  1. I just upgraded to a mac pro - in order to migrate I had to upgrade to OS X 10.10. For starters, I can say that Renderworks isn't working - Fast or Final quality renders as wireframe (in viewports). In layer view, nothing displays. I'd advocate caution. Now how do I de-upgrade my OS? I know ... ask Google...
  2. Solved: Just in case anyone else has this problem, the issue was resolved by updating the OS to 10.9.5
  3. I'm experiencing a weird bug. I tend to think it's in the mac OS, but for some reason it doesn't happen to any of my other applications (only VW 2015). When I'm working in other applications and then return to VW, all of the pallets shift to the top left of the monitor and off the screen ... so that I can't access any of the windows and reposition them. The menu bar still appears to function, but commands (save, quit, etc) don't seem to execute. Here's a screen shot of that corner of my screen: http://cl.ly/image/1z0t442j2C0f Is this an isolated case or are others experiencing this? The only way out seems to be to force quit the program and then restart the application. Note: Force quitting the Finder and turning on and off the Dock display (suggestions via web search) don't correct the problem.
  4. I would second the request to disable this alert entirely.
  5. BCD - Restart didn't help. JimW - I assume there must be an automated way of updating the icon display graphics. Can you direct me toward how to do so? -- What is the most effective method of migrating all of your custom items from one version to another (User drawing template, hatches, gradients, libraries, etc)? Currently, I manually copy them from one user folder i.e. 2014 to 2015. Then I batch convert all of the relocated files in the user folder to v.2015. Is that the right way to do this? Given that migration is a standard process that takes place every year, it seems like there should be an automated means for the software to migrate all of the user files and settings from the older version to the newer. Is that the case? I don't recall seeing the option available during installation.
  6. After migrating a number of custom plugins to the 2015 workspace, I've discovered that a number of their icons won't display. What has changed and how do I get these trusty icons back into my workflow? Incidentally, the plugins do appear to work (as my hotkeys will still activate the tools) ... I just can't tell from looking at them which is which. Screen grab: http://cl.ly/image/1H1D1N2z0503
  7. Hi All, I've noted for a while now that the timber sizes within this tool are inaccurate. 8" nom. actually = 7 1/4" in reality (not 7 1/2" as per the tool). 10", 12"... all follow this standard. I looked into the "Plug-in Manager" to see if there was a way to manually update the values for the tool ... but couldn't find a way. Has anyone else been able to correct this?? Or, should I submit it as a bug? Thanks,
  8. Thanks - excellent ideas. I'll try them both and see which works better.
  9. I usually set my first floor datum to 0'-0". It just makes the math easier. Topography on the other hand can vary in elevation considerably. Let's say the first floor datum aligns to the model at 108'-0". If you draw the two at the correct elevations, obviously they display 100+' apart. Do you then do a snapshot or a viewport to get them aligned correctly? If you do, then drawing DTM modifiers gets tough to coordinate. I'm just really curious how people do this. Thanks.
  10. I'm not sure that I have the right answer, as I dealt with this problem some time ago, but I might be able to get you close. As I recall the titleblock text style is controlled by the attributes. I think it's the pen style. If the pen style for the text block is set to "by class" then the font can be changed. If the pen style is set to a color i.e. black, then it will lock in the font you select for it within the titleblock symbol and not change. Give that a try and see if it works.
  11. Wow - I just tried to use the story function. I gave it a solid try and finally buckled. It's too difficult to integrate into existing methods and workflows. That said, what it is trying to address is vitally important. I would REALLY like to have a way of automating layer elevations. When I draw, I think in relative heights: The floor framing is relative to the subfloor, the mudsill is relative to the floor framing, the stemwall is relative to the mudsill, etc. If Vectorworks could do this as well, I would be really happy. -- To do this, add an option in the Layers so that they can be either set to a fixed elevation or relative (referenced) to the elevation of another layer. In the event that a (referenced from) layer was deleted a dialogue box would pop up asking if you would like to re-assign referencing to a new layer or assign it to a fixed elevation. i.e. it's existing elevation as a default. Consider a simple UI too - like having a "linked" layer column in the Navigation Pallet. So when you select a layer it indicates which layer it is referenced from and a simple control-click let's you adjust the elevation offset. Thanks
  12. You can select "Edit Marker List" from the pull down menu on the attribute pallet and then "New." This will give you all of the standard arrowheads to choose from which you can then tweak CONSIDERABLY to create a number of other different looking objects. For example: Using the Oval, I set the width to a large number and thereby created a long bar to be used for detail cuts. It's not a perfect solution, but it might get you closer to where you want to go.
  13. Thanks Will. I didn't realize that the Move command could be applied to reshape. Your suggestion helps considerably. -- Matthew
  14. Since VB Stretch no longer appears to be supported, I've been using the reshape tool for adjusting multiple objects at once. Unfortunately, it's behavior is less than desirable. Once I've drawn a marquee and begin to reshape - if I tab into the data bar I have to continue holding down the mouse button while entering values ... it makes for some hand gymnastics. I have "Click-Drag" off in the preferences. Is this a bug, or is there a simple way to allow tabbing into the reshape fields of the data bar to stick? Thanks,
  15. Whenever I place a symbol i.e. from the furniture library, if a new symbol has the same texture as one already in the drawing I get an error message asking me to replace the texture / rename the new texture / or not to import the texture. As a series of symbols can have 3 or more textures each, this can get tiresome. Is there a way to set default behavior so that redundant textures are ignored ...i.e. "Do not import this texture?" Thanks,

With the window selected, in the OIP, under the heading "Visualization", change "Open Angle" to 0. That will show the window as closed in plan view. As to your preferred opening symbol, you can certainly add it over the object. Kind Regards,
  17. Ah yes, I think I have the answer that you'll be happy with: After you draw your shape and assign the hatch, in the attribute palette, click on the "fill hatch settings" (the button to the right of the hatch name display). That opens a dialog box. Now check "Use Local Mapping" In the rotation field, type the angle of the object i.e. 45?. The hatch will rotate to display correctly. Now for the cool part. If you now rotate the object, the hatch will rotate with it and continue to display correctly. So, if you're detailing a bunch of 1/2" plywood pieces, you can copy, paste, and modify to your heart's delight. It doesn't work for curved objects, but should take care of everything else.
  18. I've got to say - 2012 is the most stable release of a new product line that I've seen in several years. I haven't any compatibility issues or crashes since I installed the new version. Personally, I'm in favor of this approach - making the software more refined and mature, rather than adding a bunch of fancy features that work some of the time.
  19. If your section and elevation markers are linked to other viewports i.e. through using the "Create Section Viewport" command, then the marker display is controlled through the OIP of the section/elevation viewport. Select the viewport and the OIP will allow you to select what layers and/or viewports the markers will be displayed within.
  20. I am also experiencing the same problem. In my case, the text turns into a string of random characters. A simpler work around for the titleblock issue is to convert the text to polylines using the 'Truetype to Polyline' command. Obviously this only works for static text.
  21. Thanks for the confirmation.
  22. Well, that's good news. It looks like this isn't happening for anyone else. I'll follow up with Tech Support.
  23. I've finally decided to transition all of my workflows to v.2011. The new slab tool looks promising. It was one of the first items I tried out. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work (out of the box). It works fine in polygon mode, but when I try to generate the slab using a group of enclosing walls (autojoin on, etc.) it always fails. Is there some kind of non-intuitive trick here? I've selected each wall so that it is highlighed in red, but to no avail. Thanks for your help.
