draped surface

Why would I not be able to get the gables and the walls to be the same color. Should I have added shingles to the walls first since the gables had shingles. What can I try to get these 2 to be the same color. Thanks!

Because you have a different texture on the wall. With the wall selected, pull down the "Part" menu. Choose Left (which is the outside of this wall) and set the texture there.

Thanks for that advice Ray it worked perfectly. Another problem I'm having is selecting the top surface of the rear half of the roof. The front surface worked perfectly when I converted the roof to nurbs but the back half did not. Here is the file and the Right Rear Isometric view of the roof.

You're probably not selecting the face you need because it's back in the stacking order and clicking on any edge selects another object. Click on the ridge and the front roof will be selected, now send the front roof back in the stacking order (Modify menu>Send>Send to Back) Now click on the ridge again and the rear roof face will be selected, apply your texture.

Ray this worked to place textures on the rear roof but now the textures on the front of the roof are missing. I looked in the manual to see if I could find a solution for this but I could not find one.

The problem is you had multiple instances of both roof faces, some of them in a group. I deleted all but one of each.

Ray how did you see the multiple instances of both roof faces. What did you have to do to get rid of them. I'll look in the manual and see if I can figure this out but if you can tell me this will be the last of my questions until I purchase Vectorworks 2009 and Interiorcad in a couple of months. At that time I'll get some training dvd's and read the manual. For now my goal was to be able to create the eyebrow dormer and the roof faces. Send me an email and tell me what I owe you.

I just selected them and deleted, moving objects back in the stacking order to select what I wanted. I have sent you the model with the walls and roof done correctly. The wall and gable end are one piece, the roofs are roof objects. Double click on the roof with the dormer in plan view to see how I cut the hole.

Ray I tried doing what you said. For instance I went back 3 times and deleted what I thought was a duplicate face and the front face lost it's textures. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm going to send you an email. Thanks!

Funny things happen in renderings with duplicates. Don't worry about the texture until you have deleted all the duplicates. When you delete the last one and none are there, undo so the last delete comes back. Watch the Object Info Palette and when you select a group, ungroup it.

Ray I managed to get it to work. How do you make the end gable and the wall into one piece and why is this the correct way. Do they talk about this in the manual. I ungrouped everything, chose the top half of the front roof, right clicked to keep it chosen, right clicked on the texture in the resource pallette and left clicked apply.

This is my final file of the eyebrow dormer. The textures were applied by selecting the objects and then left clicking on the texture and right clicking on apply. Draped surfaces were not used. I'd like to thank everyone on the forum who has helped me.This has helped me make my decision to buy Vectorworks 2009. I'd especially like to thank Ray Libby who was there right to the end.
