Hello I'm working on a project which requires native DWG support - so I am having to invest in AutoCAD LT for Mac (once I've worked out how to buy it here in the UK - it's only available on the US App store for some reason). I'm not looking forward to learning AutoCAD after all these years of Vectorworks, but I must say I am very impressed with the user interface / scrolling smoothness etc. Makes VW UI look and feel archaic by comparison. Anyone else tried it?? Andrew

That is interesting. Doesn't sound like very many!! Anyone know how that compares to rival software? Is the user base increasing or declining? I'd be interested to know! Andrew

It's a joke - it really is. Just read my post of 9 months ago when using VW2011. The Keynote reformatting issue is STILL an issue. Why is VW so buggy? It's crazy. If I hadn't invested so heavily in time and money I would have moved on by now. The only workaround is to double click the Keynote itself (not the legend). Why can't Nemetschek just fix this?????????

Hello Is it just me or is anyone else getting fed up with crashes / slow performance of Vectorworks? I have a Dual Core Mac with 8GB RAM - just switching between sheet layers takes an age (once I've added a seating layout). I also get 1 or 2 crashes a day. Far too many for a piece of software this expensive.

I have a lot of hybrid objects which only look nice in the unshaded poly mode of a viewport. Yet this creates a HUGE PDF file. I opened in Adobe Acrobat, saved as a reduced size PDF, and it made the file even bigger!!! Any other ideas??

Hello - I have a 2D viewport which I am rendering using the Unshaded polygon setting. As some of the objects are drawn in 3D, they don't look good in Wireframe. However, the file size of an exported PDF is huge (approx 14MB as opposed to a wireframe version which is about 0.5MB) Does anyone have any suggestions for either : a) reducing the exported file size of a viewport rendered as an Unshaded Poly b) allowing wireframe to apply a fill to a 3d object. Any help much appreciated. Regards, Andrew

Thanks Bob- Nemetschek need to get their finger out. This is supposed to be high end software! Now that AutoCAD is on the Mac - I will seriously consider moving.

I have still the Keynote reformatting issue - driving me nuts. This software is feeling very old & buggy now - especially when you compare it to the competition. And I am on VW2011 SP3 (Mac) Andrew

Ha! I see that thread started 4 years ago so I am rather late to the party! Also sounds unlikely it would be adopted? Boo hoo. Does anyone know what the AutoCAD for Mac UI is like? I suspect it's unified?

Hello - I would so like to see a unified workspace (if that is what you call it), so that all tool bars, drawing areas are held within the same area. I work a lot with Aperture, an it is like a breath of fresh air. So many times I come back to Vectorworks and have to spend a few minutes moving toolbars around that have been hidden behind windows etc. Please Nemetschek. Surely we are due an upgrade that is a bit more radical. The VW UI hasn't been updated for YEARS!

Hi Pat & Michael - I did a work around which was just to add a Rev record format to a title block. As long as I remember to update this when I update revisions it works fine. Would love to get it seamless - would I be able to get hold of the "magic script" ??! Thanks Andrew

Got it working ! Took a bit of fiddling but I'm there no. No revision data shown in the list - that's a step too far for now, but thanks so much for your help ! Will come back to the revision data at a later date - entering it manually for now. Thanks again, Andrew

I wrote this post during an extremely frustrating day full of crashes and looming deadlines - so may have been a tad harsh. But I still don't understand why, when editing a Viewport, Vectorworks can't automatically make the viewport crop object editable regardless of which class it is set to. All too often, particularly when I was just starting out, i would get that dreaded "a viewport can only have one viewport crop object" message (obviously) when the viewport crop is invisible and not selectable (because the crop object's class is either switched off / not editable or because the viewport it's self is set not to show that particular class and I'm trying to crop a VP. It's ok if you're disciplined enough to always put a crop object on the same class, or the none class so you can make sure it is visible etc - but I am not like that or usually rushing. How about if crop objects were always put into their own class like dimensions ?

Many thanks Michael Am hoping I can do this without Architect - so will investigate Speadsheetz / reports. Should be quite a simple thing really - just want a list of all drawings along with - title - latest revision letter & description if possible - date I have all this information in the title block so may be able to reference it somehow. Hi - Am using VW2010 with Spotlight and Renderworks. I have a drawing with approx 20 Sheet layers - some with several viewports. Is there a way of automatically creating a list of drawing sheets with their latest revision numbers etc ? A drawing schedule I would call it but not sure if that's the proper name. Thanks, Andrew

Hello - So another frustrating day with the unintuitive VW has just got off on the wrong foot again. Couldn't work out why textures / decals (now that VW has stopped crashing because my decal textures were 1MB) were not rendering in Fast Renderworks mode. They were showing as white solids. Turned off Unified View and hey presto. Another weird quirk of VW to add to the list. Why is this ? Does anyone know ? Or am I doing something wrong ? What's another half an hour fiddling through the options between friends anyway. Andrew

It's ridiculous that just editing a viewport crop can be so tedious in VW. Surely - if you want to edit the viewport crop, and you can obviously only have ONE viewport crop object. VW should just simply make that crop object editable. Nemetschek really need to work on the usablilty of VW. They are getting left behind. The UI is shambolic - hasn't been updated in years
