But perhaps, the class option is the path of least resistance.... Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  2. I'm creating a titleblock. I'd like to have the ability to control the visibility of preliminary stamps, seal, and other information via a checkbox in the Object Info Palette, or perhaps via a project setting. I guess I can do this with separate classes for each object but would I prefer to keep the number of classes within a project to a minimum. Is there any way to accomplish this? Do I have to do it via marionette? If so, how to I attach a marionette routine to an existing graphic? Thanks beforehand, Rudy Beuc
  3. Within VectorWorks, how is font height measured? Is it capitalization height, capitalization + ascender, or ascender+ capitalization + ascender? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  4. Ok, way after beer:30. After a lot of hit and miss, trial and error, drilling down, ect...., it seems that one of the site modifiers became corrupt or whatever. Maybe during the project upgrade from 2021 to 2022. After erasing the offending modifier, everything seems to work as intended. Why, I don't know.. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  5. I'm having a problem. I have a site model. It has modifiers attached to it defining roads, sidewalks, new contours, ect... When I go and try to change the class it sits on, the material, or texture, defining the surface gets changed. Why is this happening? There is no texture or material assigned to that class. Please see attached video. Thanks, Rudy Beuc 2021-09-30 23-11-24.mp4
  6. Zoomer, I was hoping to translate a project and see that everything came over halfway OK, and learn from it. Not much came over OK. I was wondering if there was something I may have missed. Looks like Revit projects can't be directly imported into VW. Maybe it has to be done in pieces, I don't know. It wasn't a large project, It was a house. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  7. Ok, I'm a single person frim and I do all my own drafting. I'm working in Revit and in the process of migrating to VW. It's primarily do to subscription only licensing choices provided by a certain software vendor, but that's another issue. I also know of some other firms who are looking for alternative due to the same issue. But anyway.... I need to learn and establish workflows, customization, and so forth. So I think, "Ok, I've got a blank spot in my schedule, lets try this out". This way I'll learn stuff, get some customization done, and move forward. Besides, it would be great to be able to open up my past work in the current software. Yesterday afternoon I tried to convert a copy of a recent project. My workstation ran all night. Well, the results are not as expected. I don't think I can use any of it to move forward. Nothing like it seemed in all the videos I've seen so far. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  8. Just tried to convert a whole Revit project file. Did not come out as expected. Anybody else try this? Any tips? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  9. Open up the named standards sta file. it opens up as a worksheet and the pen colors appear as a number. I'm trying to create template files for my office. I'm migrating from Revit and trying to get a handle on VW customization and workflows. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  10. Ok messing with this and trying to create my own Named standards for classes and layers. And I'm doing this in a worksheet environment now. What is the vectorworks "Pen Color" number for black? 257? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  11. I'm in the process of migrating from Revit. Currently I'm trying to figure out class naming standards and so forth. I've found the standards sub folder within the VectorWorks program folders and libraries using the Windows file browser. However, when I go to my resource browser and look for the standards folder there, no luck. ?? using the windows file browser I've opened up the ClassNameStds.sta folder and am able to peruse it's contents. I think I want to create another column for my own standard. Or maybe copy this file and just change the lineweights and colors. What exactly is an *.STA file, how is a new one made, and how does it get connected with the "Standard Naming" command? What's going on under the hood? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  12. So yes, I have a lot of fonts installed on my computer. I find the drop down menu scrolling behavior troublesome. I can't access any of my font styles beyond those with C as the first letter. I have dual screens. Attached are videos and screenshots which I hope communicate my problem adequately. Is there some setting on my end that I can adjust to resolve this? Thanks, Rudy Beuc VW Main Screen.mp4 MS Word Font Dialogue.mp4 VW Secondary Screen.mp4
  13. Or perhaps, be able to merge walls of different styles to act as a single unit? You could have your specific partition types as the core, and be able to tag it in plan as you would want to, while then being able to apply (wall finish objects maybe?) different finishes of correct widths. Tile, wood paneling, reveals, trim, ect... This workflow has the possibility of keeping Interior designers focused on finishes and preventing them from changing the partition type. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  14. I wish there were more camera match workflow options than the current 3 point perspective with control lines. I wish there was a way to place a camera in the spot where I took a photo, lock the renderworks camera lens focal length to the one I knew the photo was shot with, place the photon in the background of the camera view while in wireframe, and then be able to adjust the camera position to match up with the background photo. I also wish there was a camera match option that used known points in space to align the renderworks camera. Currently I'm working on a large unbuilt suburban site. There is one building on a part of the site with which I have been able to use the camera match object successfully. Having these other options would allow me to line up photos for decent before and after views. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  15. My recent attempt resulted in absolute failure. I couldn't even see any of my model in the viewport. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  16. <<Posted 8 hours ago On 8/6/2021 at 1:33 PM, rudybeuc@gmail.com said: I just need to tweak my position and when the camera is looking. When you're in the activated Camera, have you tried using the Walkthrough tool to navigate and tweak your view? The activated Camera will "follow" any changes you make with this tool. You can also utilize the third mode of the Translate View tool to fine tune the amount of perspective.>> How do I get my original photo to appear in the background so I can get a decent match? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  17. <<Hello, This begs the question of why you're not using the Camera Match feature in Vectorworks? There is also a great movie about how to use it here.>> I am aware of that video and used it to help set up a camera match for a view with which I had and existing building to align the guidelines. Attaches is the view where I was successfully able to use the camera match tool. As stated in the post, with this view, "I do not have a strong, boxy, existing built object with which to get a good 3 point perspective". with the photo I'm trying to match. There are no strictly vertical, horizontal in x direction or horizontal in y, to align guidelines. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  18. So I've been floundering with this task for awhile now. I need a workflow where I can match a photo of an existing site with a site modeled in Vectorworks. I've got a situation where I want to achieve a camera match, but I do not have a strong, boxy, existing built object with which to get a good 3 point perspective. I'm trying to get a photo as a background for use in a renderworks camera, and have transparent landscape objects, so I can adjust the camera and get a reasonable match. I know my approximate camera position relative to the site and I know what the lens focal length is. I just need to tweak my position and when the camera is looking. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  19. I wish I could flip from dark to light background within a specific window tab. I'm doing overlays and referencing files. Flipping the background makes certain things easier to see from time to time...
  20. So, just had the same problem. When I created the modifier when all layers in show, snap, modify mode however, there was no problem. Did you work in this mode? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  21. So I'm trying to figure out how to lay out my site contours at true sea level while my first floor reads as 0'-0" for my building documents. In other BIM software I can achieve this by utilizing different coordinate systems and having my dimension styles reference the system desired. How do I accomplish this in VectorWorks? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  22. How does one get the door leaf parts to scale independently? That is, How do you get the panels to scale while the rails and stiles maintain their appropriate dimensions? Thanks, Rudy Beuc
  23. Thanks for this. I'll be reading through it a few times and have bookmarked it. I'm a longtime Autodesk user moving to VW and need all the help I can get. The videos aren't the best format for me and I hope you write a book on Vectorworks customization. Thanks, Rudy Beuc
