  1. I watched the video on the enhancements to the data tag - but I could not understand it all. The video stops well short of showing examples of how to use these new features. Can anybody put the new capabilities into English? Reminded me of:
  2. I am partly excited that this release is not chalked full of new tools - as it might mean that energy was spent on the back of house stuff - but a bigger part of me is saddened that there is not more to be excited about. I am scared that these even more cartoonish icons constitute a UI refresh in VW's mind. Why the half measure? Our friends in lighting and entertainment seem to have a lot more to be excited about for 2020. I have mentioned this before - but I am scared that VW is slowly shifting to an entertainment-focused software. The architecture video is pretty sad - concentrating so much on inline / in-menu editing - which is great - but long overdue. Heres hoping that the new stair tool and UI just take a couple of years to get right and we will have a landmark release in 2021.
  3. The interior elevation tags do not scale. I have an enlarged plan viewport and need to scale down the interior elevation tags. The advanced settings for symbols and tags do not respond the scaling settings there.... Help? Suggestions?
  4. Well - to me - the intrigue and power of a concept of the idea of "Materials" is that they contain a myriad of information - as you say - price, weight, R-Value...ect - in which a 2D and 3D visual identity is one. Therefore - it would seem that the 'texture' - as we call them now - would be an 'attribute' of material - one that would be user-defined - along with the other information and maybe behaviors. I think you are undercutting an otherwise really great idea. I think 'Materials" are a new thing - not a reworking of Renderworks Textures.
  5. @zoomer Ok. I like the idea of "materials." I do think, though, that textures should keep there name and simply be a setting or atribute of a material. Texture is an industry standard term, and it might be useful to separate the concepts of materials from the textures that represent then when rendering.
  6. @Art V That was my thought too. Tried that thinking that must be the issue - but it's not. The faucet, for instance, is a good 3" off the wall - the interior viewport is just not showing all the fills for the 2D components.
  7. @Andrew Davies It's even in the nomenclature. In the quick settings for example - settings are commonly labeled "Show xxxx" but a couple of the settings are labeled "Display xxx" which makes it hard to find what you are looking for. This type of thing is EVERYWHERE. It's like nobody proofread anything. Sometimes I think that VW is so nervous about scaring old users that it is unwilling to do what needs to be done to modernize the software. With each release - there are new tools, with new dialogs, that are not designed to a standard - so every tool has its slightly own look, feel, and the way to use it. The tape and spit get thicker - making the needed changes that much harder to make. Naming in general drives me mad. SIMPLIFY: Design Layers = LAYERS Sheet Layers = SHEETS Renderworks Textures = TEXTURES Stair Tool / Simple Stair / Custom Stair = All terrible - give me a working stair tool for the love of God. Rant over - back to work. These interior elevations are not going to workaround themselves....
  8. Ha. Always worth double-checking - but yes - they are filled. I have checked position issues. Class Issues Can not figure it out.
  9. I am really giving this interior elevation and 2D components in Symbols thing a go. The biggest issue I am now facing is that the 2D components do not show consistently as solid - often showing the wall hatch behind them. The frustrating thing is that while it is stable (it always shows as just linework - or with fill) what objects or even parts of a single object is seemingly random. Here you can see a faucet, mirror, and shelf, all with 2D components. The shelf and mirror are 1 symbol, and the faucet is one. The shelf and faucet controls are showing correctly while the mirror and the faucet itself are not solid. I can not figure out what is going on. I have looked at the position of the 2D and 3d objects in relation to the
  10. I really do like the interior elevation tool - but everything associated with that object takes forever.
  11. Our Gen Notes pages are the bane (bain?) of my existence. We need a General Notes Object that has smart text wrap, column, section, and page component. I want to: 1) Have 1 centralized editor where I can see ALL my general notes. 2) This editor should be able to set up sections and have smart numbering options for these sections. 3) Have height, width, and # of columns control - with rollover and wrapping functionality. The dumbest version of this tool would create an "object" where I can set the height, width, and # of columns, and then it would simply fill and wrap as required. It would also need to be able to "rollover" to a second object to be put on the next sheet if required. I currently spend a crazy amount of time reorganizing my note pages - like a puzzle - moving note sections around - trying to get them to fit. The smarter version would not create an object but rather create a sheet with your title block - but for now, an object would do. I am thinking of moving our general notes to Indesign - and then exporting PDFs back into VW because I can not take this anymore. I have one section of notes that too long for the page - literally no fix expect to break it up.
  12. Well, its a drawing lable in the viewport annotations for a viewport that is being generated by the interior elevation tool. I use the OIP to change the number.
  13. @fabrica Is this connected on an interior elevation tag?
  14. When I need to change an interior elevation drawing number - especially if it is a number that is already assigned it takes FOREVER... well not forever - on average 32 seconds - which might as well be forever if I need to renumber al drawings on a page. The auto coordination feature is amazing - but it loses most of the utility if takes me a full quarter-hour just to renumber the Viewports on a single page. Look into this. Maybe there is a way - kind of like worksheets - where these changes are cached - and then pushed around at a more convenient/efficient time? Or just look into why changing a 8 to a 1 would require that much thinking time.
  15. Have there been any updates to Project Sharing to allow for Google File Stream? Google no longer allows the old google drive sync for business accounts. About a year ago we were told that Project Sharing does not work with File Stream - but I was hoping there might be more news on this front.
  16. Since Google Drive sunsetted its old sharing protocol for businesses, we really need project sharing support for the new Google File Stream.
  17. Currently, the Symbol Options is only available if you select the symbol from the Resource Browser. This option should also be available (as all other symbol options currently are) from the object's right-click menu.
  18. Please contact me at tom@kda.nyc if you have a licence for sale. Thanks! Tom
  19. It docks on the top or bottom - but not in line with the other pallets - it take up its own row at the top - shrinking the screen - and has a completely unique docking behaviour. It's like they forgot to upgrade the docking pallet with the others.
  20. Why can I not dock the snapping pallet like other pallets? What it the purpose of treating this one pallet differently?
  21. I am working on an office layout - and that 3-5 seconds I mentioned is a gross underestimation. I am seeing 10-20 second delays. The only saving grace is we use the data tool for room tags, so we no longer have to edit the space to edit the space name, or change the tag style.
  22. There are a few times where we want to use it because it helps with scheduling, space names, and room size charts - but it is sooo laggy it makes me nuts. Compared to a door or window that has 100s of options, built in 3D components and standard textures and nested classes - it seems like it should be a pretty simple object. I think it is somehow just coded really inefficiently - it also is an object that leads to crashes.
  23. The space tool and VW do not seem to get along. Why does it take forever for the tool to even activate - it's a good 3-5 seconds after clicking on the space tool before VW is ready to start drawing one. Changing the attributes, even if it is just a fill colour - takes forever. Why? For all the cool things VW can do - why does the space tool give it so much trouble?
  24. @James H. That is straight out of Lumion. They have a rendering filter that adds a more camera accurate flare - but this is not that. They have some live flare effect - that causes this even when you are walking around the model. I love it - my partner thinks it is annoying.
  25. @Kevin Allen A mix, though mostly assigned in Lumion - as you can see in the VWX model - we used colours to distinguish textures then assigned them in Lumion. We though the texture library would be slightly better than it is in Lumion, which is why we did it that way. But this is not how I would do it moving forward. Lumion is very good at bringing the Diffuse map in, and so it is better to create the texture in VW, then modify the gloss, reflectivity in Lumion, rather than creating it from scratch in Lumion. There are no lights other the skylight in Lumion. That is one of my favourite things so far - is that it is REALLY easy to get nice daylight. We have not gotten into placing lights in the Lumion model for night and evening shots yet.
