  1. If you edit the symbol in the RB then all instances of that symbol in the drawing will be changed as well. This is how it is supposed to work but there was a bug with this in version 10 but I presume it works fine in 11. Let me know how you go with it.
  2. You have to edit the symbol used for the trees in the Resource Browser, editing the individual symbol in the drawing has no effect.
  3. Do you mean the line weight of the plant symbol ? [ 11-04-2004, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: Viper x ]

This is little help to you at present ( as was the same for me in the early days of 10) though I admit, thankfully through Robert, Katie and others we can get some feedback on the problems we are having, without this help board I can say for definate that I would have jumped off VW on more than one occassion. Something I think should be instigated is a sticky topic in each forum that lists all the bugs as they are found so that people don't have to go through the agony each time of having problems, wasting hours trying to fix it only to later find out it was an already indentified bug. The topic should also list any work arounds available at the same time and a time frame for when the bug is likely to be fixed. This would help enormously. For example the plant width setting bug you have just stumbled across should not have to be found over and over by others, if we had a sticky topic of "known bugs" then when we encountered problems we can first look there and save everyone a lot of angst. Is this possible please Robert ?
  5. I agree with tvetter Kevin, stick at it it will be worth it, although I must say I too was very when I was having to not only learn a new program but at the same time having to overcome bugs in the software, this was very frustrating. I am the first to acknowledge that I am no expert at CAD programs but it can be disheartening when one has to combat both bugs and a long learning curve. Still like tvetter says once you get vectorworks working properly it is a joy and definately worth the effort. ps. Again though I must say reading some of your problems, particularly with the place plant tool ( which is the most important function for me), my upgrading to 11 is getting put back by the day

There are still things that drive me crazy, like having to select plants from symbol list instead of a dialogue box of plant names - Robert, I know I am not the only one saying this, But all in all, it is better. 11.1 is as stable. Major advancements - hmmmm, I would say it depends on your practice. I do more site planning than big, detailed planting plans. Imports from 10 to 11 have been ok. Definitely upgrade. Thanks
  7. Thanks archoncad, I look forward to getting into Viewports when I jump into 11
  8. Hi tvetter, How have you found landmark in VW11 ? 1. Has it improved from 10 ? 2. Above all is it stable ? 3. Is there any major advancements over version 10 ? 4. Have you imported files created in 10 ( with hundreds of plants ) sucessfully into 11 without any problems. 5. Would you confidently recommend upgrading to VW11 landmark from 10 ?
  9. Are you customising the plants once in the drawing ? If so try it with plants untouched from the "define plant" settings. Does that make any difference ? [ 11-01-2004, 07:18 PM: Message edited by: Viper x ]
  10. quote: Originally posted by alanmac: Viper x As the one I suggested is free, you are not spending the hundreds Adobe costs, and if it works okay, it's a result. If not you've cost yourself about ?8 in UK money. My bureau which mainly prints from Autocad files had no problems. I never changed a setting from the install default and it was fine. Thanks, I may well give it a try, the print shop has become good at printing my drawings through the viewer now (but it costs more as he has to mess around with the file) so I am loath to jump into another form of printing, but I will give it a try.
  11. Hi Kevin R, I feel your frustration but try to stick with it because when you get landmark working smoothly it is terrific. ps. having said that I am watching with interest as I am thinking of upgrading to 11 shortly but only if landmark has improved and is running well and bug free. 12. archoncad, thanks for the graphic. I have not read much on viewports but does not sheets already essentially do the same things ? Like saving a different views and classes, layers turned on or off. What is the major difference between sheets and viewports. thanks Viper x
  13. My goodness one gets conflicting messages at times. I talked to my print shop and he said a number of other people on vw are now sending jobs as pdf for printing but he stressed ONLY use Acrobat as they have had lots of problems with other cheap versions of pdf's
  14. Hi Chris, I am thinking of upgrading shortly but I am nervous about jumping off a stable 10.5 into the unknown of 11 especially as there seems to be a number of worrying issues with 11 on this forum at the moment, especially with such a fundamental as speed. After, as a novice being burnt badly whilst going through the sometimes very frustrating jorurney of 10 from the day it was released until it became stable I am naturally full of when considering leaving 10 behind !
  15. I am thinking of upgrading to VW11 from 10 but I am cautious about leaving what has become pretty stable version of landmark in 10.5 and into the unknown of VW11 landmark. For those who have been working with landmark 11 for awhile now how is it performing, especially the place plant tool, is it stable ? Thanks Viper x
  16. I had to get the drawing out so in the end I could still not find these stray plants which is a bit as they are listed in the worksheet, I will have to issue them as an error in a few days. I will try your idea JB, the plants are somewhere in the drawing, but there is hundreds of plants placed so it is not easy.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Kevin R: Hey all, I'm a new user of Landmark 11 and thought I'd add my two cents. I logged on to see if there was any discussion pertaining to any other machines freezing up. I'm 30 days in, and may be returning the package. Despite a GeForce 5200 card and over a gig of ram (on windows) once around 10 plants with customized info are in my designs, to even activate the 2d selection tool is a 30 second wait. Then, to select something is another 30 seconds. Am I missing something? At the moment, as I learn the program, I find it to be unuseable by any standard. My last hope: Upon upgrading my ram, is there anything I should have done to my machine to utilize it fully? It's made no difference, and yes, I did enable it within Vectorworks prefs. It can't always run this slowly. It wouldn't work for anyone. Please help! Hi Kevin, have you only worked in version 11 ? I am using 10.5 and whilst landmark has had bugs along the way and is still clumsy at times I have no problem placing hundreds of plants and still do not have hang time using tools or working around the drawing. (apart from the very big memory leak problems I have at the moment ! ) I have not used VW11 so I can not say how the landmark has been performing, but I am interested in your experiences as I am thinking of upgrading soon I run 10.5 with hundreds of plants in a drawing with half the RAM you have and the same gforce card so I don't think this is the problem. 18. Thanks Peter, yes I mean saved sheets. Going through the process of needing to split a large drawing in 3 sections using masking and then printing them individually is what has brought me to saved sheets. Unfortunately I ran out of time and had to save the 3 drawings as individual files before I could practice using saved sheets, this is fine but after I had done a test print (before I printed a tender set of 50 A1 drawings)I had to make some additions which meant I had to visit the base plan of each of the 3 saved drawings, As I read it if I had of saved the 3 drawings with their masking as saved sheets I could then just have made the required changes to the master drawing and the sheets would have updated as well. That is correct is it not ? This is a great feature and something I will now practice and learn. So before I get stuck into using saved sheets there is no quirks I should be aware of ? thanks Viper x
  19. I am about to explore the use of sheets, before I do is there any tips and traps for the newby. The first thing I have a question about is : If I have the "master" drawing and then I create a sheet which has some different elements to it and I then go back and add someting to the master drawing it will also update this new detail on the sheet drawing as well, is this correct ? Any tricks or tips to using sheets please? thanks Viper x on 10.5
  20. I also have it set to 20 undo I also have no idea what is causing it, but I am not alone by the look of other posts on the forums. I now have to shut down and reboot every half hour as it all grinds to a halt. Thanks for the suggestion
  21. Yes when I have task manager open I can see when I begin a session with VW it logs at about: 15,000K and then it steadily rises (even if I am doing nothing) up to 420,000K When it gets up to this the program slows down until it crashes. Now I have to watch the task manager and when it starts to climb too high I reboot VW. This is very annoying. I don't have norton running and all other programs are turned off. Why all this leakage ? 22. Possibly, so any ideas how to track them down, the drawing has many hundreds of plants on the drawing ?
  23. I have some stray plants somewhere in the drawing as they are being counted in the worksheet but I am having trouble finding them. Is there a clever trick to locating the symbols ? I am trying to do it with custom selection but I am struggling. What is the correct search criteria ? Any ideas please, it is in 10.5 ? Thanks Viper x
  24. I am not going to touch SP2 as it stands. I am finding 10.5 seriously unstable as it is, especially with the massive memory leakage, I can not afford to compound that with SP2
  25. At the one print shop I know that will bother to make the effort and print VW drawings, they came out a treat. When the two worlds meet and this software works smoothly and I understand what I am doing, it is is so, so
