  1. Thanks Katie. I suspected as much. I regularly run Cocktail to fix permissions and run the cron scripts for general maintenance so that wasn't the problem. I may have changed the name as I have several versions of VW on my machine at any one time (8.5.2, 9.5.3 and now 10.1) and the two latest icons look virtually identical on the dock. So it is my error in all likelyhood, I wish that OS10 was more tolerant of the user, but Unix is Unix. I have had to change the ownership several times in the past on a file to get things to work properly. I may try changing the ownership from System to myself, this worked with another update I had trouble with from another vendor. I suspect I will be reinstalling and hopefully I won't be back for a followup. Thanks again;
  2. On the two computers I have so far updated (or more correctly attempted to update) I have not had good success. On my at work system, a Mac G4 500 OS10.2.6, with VW Architect installed I tried several times to update and it never actually installed the change. I ended up doing a clean install of VW this time with Mechanical and then ran the updater and it took the first time. On my home machine a Mac G4 Dual 867 MDD, OS 10.2.6 I also have Architect installed and am unable to get the update to take. It runs, appears to install a few things and then finishes with the message that you should update the name of the application directory (a decidedly MSW statement). So does the update work with Architect? I have serial numbers to try Standard, Architect and Mechanical. I would rather not reinstall (even though it is easy) but what I use at home is Architect and would rather not reinstall it just to find that the updater doesn't actually work with Architect. Many thanks; [ 05-24-2003, 06:00 PM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  3. I have noticed this alot more in V10 than in 9.5.3, but in any case it would be really nice if new dimensions didn't snap to dimension lines of dimensions already laid down. I often get spurious measurements as a result of this, its frustrating and I am constantly having to go delete and redo.
  4. Since updating to 10.2.4, my Vectorworks has crashed and in general has alot of lag. When I use the nudge command the program seems to hang for 20 seconds or so. Very frustrating. It just crashed when trying to print a number of 3D rendered objects.

  6. Katie: This is new behavior. I will check it on my home machine later today which is a MDD 867 machine. I will also check on several of the other work machines I have as several people are on vacation. This occurs with text and dimensions as well. Thanks for the quick response. 7. I upgraded to 10.2.3. I have VW9.5.3 final. Using a 500mhz G4 with 16mb ATI video card. I have the following issues: With preferences set to no fill behind text, you still get fill behind text. When using polyline 2D reshape tool, and drag a box to grab several points, the box will remain even after selecting eslewhere. You have to select a new object to get it deselected. I just checked and on the VW 10.0.0 evaluation copy I have the same thing occuring. Also, and this is likely not a 10.2.3 issue, when creating polyline from truetype the polyline is a very poor duplication of the font. [ 12-23-2002, 12:01 PM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  8. Thanks, we look forward to its availability. By the way, the new added 3D capability and igs export kept VW in our department. We were strongly considering replacing it (over much objection) until those tools were added. Many thanks.
  9. Given that VW 9.5.3 is likely the last of VW 9 versions, will VW10 include the ability to open via import IGS drawings? At the moment we are testing Ashlars Xenon and that is one of the really great features we use in our work. Our engineers use Pro E exclusively and being able to give them a master model in IGS would help us greatly. I am an Industrial Designer and we have 27 seats of VW (not all are in use at this time), it would great if there were more 3D modelling tools that catered to our industry. We greatly prefer VW to any of the other products we have tested for our group. VW is our standard drafting tool and now that it can export IGS files we can create in 3D and then have parts cut or created by our Rapid Prototyping group in the model shop. ThanksKarl Mead
  10. Thanks for the speedy turn around to allow us early adopters to continue to use VW succesfully. Thumbs up for the extra work!
  11. Yes, thanks for an incredible upgrade. The acid test for me will be sending a file down to our model shop to get an SLA, FDM, or get a form cut on the multi axis mill. I had been telling my co-workers that something was coming and to get it as part of a general upgrade gratis is incredible. Thanks NNA! I hope these tools will allow us to keep VW as our standard package (we have been looking at Xenon from Ashlar as our standard) as we arre moving to more and more fully 3D work and this has been our big limitation with VW. Great job. Karl MeadSteelcase NA
  12. First, thanks for the great upgrade to allow me to create 3D surfaces and the ability to export them in IGS format. Now if I could only import IGS so I could get stuff from the engineers ProE data. We are also using Xenon which (is a much more expensive package) does have this facility (as does Rhino). It would be really great if VW would integrate this level of 3D ability as we much prefer the working environment of VW.ThanksKarl Mead
  13. I have just installed VW 9.5 and with what little I have seen it seems to work fine except for one minor little issue. Well for me its not a minor issue. I use a Graphire Tablet with mouse and pen. I primarily use the mouse. With my old VW 9.1 and previous versions, it would behave as a mouse does. With this version it will only behave like a pen in absolute 1:1 mode to the screen. (My screen is a 22" Apple Cinema Display running on a G4 550, OS 9.1, 16 Mb ATI graphics card, 768mb RAM). This starts the moment the VW application begins to launch and doesn't occur if I leave the VW workspace by clicking on another App or the Finder. Sadly this is untenable and makes the software (VW) unusuable. The Wacom driver is 4.60-6, and I have set the mouse acceleration to Max and the tracking speed to Fast (like a rabbit). All to no avail in the VW workspace, the moment I launch another program or click into the Finder the mouse behaves as it should. With things as they are, I cannot access several of the menus in VW as the mouse needs to run over the pen holder at the top center rendering View, Pallettes, Window and Help unreachable. Not to mention the speed/acceleration needed on a screen of this size. When I first started the software (VW9.5) I set up my preferred defaults and then chose the Tablet button which was a mistake as I was in a document that was much larger than the page size. The pointer would only reach to the extents of the printable page area and would not let me reach any of the tools, menus or anywhere else. To get out of the mode I was forced to close the document. After which it would reset out of Tablet mode, but still does not allow use of the mouse mode on the tablet. I have not restarted my Mac yet, but have restarted VW several times and it continues with this behavior. So. Any suggestions? Many thanks. Karl Meadkarlmead@hotmail.com Post script: I have now launched VW versions 8.5.2, 9.0, 9.01 and 9.5 and now all versions are behaving in the same way. Before the install the tablet worked perfectly in all 3 earlier versions.KM PSSI have now restarted my Mac, and restarted VW in all versions, and it behaves properly. I beleive there is something very squirrelly in the routines the Tablet option under the Page menu uses as they relate to the Graphire. Don't use it until it is updated.KM [ 01-03-2002: Message edited by: kmead ]
  14. I have had this exact problem only on my NT machines with high end video cards using 8.0, 8.5.2 and I am about to test 9.0. We had to downgrade our videocards to a older much much slower card to get things to work. So far I have not had this problem at all on any of my iMacs (3) , G3 Powerbooks (3) or G4s with 16mb ATI Rage (a mix of 400, 450 and 500 mhz machines). We have a wide range of USB and SCSI items installed with associated drivers. I have just installed VW 9.0 on a G4 450 and although I am rather dismayed at some of the problems I am having with the software itself, no video problems yet on this machine. Once I have worked with it I will post some of the issues I have encountered.
  15. I have 10 Macs running 8.5.2, we have absolutely no problems running withh OS 9.04. I also have WinNT runnign on 550Athlons, the 450Mhz G4 are 25% faster using the VW speedtest. On the NTs we had to change out a higher performance graphics board that was incompatible to fix a bunch of display issues with VW. So sum up is my experience withh 25 seats in use has been the opposite of what has been stated in this thread. My 2cents. Karl Mead
