Is it possible to apply color to 2D face of a 3D object?

I'm building an architectural model in VW 2008 and need to apply 'paint' to various flat planes of 3D objects. Is this possible (as it is in SketchUp)? If so, how does one do it? Or, do I need to make very thin solids and 'glue' them on the surface of the larger solid?

Thanks in advance!

Individual faces of objects can not be given separate attributes.

If you aren't talking about walls, doors, windows or other hybrid objects. And you don't need to go back and edit them again, you can convert the objects to 3D poly's and you will get the surfaces you need to give separate attributes.

Or make a duplicate and convert that to 3D Polys. Just move each poly about 0.1mm "out" so that the surfaces don't overlap.

Or, if it is just a few places on large objects, use the Extract Tool to Extract the face and move it out by 0.1mm.
