  1. What's the best way to create the ceiling shown in this image from the 2015 teaser? I have an upcoming project which requires a similar ceiling. I would probably done it with a EAP for the edge and using a solid addition for the main... Or should I use a slab?
  2. 3D hatches, are they image based or vector based? The level feature, are they "live" and do the levels appear in all 3D views? i.e. sections, elevations etc
  3. I use mainly classes for the existing, demolition and proposed. I use layers for the location of works. i.e. I throw all of the existing building into a single class (I often grey out the existing building, can achieve this with a single overide) onto a layer which represents the storey (i.e. ground floor, first floor, depending on the project). Then all demolition and proposed works are drawn on their respective layer and classed accordingly. I either use saved views to create the snapshot or control all visibilities in the viewport.
  4. My point is, there is room within VW Architect to tighten things up by creating tools for specific building elements coupled with automated class assignment etc. As you know, I'm all for automating the class assignment process. An example, Revit and Archicad both allow the creation of slab edge beams, the profile of which is user customisable. The edge beam, as well as the slab, are automatically categorised on creation and scheduled. But your idea of an all encompassing "building element" tool is interesting.
  5. Add to my list: A graded slab is not a Roof It all comes down to scheduling in the end. Difference between VW Architect and Sketchup is a few thousand dollars.
  6. Wes you miss the point. A footing is not a wall. Neither is a slab a ceiling.
  7. With comments such as " nearly all of VW is ported to 64 bit" and "Vw is almost rewritten in cocoa", I do hope these are not half baked features for which VW is known for. I can't take any more "half baked" features.
  8. It might seem obvious to just issue complete sets but in my practise I would like to keep a record myself of how the project has evolved. Sometimes a project may go on the back burner for a while before proceeding further. Accurate documentation of changes could very well come in handy. Just my 2c
  9. In my small practise this is what I do: I use Issues to indicate the "type" of drawings i.e. conceptual, appoval, construction, tender etc. As for revisions, obviously this is used when there are changes. As I'm presently a one man studio, I usually issue a revision across the whole drawing set. The issue date becomes my sheet date, and like you, the sheet date doesn't change until the next issue. I only change the revision number (not the sheet number) when I make changes. The other modus operandi I've toyed with is to create an Issue (e.g. For Tender) and apply any revisions to the sheet/s only. That probably is a more "green" way to go about it but unless the client is equally environmentally conscious it doesn't work. Problem with the sheet revision approach is that you need an accurate way to track, record and dsiplay your revisions somewhere on the sheet set, usually on the project page. Adding to the complications of this approach is that VW does not appear to have a way of handling or tracking individual sheet revisions on a title page (I believe this is possible in the Australian version of VW) although it could be possible with a worksheet - I haven't investigated that yet. Revit on the other hand, has a very useable Issue/Revision manager. Personally, I believe that we need to do all we can to ensure the accuracy of our drawings, including the recording of changes to a drawing set and ensuring that the client/builder has a way of being able to ensure they have the latest drawings.
  10. I'll take a stab.... A HDRI image serves two purposes. Firstly it can be used as a background graphic, such as a sunrise or sunset etc. The renderworks background command under the view menu turns the background graphic on or off. Secondly, a HDRI image in Vectorworks can be a source of diffused light (or environmental light). In the lighting options dialogue you have the option to use the HDRI image specifically as a light source.
  11. How about: "a fix for this annoyance is coming soon"? In any case, while it's certainly good news that VW2015 is stable and 64bit, it's good to remember that the other big boys have had these for years. It's about the other goodies as well....
  12. Given that most present graphical limitations are likely due to not being 64 bit, I didn't feel it inappropriate to ask.. How stable is it then?
  13. With the introduction of 64 bit to VW, will we have the ability to choose a session based default 3D render mode? i.e. all renders in 3D can be defaulted to hidden line? Live hidden line rendering?
  14. I've recently started to delve into worksheets a lot further. Now that VW2015 has been finished, wrapped up and ready to ship, the engineers will have time to add the following: Font style & size, border and shading controls to the area under the formula bar.
  15. Maybe I should open my eyes once in a while.. I'll add to my template file. Thx. EDIT: Actually, it's already set. But I know what's happening. Assuming you've activated "Always Display Activated Document" Open up 3 documents in successive order. ADAD is activated. Then switch to one of the non-active documents (say you want to export a resource or whatever) from the RB. Then open a new document (File>New). ADAD is subsequently from that point on deactivated. Is that the intended behaviour? Or would you expect the RB to default back to ADAD when opening new documents?
  16. I think it makes more sense if when you switched files from the window tab that the resource browser changed to show the contents of the newly selected file. Without having to click the Home icon each time..
  17. Option 2 - that's nailed it. Thanks very much for that.
  18. Hi MK, Wasn't quite what I had in mind - more of a direct drop down list in the cell itself - much like how Excel would behave...
  19. When changing the sash operation of a window from a worksheet, would it not make more sense that the drop down selection be available from the cell rather than from the top formula bar only?
  20. I would like to add project name and project date as a header to my sheet list worksheet. My sheet list worksheet displays sheet number and sheet name only. This info is pulled from my title block. Problem is, if I pull the project name and date from the title block also, I will get multiple instances of it depending on the number of sheets. So is there a way of pulling just one instance of the project name and date and adding it to my sheet list? i.e. edit the formula to only return one instance?
  21. When creating a elevational viewport from a top plan design layer (to show elevations), sometimes I want to show the section of the building at the section line only and sometimes I want to show walls etc beyond the section view. Now I know this view depth can be adjusted. But: I would like to have the option to control the clip plane of the topography independently i.e. topography clip plane 20mm, building clip plane 2000mm. Then I can achieve a clean section line of the topography while having independent control of the building. I know that I can fiddle with dual viewports but it is 2014 after all.
  22. Well, what more can I say? Working in hidden line render mode (especially when working with saved views rendered in hidden line) causes crashes nearly every time. I've got around this by mainly working in 2D and by developing a basic model for visualisation purposes. However, if I want to create sheets from a model(containing hidden line renders) navigating the file is near impossible without crashes. Question to Nemetschek: How am I to be productive and competitive with seriously flawed software like this?
