  1. I'll ask again... "How can one avoid this problem without upgrading to VW11?"
  2. Bruce, How can one avoid this problem without upgrading to VW11? We are testing VW11, but we won't be upgrading the office for some time. It may have happened only once, but I don't want to depend on our backup to prevent these problems. thanks
  3. I don't still have the file, but we had the same issue on one of our drawings, the only thing to add was that as you clicked on the door it would disappear and the wall would extend to some arbitrary angle and length. Fortunately we had a current backup so we deleted it and moved on. That was on VWA 10.1.2 and Mac OSX.2.8 on a 1.8 G5
  4. Is this an indirect answer to my question? VW 11 View preferences thanks
  5. In Vectorworks preferences there are settings for both Hardware Accelerated 2D Navigation Use VectorCaching for faster drawing I watched the popup info on these items, I am currently working on a G4 that hase a Radeon 9000 w/64 MB VRAM and hase 1.5 GB Physical RAM So I have plenty of available RAM for VectorCaching & have a decent video card for Open GL performance. Is there any reason to choose one over the other? Will there be any interference between the two if they are both on? any help is appreciated.
  6. The other key that exits you from a text block and accepts what you entered is the Escape key. ?If you are a right hand mouser like I am, you don't have to travel over the keyboard. HTH [ 05-16-2004, 11:33 PM: Message edited by: ionw ]
  7. I have done this as well ?had a double click response to a ctrl click. The problem is the unneeded selection click. if you click on an object once without a modifier and then immediately afterwards with the ctrl key modifier pressed the system takes it as a double click. The solution is rather simple, do not click once to select the object and then right (or ctrl) click again to do the operation. All you need to do is directly right-click or ctrl click on the object you want to perform an operation on. If you do this you will have two benefits, one you'll save the time you now spend clicking to select your object (trivial amounts) and two you'll save time because you still have the double click edit feature. I would hate to go back to the old days of having to use a key command to edit objects, that feature alone saves me minutes every single day. Hope this solves you problem [ 05-14-2004, 08:15 PM: Message edited by: ionw ]
  8. Katie we have been seeing a bit of this in VWA10.5.1 I think I have narrowed it down to people using the red close button on the window and then responding yes to the save changes button that comes up. If they save using the menu command or Cmd-S and then close the document life seems good. Enough time has not gone by to definitively say this is the case, I came about this diagnosis because the working files were always corrupting and the automatic backups were still good. Also the user that was having this problem is paranoid about the printing bug so always makes duplicates of her files before printing them so I knew it wasn't anything to do with the printing bug.
  9. It is printed to a HP 800PS. When he printed it was at the page level view and the vertex was easily within the drawing screen. thanks
  10. One of my users has been having intermittent problems with VW 9.5.3 showing infinite extensions off of arcs when printed. This does not show on screen. I have isolated the problem down to having a arc in very close proximity (.00001) but not touching. Once you connect the two it prints normally. The following sequence of tools are usually used prior to this: two lines are drawn a fillet joins them. a line is added and the menu command for Join or trim is used. the infinite arcs and extensions appear and if you check the proximity one of the lines is very close but not touching the arc. I don't know what this information tells you, I am going to try to get my user to change slightly how he draws, but need to tread lightly as his name is on the door...if you know what I mean and I think you do.
  11. Yah, I noticed that. I was just a wishin' and a hoping! thanks
  12. Hi Katie, The keyboard assignment improvement is a great help. What through me was in the what's new part of the manual Workspace Editor legacy item identification Legacy tools and commands are now grouped together within a Legacy folder for easier identification Along with the verbage in the Appendix for customizing made it sound like the obsolete commands were somehow identified. For me it isn't a big deal, I only have 10 or 15 custom tools to add and about the same in key assignments. The 14 people I support however have made very elaborate workspaces, so I can hear the groaning and complaining already! thanks
  13. One of the tools that excited me about VW 11 was the claim to help identify legacy commands in the workspace editor. I dutifully followed the steps in the manual, and was happy to see some commands added into my workspace, but there wasn't any identification other than the normal failure when you try to save with missing plugins etc. Any help?
  14. I may have started this thread a year ago, but the need is still just as pressing.
  15. We have one machine that is randomly experiencing this issue too. a 733 Mhz g4/10.3.3 VWA 10.5.1. I can boot the machine have nothing but the finder running, and continually launch and quit from VW ?not opening a document other than the automatic blank sheet VW opens on it's own?and 3 times out of five it takes about this long to quit. I've repaired permissions, did a archive and install WITHOUT remembering netork settings and permisions, combo installer to 10.3.3, clean install from VWA CDs for 10.1.2 followed by updaters. I've tried default workspaces, custom workspaces no custom plugins, our standard array of custom plugins, all with the same behavior.
  16. You of course have excellent points, and I also use the rectangle solution as well [i've added the clip/add commands to the contextual menus for easy access] This project was one of the few that it would have been easier the other way 'round. I forgot that you have been a large proponent of keyboard macro utilities, and remapping the numeric keypad is an excelllent idea. I use the ability to do math in data entry boxes often and as you point out it would work here, just a question of is it easier to reorient your hand to get the foot marker, or to hit four keys to achieve the same result '*' '1' '2' '+' Thanks for your input here, and I appreciate the time and energy you put to the rest of the boards.
  17. Hey Bruce, Did you see the part in my post about the Combine into surface? It will give you the same net result as what you are attempting with clip surface. HTH
  18. Thanks for your reply, and maybe I'm a bit slow, but it seems to me you've actually highlighted what I am complaining about. I want to do the action you are describing, say 13 times to define a plan without using the mouse (button or otherwise) except the beginning and possibly the end. I want to do this: 1. click with the mouse and start dragging (I'm a clk-clk person) to start my polygon(line) 2. hit either numeric enter or the tab key to go into data entry mode. 3. Enter in the length and angle (or delta x,y) values to define segment one. hitting numeric enter to accept each value. 4. now that the segement is fully defined instead of clicking the mouse to end segment one and start entering values for segment two...I want a keyboard command that is "equivilant" to the mouse click, so that once I start using the keyboard I don't have to take my hands off it. [i seem to remember from the boards that you are a left hand mouse user saving your dominant hand for the keyboard so this might not bother you as it does me] While I am at this it would be nice to use a space to differentiate betwixt feet & inches. thanks
  19. This isn't something that happens often, but the other day we were handed a sketch of a house plan w/ dimensions and we needed to input it to start working drawings. To start laying out I thought to use the polygon to make the exterior foot print, use the Walls from Polygon tool and go from there. The problem I found is there seems to be no way to do true keyboard entry. Using the mouse and the data display bar allows one to do relative movements (i.e. move 12' @ -90? from there move 14' @ 0? and so on) but one has to click the mouse at each vertex. Using the Create polygon (dbl clk on the palette tool) would allow one to not touch the mouse, but instead of specifying a starting point and then adding vertices relative to that starting point ( see i.e. last paragraph). I don't really want to turn the sketch into a grid to figure out the actual grid points of the vertices. I see two possibly easy fixes: When using the data display bar have one enter accept the value and another (say Cmd-Enter) set the vertex and start you on the next point. In the Create Polygon tool have one option for real coordinates and another for relative. thanks
  20. I was curious about this as I use clip surface often. On my powerbook g4 1Ghz w/512Mb RAM it crashed VWA 10.5.1 on our PowerMac G5 dual 2Ghz w/ 2gb RAM this operation worked but it took 7 minutes and consumed over a Gb of RAM by the end of the operation. Interestingly if I took the same array and instead used Combine Into Surface the operation succeeded on the powerbook and only took 10 or 15 seconds. Oh yeah repaired permissions on both first Katie...
  21. I just ran into the problem of not being able to paste an object with a dash style into a new document, and have it maintain the dash style from the originating document. It didn't even take the style number in the new document, it simply turned it solid. The object is different in each of 14 drawings, but the dash style I want to remain the same. Is there any way to bring a dash style in? For better or worse it takes a bit of time to replicate the dash style I came up with, so doing it 14 times today doesn't sound like any fun. thanks
  22. I would like toi have a way of verifying files before putting them away for the night. We have users on both 9.5.3 and 10.1.2 (10.5.1 is getting reports of slowness from our staff) We are getting corrupted files tooo often. Everybody knows not to close drawings while printing, not to save drawings at a printing percentage that is not 100%. We are all on Macs mostly on 10.2.8, with a 10.2.8 Xserve as our file server. VW obviously does some sort of verification routine upon opening a file, I just want access to the same thing upon closing, hopefully as it was being written, so that I can isolate the source of the corruption problem. The backups help, but I'd rather not see any corrupted files. thanks
  23. 24 hours two different computers, VWA 10.5 no problems
  24. Is this a reproduceable bug for anyone else? I've done it on 3 machines now. I use Keyboard entry often, and I do use an arc or two.... thanks
  25. I just realized that the data display bar, that displays coordinates until a tool is active, at which point it switches from coordinate to delta "mode" works properly for line, but for arc it does not switch to delta "mode."
