Polygon Modeling nightmare

Hello all,

I have a model that has been sent to me a as a mesh. It has in the neighborhood of 600,000 polygons. It looks great after I take 3 hours to navigate around and see what I want.

Any ideas on how I may be able to reduce this and maintain the integrity of it? I realize there probably isn't really anything to be done, but doesn't hurt to ask.
