Marshall Wright
I setup a template and in that template I deleted a number of plant "generic" catelog selections that I felt I would never use, e.g. palms. Two questions. First. I'd like to put some of the generic ID codes back in but don't know what they are. Is there a list of IDs somewhere that I can review to determine that STSL is Shade Tree Street Large? Second. When placing plants, I select from the reduced list of plants that I have left in my plant catelog. I place three trees, all large "undefined" deciduous trees. All three use the same undefined plant ID. Later I go back and define them as three different types of deciduous trees. Do I have to create two new defined plant catelog selections to complete this task? Set up STSL1, STSL2, and so forth? Quote Link to comment

These are used for "generic" plants, i.e. plants that may be replaced with a specific plant (i.e. particular Latin name). For specific plants, if you create them in the Create Plant dialog using the Plant Reference data, the ID (short name identifier) of the plant will default to GGss-# where G is first or second letter of genus and s is first or second letter of species. So a red maple (Acer rubrum) becomes ACru-#. You can use the number sign to represent caliper size, etc. Anyway, here's the list of generics created by VWL 10.5: STGL Shade Tree Generic Large STGM Shade Tree Generic Medium STGS Shade Tree Generic Small STSL Shade Tree Street Large STSM Shade Tree Street Medium STSS Shade Tree Street Small STPL Shade Tree Patio Large STPM Shade Tree Patio Medium STPS Shade Tree Patio Small STDL Shade Tree Display Large STDM Shade Tree Display Medium STDS Shade Tree Display Small OTGL Ornamental Tree Generic Large OTGM Ornamental Tree Generic Medium OTGS Ornamental Tree Generic Small OTFL Ornamental Tree Flowering Large OTFM Ornamental Tree Flowering Medium OTFS Ornamental Tree Flowering Small OTDL Ornamental Tree Display Large OTDM Ornamental Tree Display Medium OTDS Ornamental Tree Display Small OTML Ornamental Tree Multi-Stem Large OTMM Ornamental Tree Multi-Stem Medium OTMS Ornamental Tree Multi-Stem Small OTPL Ornamental Tree Patio Large OTPM Ornamental Tree Patio Medium OTPS Ornamental Tree Patio Small ETGL Evergreen Tree Generic Large ETGM Evergreen Tree Generic Medium ETGS Evergreen Tree Generic Small ETDL Evergreen Tree Display Large ETDM Evergreen Tree Display Medium ETDS Evergreen Tree Display Small CTGL Conifer Tree Generic Large CTGM Conifer Tree Generic Medium CTGS Conifer Tree Generic Small CTDL Conifer Tree Display Large CTDM Conifer Tree Display Medium CTDS Conifer Tree Display Small SGL Shrub Generic Large SGM Shrub Generic Medium SGS Shrub Generic Small SGD Shrub Generic Dwarf SEL Shrub Evergreen Large SEM Shrub Evergreen Medium SES Shrub Evergreen Small SED Shrub Evergreen Dwarf SDL Shrub Deciduous Large SDM Shrub Deciduous Medium SDS Shrub Deciduous Small SDD Shrub Deciduous Dwarf SNL Shrub Needle Large SNM Shrub Needle Medium SNS Shrub Needle Small SND Shrub Needle Dwarf SDL-1 Shrub Display Large SDM-1 Shrub Display Medium SDS-1 Shrub Display Small SDD-1 Shrub Display Dwarf GG Grasses Generic GL Grasses Large GM Grasses Medium GS Grasses Small GD Grasses Dwarf PG Palms Generic PL Palms Large PM Palms Medium PS Palms Small A1 Annuals 1 A2 Annuals 2 A3 Annuals 3 A4 Annuals 4 A5 Annuals 5 P1 Perennials 1 P2 Perennials 2 P3 Perennials 3 P4 Perennials 4 P5 Perennials 5 P6 Perennials 6 P7 Perennials 7 P8 Perennials 8 P9 Perennials 9 Answer 2: I'm not sure I understand your question. Basically, you can use the Plant tool (click on an existing plant) to change the plant type of any plant placement. You can use any plants that you have defined in your document. These plants can be the default "generic" plants above, or a specific plant that you've defined with the Edit Plant Catalog command, or a plant that you've imported from another document.
