Line colour changing during edit

Lately I have been seen some unusual line color behavior. When I edit a polygon or polyline, or add/clip surface the line color often changes to a navy blue from black.

When you select the line, the attributes pallet shows it as black but in fact its blue. If you then change the color (in the attributes pallet) to black, even though it is already shown as the line color, it reverts to black.

ps line was set to class style in the attributes pallet prior to edit or add surface
