  1. Revisiting this almost exactly a year later with a Spacemouse Wireless, and I really can find no joy using it.

VW still doesn't seem to have Roll (just Tilt). Spinning only works the way I want if the object center is at 0,0,0 (otherwise it's like a boomerang or race car going around a track). Tilting is like riding around a ferris wheel (vs a spit roast). I only want to rotate an object (in all  6  4 degrees of freedom) around its center (a center that I choose with a click regardless of it's X,Y,Z).

I'm beginning to suspect that VW users only use Helicopter mode for navigation / presentation purposes vs Object / Target Camera mode for modeling (in the CAM sense).

What I'm still searching for is a way to use the Flyover Tool with my left hand. Is there another 3D mouse that will enable me to accomplish this? I wonder if a simple trackball mouse would work for this? Use the CadMouse in my right hand to click the center, and then use the trackball to rotate? Would have to figure out the Context-click to avoid continuously selecting / deselecting the Flyover tool...

  2. "Upgraded" my 2019 MBP to macOS 12.4 a few days ago (4-5 months sooner than I would typically upgrade because I prefer to safely stay 1 full release behind), and I'm already having all manner of external display issues.

    Couple of observations:

    • Resetting PRAM / VRAM will reenable Automatic Graphics Switching
      • If you had disabled that, you'll need to uncheck that box for both Battery and Power Adapter settings as needed
    • I had to set my internal MBP display to Main Display
      • Which is a happy accident for dragging screenshots from my desktop
      • Sadly, VW still launches on the internal display, so I still have to move the window to the external display, and resize the docked palettes

I do this so often that I have a tendency to avoid File > Open Recent.

Two reasons it happens so often in my experience:

    1. We save copies of our files each time we do a drawing issue, so they get added to the list with a near identical file name.

    2. If we ever open a backup file that also gets added to the list with a very similar file name.

Same. I completely ignore it to avoid my own user error but then I watch my collaborators use it on a screen share, and it's a one-way ticket to Anxietyville when I see the hodgepodge of poorly named files, and it's anyone's guess which is the right one.

I always do a screenshare to get the rest of my team properly set up for project sharing, so I'd love to add the step of setting this to None, similar to Mac Sys Prefs (perhaps slightly different than this VE):

VWX interprets vertices totally differently then Adobe Illustrator. 75 vertices in the adobe world becomes 305 points in Vectorworks. Massive bloat.

Not sure if this helps but: Modify > Drafting Aids > Simplify Polys...

The usual convert commands might help too... maybe convert to NURBS and then convert it back or something similar.

  5. My old way of interacting with SmartCursor Settings was to double-click any snapping mode, and then arrow-key through the dialog sidebar... Any correlation that 3D axes have with Grid settings is arbitrary at best. The SmartCursor Settings dialog is one of those rare instances where I prefer a dialog (but mostly because the Snapping Palette has been deprecated to the Useless Bar).

    Hi Ross

I think the Connector Panel schematic device is your friend here. Create these on your power schematic, then do Update Rack Elevation to create the panels as physical equipment items. You can then use the Get Connectors button in the Object Info Palette to add the physical connector symbols to your panels. Double-click the panel equipment item to enter the panel and add any extra graphics / position connectors etc. In terms of 3D modelling you can check the Use Symbol box in the Object Info Palette and select a symbol to display.

Normally you'd import the 3D  equipment model from a file supplied by the manufacturer or create your own. It's up to you how detailed you want the drawing to be.

    Hope that helps.

So not a Wall Pocket Drop Point? That's where I started with the same thing (duplex electrical outlet for wall power), and got stuck.

  7. This has finally made it to the Public Roadmap. Please tell everyone you know to navigate to the very last "card" under the Active Research tab, click on it, select Critical, and fill out the rest:

    https://www.vectorworks.net/en-US/public-roadmap

    For starters:

    • Search bar
    • Drag more than one item
    • Drag a complete set:
      • Spotlight to Designer
      • AutoPlot to Spotlight
      • AutoPlot, ConnectCAD, Arch / BIM, Landmark... to Braceworks
    • Only configure one workspace with all keyboard shortcuts, context clicks, palettes...
      • Without having to redundantly enter (and re-enter every. single. annual. release.)
      • Never have to switch workspaces or resize palettes again!

Like your amazing RECLASS script, if it had verification, as you filled out the class it would autocomplete against existing classes. Takes a little of the guess work out of it.

Data Validation is something I've discussed / requested with Sam but it sounds like VW has an issue with accomplishing that for some reason. Would love to be wrong about this as I use data validation regularly elsewhere.

    10. Profile size should be editable as a pull down at the root level of the OI, not embedded behind a shape selection button.

Not to mention the complete workflow:

    1. Copy VW Library folder/file to User Library
    2. Open library file
    3. Duplicate Wide Flange symbol, and rename
    4. Edit Wide Flange (PIO)
    5. Save library file
    6. Refresh libraries
    7. Then... select that file from the OIP Settings

If I select and place a column, in architectural only mode, I cannot select a custom profile for a concrete column.  Would be useful to be able to do so, from a symbol in the file, similar to how the framing member works.  Only options for concrete colimn is 'oval' and 'rectangle'.

We are able to select a profile for the steel column, but only from a predefined list, and not a custom profile as one can the framing member.

Is there a VE for this yet?

Create Class with Selected Attributes works as a work around but there are some obvious caveats to it - like if you have objects in a group with multiple attributes, then it's not the droids you're looking for 😢

    Right but if you:

    1. Select objects
    2. Click Class in the OIP
    3. Click New Class...

I don't see any extra clicks from a context click to run a script:

    1. Select objects
    2. Right-Click on an object or nothing aka "document"
    3. Click Create new class from selection...

Maybe I'm missing something or...  You must unlearn what you have learned.

Btw I've been populating my custom workspace context clicks with my favorite commands from Sam's AP workspace, along with some great suggestions from other users, because I hate throwing my cursor around a huge screen (and there's not always a shortcut for everything), but I'm getting to a point where any more commands I add have to earn a spot in there before it gets too crowded (law of diminishing returns).

On that note, Sam will be presenting those commands at the next NYC VUG.
