Go to MODEL >> 3D POWER PACK >> Create Drape Surface...

You must have what you want "draped" picked before running the command

Could someone do a screen capture and voice capture while putting a draped surface on this file. On windows you can download "Windows Media Encoder Series 9" to do this. Because it is a wmv file you would have to upload it to youtube and then provide the url under this topic. If you are using a Mac I'm not sure whether you can create a file that can be posted to this forum. You may have to go the youtube route. Thanks!

Wes if you could do this I'll send you a brand new copy of finehomebuilding 123 that has this particular house in it. It's a beautiful house. Just provide me with your home address. Could you also show me how you created the shingles on your example. I'm having trouble selecting the surface on my roof. Thanks!

Ray can you open the file I have posted and tell me how to select the eyebrow dormer and the roof face. The roof is a solid subtraction. When I click on it it selects all the roof faces.

Clicked on it. I'm just not understanding the problem. Take a screen shot and import into Vectorworks, point an arrow with an explanation of exactly what the problem is.

When I select the roof the sides, the top,and the underside get selected. No matter what I click on I cannot get only the top selected. If you have an email address I'll send you a wmv screen capture of what I mean. Thanks for your help. I've tried to put a drape surface on the roof but no matter what I do only part of the roof takes the texture.

If you are talking about the main roof you cannot select just the face because it is a solid, one piece. Convert it to nurbs (it will now be a group, either enter the group or ungroup it) and you will be able to assign separate textures.

Can somebody tell me why the roof of my eyebrow dormer will not accept textures. The vectorworks file is at the top of this topic.I looked in the manual but could not find anything related to this.

Ray could explain to me or send me a screen capture video of how you did this. Just download Windows Media Encoder Series 9.I'll send you a new copy of finehomebuilding 123 that has an article about this beautiful one and one half story house. Pando can be used to send large files. Attach a monetary value and I'll send you a check as well to cover your hourly rate. This will influence my purchasing of Vectorworks and Interiorcad. Just provide me with your address. I don,t own Vectorworks 2009 but am using th demo version to see if it will do what I want. My trial demo is good for another eight days. Did you leave the main roof and the dormer as solids. Thanks!

It's really simple. Select which part you want the texture applied to and apply it by either double clicking on the texture in the resource browser or the pull down menu in the Render tab of the Object Info Palette.

I didn't change anything in the file.

Thanks Ray. I was dragging and dropping the texture onto the object and this was not working. I also found that once you applied the textures and rendered, you needed to click on the workplace for everything to render. Now how would one go about changing the texture on the gable ends as well as the eves. Send me your mailing address to my mailbox or to bkjernisted@kmts.ca and I'll have an issue of finehomebuilding 123 sent to you. Thanks again.
