PDF Image Missing

I'm trying to trace information from a scanned pdf.  I import the PDF into VW and can see the image.  I work with it for a few minutes and then the image disappears.  The PDF file is still loaded and I can see its outline but there is no image.  I've tried saving, shutting down and restarting.  Sometimes the image re-appears but generally the image will not appear.  I've tried turning the PDF's "fill" and "pen" settings on and off. No effect.

 

Any suggestions to get the PDF image to appear?

Are you on a network? or just a desktop machine?

Are you importing the file or referencing the file?

For either of above could be some weird network prob.

 

If you're just manually tracing items in the pdf, you might be better off converting/saving pdf to a jpg and importing that.

Thanks for the advice!  I'm just working locally, not on a network.  I've been "importing" the pdf but I'll try the JPG approach.

I also find I get odd issues/effects if I'm in a rotate view or have ended up with mix of object in screen and layer plane like here
