Importing a DXF files

Recommended Posts

When I import DXF files, it seems that anotations always appear very long. When I zoom in it looks fine. If I want to take a detail of something and copy it to another vectorworks doc. it is almost impossible to get to get to copy all of the text. I have the VW11.

Is there something i can do to make this easier.

Thanks

I experienced the same thing. Even though it looks fine when you zoom in, I beg the length of that text block is far far away from the starting point. And this causes the text appearing very long when zoom out. You can mannually readjust the length by click and dragging the triangle at the end of text block until they(VW) fix this bug.

I don't think this is a bug.

Text blocks are imported with the same bounds as is in the DXF/DWG file. It sounds like the file originator made very long lines, only some of which are filled with text, probably to ensure that the line did not wrap. The better way to do that in AutoCAD is to give the block a width of 0, which tells it to not wrap. It looks like in the latest version of AutoCAD they've taken away the interface to do in the text editor, but you can select the text and change the width in the properties pane.

They may also have been using a very wide font, which could have mapped to a narrow font on import.

In VectorWorks, instead of adjusting the right side of each text block, just select all text blocks with the problem and uncheck the "Wrap Text" box in the object info palette.
