How safe are recovered damaged files?

Recommended Posts

I have some VW9 files that give me the message that they are damaged and open as .recover.mcd files. As far as I can tell, the only thing wrong with them is that the list of saved sheets is lost (the sheets are still listed, but don't do anything). Any idea how safe it is to continue using the recovered files? Am I likely to continue to find new problems? And how did this happen? They were fine the last time I saved them.

We've encountered this before, and it is usually a bad thing to continue working in the recovered file. For whatever reason its probably corrupted. When this has happened, we go back to the previous saved version of the file (if v202 is recovered, than go back to v201), copy the good stuff from the recovered file, and start anew. Good luck...
