OpenGL rending not retained during rotation

I have created two very simple files. One is a simple box on a single layer. When render with OpenGL and rotate the model the OpenGL rendering is retained. In the second file I have two layers. On each layer I create a simple box. I then add a third model layer and link to the other two layers. In this file the OpenGL rendered model is never retained when I rotate even though I have set retain OpneGL model to always.

I am running VW 11.0.1 on a Mac Powerbook 1.5GHZ with 1.5 GB ram on OSX 10.3.6.
