    Fonts & 9.5

That is good news that the Font Bureau's versions of Graphite are working with OSX. Thanks for the input.
  2. I had the same problem (see the most recent "Fonts and 9.5" topic in the General Discussion area). Mac G4, OS 9.1 I reloaded the operating system and everytning works well. Unfortunately, this can be quite time consuming. I did try to call Apple- they were as unhelpful as could be. I have previously had great experience with their tech support.

    Fonts & 9.5

I reloaded the operating system (Mac 9.1) and Vectorworks 9.5 is now working well.

    Fonts & 9.5

I have installed VW9.5 on a G4 laptop running OS9.1. All the fonts, including the Graphite multiple master fonts seem to work fine. The G4 laptop has the CarbonLib 1.2.5 extension, while the G4 desktop has the CarbonLib 1.4 extension. Could this be the source of my font problems? Am I better off using the CarbonLib 1.2.5 extension? Both systems are running OS 9.1.

    Fonts & 9.5

I believe the problem with Graphite is because it is a multiple master font. I do not understand what the problem is with Palatino, but I will call tech support to see if they have any input. I have been using Adobe's multiple master version of Graphite. In a previous related topic someone mentioned that there were other versions of Graphite available that are not multiple master fonts. Another source for Graphite is "Font Bureau" (www.fontbureau.com). They sell "Macintosh Type 1" versions of Graphite. The Font Bureau fonts consist of three files, the font suitcase, a PostScript file and an "AMF" file they say is optional and only required by "certain high-end applications." Does anyone know if this version of Graphite will work with Vectorworks 9.5? It seems that on the Macintosh, some fonts will not work with carbonized applications regardless of the version of the operating system. I should probably have understood this from the previous fonts topic, so thanks to anyone who replied earlier.
  6. I just upgraded from version 9.01 to version 9.5, and Vectorworks 9.5 will not work with many of the fonts on my computer. Mac G4, 512mb ramSystem 9.1 ALL of my drawings use the fonts Palatino and Adobe Graphite. While these fonts show up in the text menu, they will not appear in either old drawings created in version 9.01 or in drawings created in 9.5. I have checked the CarbonLib extension, it is version 1.4 as recommended by Nemetschek. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?
  7. Greg has a great idea to use the "Tile" function to create hatches. I purchased an add on product called "Motivo" from a company name Sintac about two years ago. "Motivo" allows the user to simply draw a pattern and then save it as a hatch. This solved a lot of problems for me; I was going crazy trying to use the Vectorworks hatch creation tools. I used "Motivo" to quickly create a library of hatches in VW version 8.5, but I have not used it with VW version 9. I have however been successfully using my library of custom hatches that were created in VW version 8 with VW version 9. I found "Motivo" on the Nemetschek web site, and it has been very useful, and was well worth the ?$50 cost. I will try the tile command to see if it accomplishes the same thing. This also raises the point that the Vectorworks hatch creation tools could be improved and made easier to use. I think this has been a fairly common complaint.
  8. Will the Adobe Post Script Driver work with VW9.5 and Mac OS 9.1? Will Adobe Acrobat work VW9.5 and Mac OS 9.1?

We have talk with HP about this several times. After try numerous "fixes" HP finally told us that they were aware of the problem with their software, but they do not have any plans to fix it. As a result of this problem, we have been very disappointed with the HP product and service. Unfortunately, I do not see any alternative to an HP postscript compatible plotter for our office. We have tested the Microspot driver, but it does not seem to provide plots of the same quality as the postscript driver. The HP Postscript plotters are expensive, and I would try to get some assurance that the driver software functions correctly before purchasing one again. How does the 500PS that repaced the 488CA work? I forgot to mention that we use Macs and OS9.1.

  12. Thanks to everyone for the useful feedback. My understanding is also that the problem is related to incompatibilities between OSX and multiple master fonts. It is an problem that either Apple needs to fix, or perhaps Adobe needs to modify the fonts so they are compatible with OSX. I would imagine that this incompatibility with multiple master fontswould be a huge problem for graphic designers . We use Graphite for architectural drawings and I like the font very much. We will need to have all the pieces in place before switching to OSX and it seems like fonts and printing are still a problem. Can anyone suggest a "hand lettered" font ( similar to Graphite) that works with OSX? I have tried the free "Archi" font from the VW web site, but prefer Adobe's Graphite.
  13. Irving: Thank you for the information. From what I had been reading, I suspected that Graphite and other multiple master fonts would not work with OSX. I hope Apple will address this soon. Will VWA 9.5 run using OS 9.1? We are currently using VWA 9.0.1, and are hoping to upgrade to 9.5 when the final version is ready.
  14. Thank you for your promt reply. Unfortunately, this font does require ATM. We are using the font with VW 9.0.1 and MAC OS9.1 and have had no problems (it also worked well with VW8). Rotated and vertical text print well on our HP488CA. I am concerned that we will have a problem if we switch to OSX. I have read the previous topic regarding fonts, but I am still uncertain whether this font will work or or not with OSX. Thanks for your help.
  15. Our office uses Adobe Graphite, a multiple master font. 1. Will this font work with Vectorworks v 9.5 running in the "classic" Apple OS? 2. Will this font work with Vectorworks v 9.5 running in Apple OSX? We are eager to upgrade to OSX and Vectorworks 9.5 as soon as possible, but will need to have the Graphite font available.
