  1. hi don't really know to much about scripts.....would appreciate your knowledge
  2. i know we can lock items individually but i would find it useful if i could right click to lock the complete layer in one go as you would in illustrator. i know i could maybe do this in class options but i like to work with show/snap/modify others checked just a thought
  3. maybe this is my problem see arrows on the profile and the path the arrows run in the same direction but it only seems to work when i divide the shape into 4 sections
  4. tried your suggest it seem to fail when using a profile curve but when i used a box it followed the path correctly strange i did what you said ....... split the shape into 4 but not a closed path and it works with the profile curve
  5. yes i can the problems with the truss....they are all different lengths so i really need to go and create the correct profile and create a new tented roof and the duplicate along path i could not understand that the profile did not follow the path i'll try your suggestions thanks again benson.....
  6. this is the interior needs a bit more work to align all the decorative steelwork but at least i am able to work on the project interior
  7. this was the final outcome but had to copy the nurbs curves manually
  8. i tried the duplicate along path and this is the outcome see screenshots
  9. Had a problem with duplicating along a path In bensons video he duplicated the nurbs curve around what's best to describe as a running track however on my posted screen shot it has faceted end so when I tried this method it resulted in a weird outcome.....I will post a screenshot tomorrow......
  10. brilliant video benson.....very good....and thanks for taking the time to post this.....this i can use on a lot of my projects regards phil
  11. wow this is good agreed a you tube video would be good if possible i cant seem to get the hang of this yet (To get the sag between the ribs, enter the group, select one of the surfaces (my red one) and in OIP change the U degree to 2. Then change the Move option to U vertices, and use the edit arrows to select a middle vertex. Now in the xyz position fields, add 6" (eg) to the y value and a sag will appear. Repeat for each surface. Gets tricky for the ones on the curved ends of the tent, but rotate the surface so that plan projection is parallel to x axis, add the value to the U vertices, then rotate the surface back into position.) but this is a get of jail solution to at least give me a roof over the tent i think it would be good for VW to put dome videos up regarding extracting and lofting as i am sure a lot of users just give up and really its in the software all the time thanks all
  12. So Revolve with Rail didn't work if you break the trussed roof down into three (or more) sections, modelling the middle and two ends separately? i think this will work i have tried this just need to spend some time on the project thought i could do this in one move using the loft with 2 rails but seems to round the ends out and not keep the straight shape of the bottom rail
  13. hi kaare this is an actual structure that exists and has been built many many times its of a hire company but they don't have a 3d model which is my problem

  16. i have a project on the go at the moment....its a tricky one to model...the frameworks not to bad but i need to put a canvas roof over the tops of the timber truss work i have tried all the things that i know revolve with rail loft surfaces have even tried duplicating the truss curve along a path and then lofting the surface but i can't seem to find an easy way of achieving the effect
  17. it would be nice to have the spelling checked as we input the text instead of how we have to do it at the moment maybe with an underline as in a word document. i sometimes forget to spell check all of the drawing....... spelling is not my strongest point .......maaaannyyy thannnkksss
  18. When will vectorworks 2016 be released for download and what will be the hardware specification for a MAC?

  20. wow thanks for sharing that would never have found that in a month of sundays
  21. David When I texture pools I usually make the water glass and then map a texture on the top surface of an actual pool or swimming whatever the effect you are trying to achieve get or a make a seamless texture and then give it say a 50% transparency or more you could give it a bump map to show some contours of water there's a slider and all kinds of effects when you make the initial texture you could also make it shiney so it reflects the sky if you have one in your scene
  22. try this i think this is what Jonathan is saying when you put your cursor on the shape to drag press and hold down the mouse on the shape for a second keep the mouse pressed then hit the alt key and drag this works everytime
  23. jonathan maybe you could do one of your short videos....i alway watch them to pick up some tips
  24. i sometimes draw the circle on the face and give it a negative value say your shape is 600mm / 2 ft in old money give it a negative extrusion of -700 and then do a subtract solid surface that will work for you to...... keep going with VW it is a good piece of software but just has some funny ways and with so many helpful people on this forum there always a solution feel free to send me a note if you require some help....i've been using this for some 20 years but still have to ask when it gets a bit tricky...... the other keyboard command that i find useful is alt/command/M this will give you the chance to move a shape in the Z direction even on a plan view if you ever just want to draw your circle on top of your shape and then send it in a negative Z direction really good shortcut
