Andrew Mac
I am trying to apply a horizontal hatch to a wall, making it look like siding. How do I achieve that horizontal look when I want to view the wall(house) let say in 3-d right isometric view? Is this possible or are hatches only 2-d? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted May 20, 2003 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted May 20, 2003 Hatches are only 2D attributes. If you have RenderWorks you can apply a siding texture in 3D that will show up in OpenGL or RenderWorks render mode. Quote Link to comment
Andrew Mac
Thank you- But what I was hoping was to get an effect of stong horizontal lines with no color and the current siding in the resources only have faint lines and you really can't see them whjen you set the scale to 1/8" Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted May 20, 2003 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted May 20, 2003 You can do this if you have RenderWorks. Draw your lines, export them as a pict or jpg, then create an image based texture and re-import them. You'll have to do some experimentation to get it just the way you want. Quote Link to comment
Danielj1
You can also (and this is a crude-but-often-effective method) draw the lines in VW, and then switch to Front view and convert them to 3-D polys. They will have zero depth, but will be viewable in perspectives, renderings, etc., and you could put them right next to the walls to be rendered (as in 1/4" in front). Dan J. Quote Link to comment
Guest
If you only need the hatches for an elevation view, use Convert Copy to Polygons once you have your link set to the view you want. That will copy your drawing and convert everything to polygons - 2d objects. You can then hatch the polygons you want hatched and go forward from there. The original 3d objects will remain intact.
