  1. Has anyone a good recommendation for a good DWG viewer? I am tired of importing, choosing units, etc. just to view a file. A slow procedure. There is a simpler viewer called "eDrawings" but it crashes constantly. Has anyone here discovered a better alternative? Thank you!
  2. Thank you, I know that trick, but that is not exactly "auto"... one must click to colapse...
  3. Is there any way to auto collapse palettes when move the mouse out of them? Is it planned for a newer release? Thank you, and merry chrstmas 4 u all.
  4. Is this possible? Like having a building with multiple floorplans, and having the ability to hide or unhide the floor? For drawing sections "manually"? I want it to be a symbol in order to have any change reflected in all the instances of it. Thank you,
  5. On the other side, a Mac with Intel Dual Core processors is very fast and an excellent machine. You can even install Windows and have a dual boot workstation. On the Mac side you won't have viruses, and VW runs very well under Mac OS X. It really depends if you are open to learn a new platform but if you are planning on changin your computer, I strongly recommend a Macintosh.
  6. Just select the file on the Mac, Click Command + i for file info, and in the open with section, select the Vectorworks application from its folder. If you can't select it, be sure to use all available applications from the menu, not the "recommended ones", at the top of the window. Good luck!
  7. Just discovered that if I choose "glass" as the leaf type this happens, and if I return the leaf back to "solid" it disappears. Why a glass door has to appear duplicated on the floor?
  8. The problem is happening to me again and I can?t get rid of it... How can I get back my normal doors? Thank you
  9. Katie, I am very interested in this issue. What do you consider a slow video card? What about the Intel GMA 950 built in on a MacBook, and the PCI Express Ati Radeon X1600 on an iMac? How do these card qualify? Thank you!
  10. I bought for myself a new MacBook about two months ago. I choosed the 2 Ghz model with 2 Gb of RAM. I've been waiting all this time for a Universal version of VectorWorks to run on my computer natively. Meanwhile, as an experiment, I loaded my MacBook with Paralells Desktop (virtualization software that allows one to install other operating systems in a computer) and then installed Windows XP and AutoCAD 2006. I was expecting a very sluggish behaviour of both Windows XP and AutoCAD, but, for my surprise, performance is astounding. Windows runs very fast, and so does Autocad. I am particularly impressed how smoothly I can pan, zoom, and rotate those enormous 3D models that comes as samples for Acad. Having in mind the MacBook has an integrated chipset, and the fact I am running Windows over Mac OS X, I am amazed. AutoCAD performs much faster than VectorWorks 12 does on my work's Mac mini, which has a 1.5 Ghz PowerPC G4 with 1 Gb of RAM and a dedicated 64 Mb VRAM ATi Radeon 9200. The question is... Will the Universal binary version of VectorWorks run so fast (or faster) on Mac OS X as Autocad runs inside Win & Paralells Desktop? I am particulary surprised how fast and smooth is the dynamic zoom and the panning inside a drawing. Even in very complex drawings, everything is fast. I am very interested on this topic because I never expected so great performance in my experiment! Thank you.
  11. What version of VW are U using? In versions previous to 12, you must press the option (alt) key, while you scroll the wheel.
  12. I understand VW for Intel Macs was already demonstrated at trhe 2006 AIA Expo. Is there any report about the improvements or benefits on the Intel plattform?
  13. I would be very interested too!
  14. Hello. I am using a new MacBook right now. The computer is fantastic, I really want one. I understand the MacBook has integrated graphics instead of a dedicated graphics card. I am coming from a G4 iBook which had a 32 MB dedicated card. Most of my work is 2D drafting, although I often do 3D models of simple homes or small offices. But no big buildings or complex 3D animations. In the iBook, VW has run enough fast for me. I really like the MacBook?s cool design, and it has a dual core processor so I suspect when the Universal version of VW comes out, it should run fast in these computers. I imagine I should notice the lack of a 3D card when moving inside complex wireframes, am I wrong? Has anybody used VW in a PC with the Intel GMA 950 graphics chipset? Thank you!
  15. Mike, the plugin available in the Abvent site DOES work. You have to read the instructions that come with it, and read the directions about adding the options to the workspace. Once installed, you can choose between exporting to Artlantis 4.5 or R. The problem I have in both my iBook and Mac mini is that Artlantis 4.5 crashes almost all the time under Mac OS X 10.4.6
  16. Katie, I understand what you tell me, I am waiting for the Universal version of VW, but as there is no info when it will be available (unless you can tell us), I wanted to know if a previous version of VW could run with less problems than v12.
  17. Archoncad, I read the topics you mention, but all the info is related on running VW 12 on Intel Macs. What about running VW 11 or VW 10?
  18. Hello. In my office we are planning on buying a new iMac with an Intel Core Duo processor. I understand VW 12 doesn't run very well on this computers, it crashes with the Offset tool and probably other tools. Has anybody tried version 11 or even version 10 on these Intel Macs? This is my opportunity for a long awaited upgrade, so I must do it now. While a Universal version of VW does not ship, I need a way to work. Thank U!
  19. Thanks for your explanation Alan. The MacBook can use an external monitor as an extended desktop, so it would be useful for me. But to simplify the thing, imagine we already have a 3D model ready, with all lights and views finished and we put, side to side, a Dual Core 2 Ghz PowerPC G5 Mac, a Dual Core 2 Ghz Intel MacBook, and a 3.6 Ghz Pentium 4 Win PC. We choose a Final Quality Renderworks. We start the three computers at the same time. Which one is supposed to end first? I am supposing the MacBook would be using a Universal version of VW, of course.
  20. Alan, I understand the integrated graphics in the MacBook are not the best, but for example for rendering, what will give me speed, the graphic card, or the processor(s)? The MacBook, having a dual core chip, won't render blazingly fast in Renderworks? What is the role of the graphic card in this? Thank you,
  21. Now that the cool MacBooks have been announced, I am hurried to know WHEN a Universal version of VW will be available! Hugo
  22. Hello. I am inserting doors in VW 12, in a wall, and the door appears in the wall and in the floor. I have changed several settings but it is still on the floor. How can I convert it to a normal door? Thank you.
  23. Travis, I think I didn't express myself correctly... What I want is the "Find & replace" command to work with text inside callouts. Actually when I decide to replace a description, I must double click all callouts to make the changes. It would be nice to just replace once.
  24. Is this posible? I've been unable and I need this too much! Thank you.
  25. The print service we use can print PDFs, but they claim the process is slower than printing PLTs... they say PLTs are simpler (I can imagine anything easier than printing a PDF file...). So I am curious if there is any way of exporting VW drawings to PLT. I will check if I can discover the plotter they use. Someone is supposed to teach me how to do this but I suspect they will know nothing about Macs so I will remain sending PDFs. I have Adobe Acrobat so the process is very easy for me and I actually get excellent prints selecting "Press Quality" in the PDF settings. But I'm still curious about the .PLT thing. Thank you all, very much.
