  1. Hello! I'm taking elevations from a model and have a problem: A lattice I created using a repetitive unit (continuous around entire house (so the individual panels are not accurately represented but give the idea with less time)) shows the edges of each unit symbol. The attached 3D view illustrates, I think, the lines in between each vertical lattice unit. Is there a way to fix this in the elevation viewport? I have unchecked "generate intersecting lines" and fiddled with the smoothing angle to no avail. Is there a way to fix this from the Repetitive Unit OIP? Is a repetitive unit just now how I should have modeled this? Alternative methods?
  2. Hi, I've created a library of slab styles that conform to our graphics and construction methods. That library is currently a favorite, and is accessible in the resource browser. Is it possible to get that library to show up in the pull-down list of slab styles when the slab tool is activated? I never use the ones that are there. Thanks! Amelia VW 2014
  3. I'm still using hatches within viewport annotations. It's quite annoying.
  4. Thanks Jim, I did do that when I installed 2014 but I'd really like to avoid doing it again because wouldn't that create duplicates of everything?
  5. To anyone who is successfully using door hardware: Where in your computer is the Door Hardware.vwx file stored?
  6. Thanks for your reply Chris. It doesn't. It looks like this. You can see where yours shows the door hardware symbol and mine doesn't. That's where I'm unable to see or select any hardware. I have the door hardware library in my resource browser though..
  7. Can anyone help us with door hardware? All of the sets listed are empty (when I select them nothing shows up on the door). When I go to manage hardware -> edit, there is all of the data but no symbol, and nothing happens when I click in the symbol box. Same thing when I try to add hardware. I can't select any symbols. I don't really understand how door hardware works vs. all of the normal symbols. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
  8. In my hidden line elevation, a segment-top door opening is showing up super jagged- as 4 lines. An extrude shows the arc smoothly, but the opening is not. Is there some setting in the door object that could change this? Changing the smoothing angle of the VP doesn't do anything. The 3D render behind it shows the curve well. Thanks, Amelia VW 2014
  9. Thank you both so much! Wes I really appreciate you uploading that - it was great to experiment with. I'm not sure if sending the windows to front helped but between the two suggestions, I've been able to fix most of the line weights in my elevation. THANK YOU!
  10. I?m having an issue with window trim line weights in elevation. We?re working in stucco and I want the trim to be subtle in the elevations. I have given the exterior trim its own class with a light line weight, but I?ve realized that in a hidden line elevation, the trim?s line weight is controlled by the wall class (shown in green in the attached image). Is there anyway around this short of building the trim manually? I want the edges/ corners of the walls to be a medium weight, but the trim to be different. P.S. The attached image also shows another problem I'm having: Notice that three of the window's edges are green (wall-exterior class) and the other is black (window class). Does it sound like I'm doing something wrong? Any feedback is very greatly appreciated!! VW 2014
  11. Nevermind. I didn't know you had to drag it from the resource browser.
  12. Hey y'all. I've read a bunch of posts on dormers but I still can't figure it out. I've created a symbol with walls and a roof which I place and then manually cut out the roof below it. It looks fine but is kind of tedious to work with. I would like the dormer roof to be connected to the main roof, how it looks like you have done it, Christiaan. They say you can just insert a window into a roof? I don't see how to do this. Dragging it just puts it on top, doesn't insert. Possibly relatedly, I have not been able to find the "Edit Roof Elements" dialogue. I have tried with both a roof and a roof face. (I'm using 2014)
  13. Oooh that's another good idea. Thank you guys so so much!
  14. That does! Option 1 looks very useful. I've been using option 3 but I get frustrated with that because often the roof below changes in the model and I forget to redraw it in annotations. Thank you!!!!
  15. Is there a way to take from a 3d model a second floor plan where the roof comes down below the cut plane of the walls? Like you would need on some houses with dormers or on an attic build-out? We have typically shown this as the zigzag cut line at the roof, but I'm having trouble getting a second floor viewport showing the roof below but not above the cut line. Thanks!
  16. Interesting. I appreciate that! How has everyone else gone about it that it happens to come out right? Would I need to recreate the texture? I assume others have had success with this?
  17. Thanks Jim - Here it is with both the 3d polygon and the extruded ground surface.
  18. Dave (or anyone else) - I checked out your grass displacement file and it looks awesome!! To implement it in my file, I tried first to mimic your texture's settings, and made sure my viewport had displacement mapping checked. When it didn't work, I copied the 3d polygon from your file and placed it in space in mine. When rendered in the same viewport, that 3d polygon shows correct displacement, but my ground surface (with the same texture) does not. Since my ground surface is an extrude, I tried fiddling with the map type in the extrude's OIP but to no avail. Any idea why the texture would render with displacement on one object and without on another? Thanks!! So excited by the prospect of attractive grass in our renderings! Amelia VW 2014
  19. Okay thanks Jim. It will be really awesome to have this ability!
  20. This thread is from 2007. I'm creating elevations from a model in VW 2014 and wondering if the obstacle described above has been passed? I'm tired of redoing 2d annotations every time a little change is made. As Peter says, "Sort of ruins the whole 'everything from the model' and 'draw it once' paradigms..."
