Nymus
A few weeks ago I got hold of vectorworks 10 Professional. My goal was to continue my work at home. The first time I opened one of my files created at school (architecture) I received an error stating that I couldn't open files saved in the school edition with my professional edition. Is there any solution known for this issue? It looks kind of weird to me that a Pro edition can't read school edition files. The other way around would have made more sense to me. Anyone out there that can help solve this? Add-ins, updates, converting programs you name it. Thanks in advance Nymus [ 11-23-2004, 03:00 PM: Message edited by: Nymus ] Quote Link to comment
Guest
Did you switch between a mac and pc ? Is the file you want to open being opened from off a CD? What would be really helpful is the message you get when you try to open the file. There are no issues between opening files in edu and pro versions - it's essentially the same exact program. Nymus
Thanks for your fast reply. The file is being opened from a memory stick. So usb flash memory. The error says something like: This file can not be opened with the professional edition as it was saved with the school edition. Which gives you an OK button. By clicking on it, Vectorworks shuts down. Both are pc so no mac vs pc incompatibility. Thx Quote Link to comment
Guest
That's wierd. Are they the same version of VW ? What happens if you drag the file from off the mem stick to the desktop and then open the file on the desktop? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted November 24, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 24, 2004 Are you using a US version? Quote Link to comment
Nymus
- This file was saved in a school edition of vectorworks. Files saved in the school edition cannot be opened in the prof version. - Version 10.0 - How do I know if it is an US version? It was bought in Belgium if that's an answer to your question. Running the file from local disk instead of memory key results in the same error. Thanks for your help Quote Link to comment
Guest
What version is the pro version? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted November 29, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 29, 2004 Check directly with the Belgium distributor. Some distributors do have a seperate file format for educational versions. The US version uses the same file format to professional and educational versions. Quote Link to comment

Nymus
Do you know where i can find this distributor? Can you post his directions? Thx Nymus Quote Link to comment
Nymus
The exact version as found in the vw.exe file properties is v10, 0, 0, 13282. The problem described above hasn't been solved yet. Strange thing is that i seem to be able to open my pro version files in the student version but not vice versa. Still no programs available to resolve this issue? Quote Link to comment
Guest
You will need to contact your distributor regarding this. Quote Link to comment
