how to make Section of a Lightplot

Hallo,

I did some drawings for a upcoming Concert, where I wanted to do the Paperwork for the Technicians and to check the Look of the Stage.

I ended (for the Moment ) with (for a Lightplot) not very complex Plan.

On Top, or better arround that Plan I have modeled some Parts of the House Maschinery, as it is an

Industrial Memorial with a special Look.

I didn't tak long, and I got some acceptable Renederings, even in OpenGL with resolution set to Medium.

During the Cration of the paperwork, Plans, Sections I ran into some Problems which I don't know how to solve.

1rst: The Section.

The first Step was a Sideview in Wireframe. Well. worked. But the resulting pdf is 9.3MB, and doesn't look nice.

Then after a lucky day of Vectorworking with no uexpected Probelms I became brave and tried a Section Viewport along the Centerline of the Stage.... :-(

After the Message, "not enough Memory ..." most of my Model was gone or ivisible.

I quit Vectorworks without saving and started it again and my Model was back.

But: The filesize was exploded from 58MB to 120MB. ????

Any Idea why?

Is there a smart way (without destroing the work) to do a Section of a more Complex Plan?

Lucky me I had backuped the File before I staretd the "Section Viewport Adventure".

I was not brave enough to try a hidden Line rendering of a Viewport, after my last Experience with a simple fence where I received more than 300.000 invisible Polygons instead of a few lines...

2nd: Symbols destroied by unrotating Components.

After I edited I annotations in a 2d Viewport, I found some Patrts of a Symbol where unrotated.

This Thing is really driving me up the walls.

Does anybody know if this nice little feature for people with a lot of time to waste ships with VW2011?

I attach some images that you can get an Idea of what I'm talking about.

Horst,

Do you have Save Viewport Cache turned on in the Document Preferences? Although it means you don't have to re-render viewports after loading a file, it certainly does increase your file size.

It also looks like you may be using the Human Figure tool to generate your figures. If you are, I would class them so you can turn them off in the section viewport. I have had files slow down considerably whenever they are used.

If you're only interested in the geometry along the section line, you could limit your section under Advanced Properties in the Object Info Palette. You can also change your 3D Conversion Resolution there as well, which could help your memory issues.

Thanks Vincent,

The tipp with the human was great.

My problem was that I couldn't Edit the Section Line Viewports Preferences,

because the programm was "terminated" as described above, before the Section Line Vieports OIP came up.

I got it done, after I first did the Section line Viewport with all the Clases that contain complex geometry switched of.

Then I edited the SLVP's Preferences...

When I have all the Lights in the Rigg and an on the Floor switched on, the Programm still crashes, even with the Humans switched of, and the 3d res,. set to Low.

I have to live with the Sideview in Wirframe.

Not nice, but it has do the job, as it still shows what I need to communicate,
