Sandwiching objects

We often need to move many objects so that they are touching each other. We then spread them apart by specific lengths. Does anyone know of a plugin or tool of any kind to do this without dragging or Moving each individual object against the next?

Not sure if this might help, but you could use the Align Objects Command, align the objects both vertically and horizontally with the "Center" buttons set, and that would stack all the centers of the objects on top of each other.

You could then move one object to a distance the total of the separation lengths, then Align objects again, but choose Distribute with the "Spacing" button set.

Of course, this would only work for equally spaced objects, and you would have to do the math to figure the total separation length so the spacing between the objects would come out right after they are distributed.

The move by points tool may help you out G Donald....check it out there are a number of options from just moving a specified object to duplicating a given number within a line as well as duplicating a given number by a specified distance. This tool was pointed out to me after years of not seeing it.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are aware of both of those tools/commands. Hoping for something that moves several objects so that the sides touch, one after another. Usually the objects we do this with would be different sizes.
