Different rendering results using Viewports vs Section Viewports

I'm getting different rendering results when using Viewports vs Section Viewports for elevations, despite having exactly the same Renderworks/lighting/heliodon settings.

Does anyone know the technical reason for this?

In particular the lighting is different. In the attached example the Viewport has deeper contrasts than the Section Viewport.

The other issue is the way planar objects are being rendered in the Section Viewport. In the Viewport they're fine but in the Section Viewport you can see that some grey wall object is showing through the horizontal cladding panels (3D rectangles) towards the top of the wall.
