  1. Hi Dave; Thank you for following up on this bug. It is exciting to see a possible solution in sight. I will try your suggestion on my own file and see what happens. I also appreciate your sharing the technical aspects of the problem/solution. While I do not understand much of what you are saying, it is none the less interesting and reassuring that there is a defined problem that can be traced.
  2. This is a great idea that would save all of us hours/days of wasted time and frustration.
  3. Dave; I am puzzled by your comments to Hunter. It has been my understanding, from what you and Katie have been saying, that the reason I cannot get a finished animation is because of a bug within VW or Quicktime or a combination of the two. Your comments to Hunter make it sound like the problem is user fixable. Is this a universal problem caused by a bug or is Hunter's problem different from mine?
  4. Katie, I have had this problem as well. Arrowheads dissapear or sometimes lines that should not have arrows suddenly appear with arrows. What does the 8 selection handle preference do?
  5. Yes Katie, I am using VW9.5.3, so it is a problem with this version as well. Thank you for keeping us posted on the progress of this situation.
  6. Hunter: As Katie is indicating, their engineers are working on it. Katie: Can you offer any encouragement? Do the engineers have any idea of what may be causing this? My own deadline for making my animated presentation to my client is rapidly approaching. As of now I cannot make that annimation due to this bug.
  7. I have the same problem. I tried to animate 20 different times using different settings but the results were the same. At around 200 or so frames, it would freeze. I even bought more memory bringing me to 1024MB, but no change. Katie, is there any hope in getting this problem fixed?
  8. I looked around the Apple website and found the "Combo" updater. Not quite sure what it is or why it exists, but I downloaded it and it installed fine.
  9. Hi Katie; What is a "Combo" updater? I updated using software update which is an automatic process. Where do I find this Combo?
  10. How do I edit a keynote that is already generated? I did what I thought was logical and it did not work. 1. I created a set of keynotes in the Keynote Manager. I then used the Create Notes command to create the notes on the sheet. 2. I wanted to edit the content of one of the keynotes. I went to Keynote Manager and selected the note. With the Edit button I edited the note and it shows in Keynote Manager the way that I want it. 3. On my sheet I then delete the previously created set of notes, (the edit did not hot-link). I then created a new set of notes using the Create Note command as I had done originally. 4. The new set of notes on the sheet do not reflect the change made in Keynote Manager. When I go to Keynote Manager, my change is there as expected but it does not transfer to the created notes on the sheet.
  11. Thanks guys for your input. NNA has my file and says that they are working on a solution. I find it hard to believe that it would be memory related as I am operating under OS10 with 1024MB of memory. As far as light sources, I am using only 1 plus ambient. I hope NNA finds a solution soon.
  12. Hi Katie; Thanks for the quick response. So that I am clear, the default entry box shows "0.0". Which example would indicate 90 degrees? 1. 90.0 2. 0.90
  13. I cannot figure out how to use the Hidden Line Smoothing Angle plug-in from the Vectordepot site. I have tried various degree settings and they seem to produce all-or-nothing results. 1. When do you use this. Is it like a preference that you set before doing a hidden line rendering operation? 2. What is the range of degrees? I would expect that the bottom of the range would produce no lines and the top of the range would produce hundreds of lines. Is it 0 to 90 degrees? 3. What units are used? The default opening display is 0.0. Are 1.0 or 25.5 valid entries? Do I need to add some sort of units? Thank you in advance to anyone who can shed light on this. VWA9.5.3, OS10.2.3
  14. Hi Katie; I've been out of town. In answer to your question, I am using OS10.2.3. I am not sure that my specific issue/question is being addressed. Using VW8.5.3 under OS9.2.2, no complaint. Using VW9.5.3 under OS9.2.2, no complaint. Using VW9.5.3 under OS10.2.3, there is a problem. The problem is that the program slows down over time. It gets so slow that I have to quit and relaunch. As an example, if I click on an object to select it. It will take as long as 3 or 4 seconds for that object to show it's handles and become selected. Therefore it can take 20 seconds to simply select 5 separate objects.
  15. Workspace editor, Tools tab, AEC>Number Stamp. I am using VWA9.5.3. I just looked it up and that is where I found it.
  16. I think what Karl is talking about is dimension lines that are perpendicular. This happens to me all the time. When I try to dimension a corner of a wall, the first set of dimensions goes down fine. Then when I run the dimension string in the perpendicular direction the lines snap to the first line's end point. That end point is not the corner of the wall. It is a point in space that is away from the corner. Perhaps I just don't understand the cursor cues. Perhaps NNA can elaborate on this.
  17. This issue of speed has appeared in a number of posts. When I was reading them at the time i was using OS9 and did not pay much attention. Now that I am using OS10 and VW9.5.3, I too experience the slowness. It gets to a point where I have to quit VW and relaunch. This is a temporary fix as the program continues to slow down. i do not think this is isolated to Jim's particular file. My experience of switching to OS10 has been positive except for using Vectorworks under OS10. Using OS10 has allowed me the use of OS10 native applications that cannot run under OS9. The downside is that VW is slower under OS10. The slowness only gets worse until it is intolerable. I cannot imagine that memory is an issue as I have 1GB of RAM. 18. Hi Irving; I decided to try and setup my powerbook to run on Gimp Print last night. I have an HP 455CA on a Jetdirect print server. I held down the test button like Kurt said and the plotter spit out the configuration sheet. It showed the IP address. It took a couple of tries. I seemed to have sucess when I release the button once both lights werer lit after about 10 seconds. I downloaded Gimp and Ghost, went to Print Center and set up the new printer configuration per the readme file. It worked perfect. The powerbook sent the print file over Airport, through a Linksys router, through Ethernet, to the Print Server. I did notice a difference in the Page Setup. There is no obvious Arch D selection under the latest version of Gimp Print. The only listing is Arch D transverse. This choice gave me a sheet that was too short. If you look through the list, you will see 24 x 36. Go to this and there appears a submenu with Arch D. I selected this and the plotter printed as expected. Good luck. PS: I initially tried to install the PPD from the HP Rip. It setup fine but did not print. You have to select the PPD that comes with Gimp Print. It will say something like 455CA Gimp Print + Cups.
  19. For months I have been trying to get a Final Renderworks animation to work. Every time it freezes or quits. A couple of times I even got a "One or more operations were aborted due to lack of memory, increase partition size". This is while under OSX where you cannot assign partition sizes! The program will happily render up to around 200 frames and then freeze. I then have to force quit. After upgrading to OS10.2.4 it now sometimes quits the program. It will generate wireframe and Open GL animations just fine. It is when I switch to Final Renderworks that it freezes. I have tried rendering with NURBS both on and off. If anyone has an ideas, I sure would appreciate it. VW9.5.3, OS10.2.4, 1ghz Powerbook with 1gig of RAM.
  20. Thanks Katie. There is another post refering to a limit to the number of notes that the database will hold. Can you please tell me the following: 1. Do Keynotes and Notes use the same database? 2. How many notes can Keynotes hold? 3. How many notes can Notes hold?
  21. Katie or Robert; Is this true? Does VW limit a note to a certain number of lines or characters? Before I invest my time into this part of the progam, I need to know what I am getting into.
  22. Thanks for the info Kurt. How did you determine that the font was corrupted?
  23. Hi Irving; First the disclaimer. I am an architect, not an IT guy. I am no expert here, but I did get Gimp Print to work. I am running a router by Linksys. I have it set up a a DHCP router so that it assigns IP addresses dynamically. As I understand it, when a computer logs on to the network, the router assigns it an address. You of course have to set up each computer's TCP/IP to receive dynamic addresses. Since I never turn off the print server, I assume that it will hold on to the address that is assigned to it. To find that address I loged onto the router and pulled up the client address table that it generates. In that table I was able to see the address assigned to the print server. I have been running Gimp Print for about two months and so far so good.
  24. Using the Note Manager in VW9.5.3, OS10.2.3, it will not accept a note that is longer than 4 lines. Is this normal?!
