  1. With the cursor tool selected, look to the right of the cursor tool button, the upper left-hand corner of the window. Go to the fifth icon from where the cursor tool is, the Enable Connected Wall Mode, and deselect it. Bothersome, isn't it? This is one of those really anoying defaults. Ever notice how the default setting is (usually) not at all what you want, so you end up frequently having to change it?
  2. Thanks. The v11 tag really confuses me, and the dialog box didn't make sense until you explained it. If I look a file name and it says v11, how would I conclude that it is v121?
  3. V12 is not rendering using Final Quaiity Renderworks Render Bitmap tool. Using V12 Render Bitmap, A black rectangle is the result. Preferences are set to medium. Resolution set to 72 DPI. Nothing running except VW. Using V11.5.1 (same file exported) Render Bitmap, Renders predictably. Nothing running except VW. Preferences set to medium. Resolution set to 72 DPI Must reslove this. Any thoughts? OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional System Model Dell DXP051 Processor x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~3192 Mhz Processor x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~3192 Mhz Total Physical Memory 4,096.00 MB [ 01-12-2006, 08:56 AM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  4. V12 appends a V11 tag to the file name when opening an old .mcd drawing. My guess is that VW programmers know this. Right? But then, why append anything?
  5. Tried to say that it is in Top/Plan View that this occurs. Regardless, in Top View, the lines would be, and are, solid, as they are also visible when viewed, say, in an iso projection, or perspective.
  6. In V12, 2D Plan View, when editing a symbol, walls lack their outside and inside lines, and roofs lack their hip and valley lines. This is when viewed in wireframe and happens regardless of class and/or attribute settings. The drawing looks sometning like a GL rendered picture - sort of fuzzy and undefined. I'm hoping that there is a setting I'm unaware of.
  7. Maybe this is a topic for the Landmark section, but I'm wondering if V12 has any abilities for reading and incorporating GIS information.
  8. Try setting undos to 0, Set active layer to Top/2D View, Set rendering to Wireframe, Activate one layer at a time, Work locally, not on a network-based file Edit or draw from within a group or a symbol, so that you are otherwise isolated from the drawing file. If any of these suggestions help, then the drawing or layer is too complex or VW is constantly trying to render. Curved polygons (site contours) take up lots of processing time for me. So do complex 3d objects. [ 12-29-2005, 09:01 PM: Message edited by: ErichR ]
  9. 1) What command do you use to combine the discrete road segments into one path? 2) Then there isn't a way to have intersections, radiussed corners and all of the other stuff we do to make our buildings fit the site?
  10. Then the same question applies: How do the various road parts interconnect?
  11. Is there a way to have roadways intersect each other, as in combine surface?
  12. NickB It's the AEC>Column... command in my version. And yes, it does work. The manual could use a few more words here. Thanks!
  13. Maybe you need to look at the 3D rendered version of your drawing. Like the Open GL or Hidden Line to see the changes. But there is a Show 3d Detail checkbox on the PIO Object Info Palette that might help.
  14. As you suggest, the colum PIO does of course act on walls. However, it does not appear to 'join' with the wall, as advertised. This is not such a minor issue. If you want the lines to describe just the outline of the wall + column, you will be hard pressed to do so. In other words, by plugging the column into the wall you have to accept the lines that describe the column, and the column butting into it. The result is limiting and looks, and is, incorrect.
  15. That's not the way it's described in the manual. It says, "Walls and columns can be joined together. Any number of walls can connect to the column as long as space exists on the column." Hence, my query.
  16. Columns and Walls. I can't get this feature to work, whether or not the auto-join feature is active. The Wall Join tool doesn't seem to recognize the column PIO. V11.5.1 XP
  17. Kevin, Hooray! Thank you. Now for a magic $500 or so for an upgraqde...
  18. This is hugely trivial. If you want to read them, buy VW, and change the suffix, but I couldn't detect anything close to the key to the universe. But then, we're all naive, aren't we?
  19. Little has been said about the ability to use different scales with layers; not an option with classes. Also, if there is a class wish list... Make it possible to edit classes, i.e. combine classes that may differ only in the way they are named. It gets confusing if you have a space before or after a class name (when nesting classes), through typos or through importing. A-Wall is different from A - Wall, and A -Wall, etc. Combine them all with a single stroke of the magic wand...
  20. Except that you can change the scale of layers, but not classes.
  21. Maybe you could post a VW rendering of yr workspace...
  22. This is all very well and good until you - opps!...import a .dwg and get another 150 classes, because those new classes were their layers. Not a bad idea to use the AIA standard layering for VW classes, whether or not you contemplate importing drawings. The use of the hyphen is brilliant for allowing the nesting/outlining of classes.
  23. Also, same file, if you click on a PIO in a wall, the wall goes berserk. How is it possible to edit a wall if you can't click on it? I've noticed this before in other files. What's the FTP address? Is that faster than e-mailing?
  24. Islandmon: yeah, but it's a lot clearer if things are spelled out.
