Fit to objects not working

Fit to entire drawing is pretty useful, but it just doesn't work for me. Whatever layer I am, I click empty space and use the fit to objects button and absolutely nothing happens.

Try File>Select All

Then Fit to Objects

Fit to Objects needs to have one or more objects selected for it to work. (unless it's different in 2008)

When nothing is selected, fit to objects should move the drawing window to contain all visible objects, this is how it has been for many versions.

DBLand, what happens when you have one object selected?

Hey you're right! I've been doing the same keystrokes since version 9 or 10. Never noticed that Fit to Object works without an object selected.

Now I've got to retrain my fingers...

Well it works the way it should in Sheet layers but in design layers I need to do edit/select all then click the zoom to objects button. It works the way expected when an object is already selected.

I'll work around but it does seem right.

Try it on a new document. Create a new document, draw two rectangles, make sure nothing is selected, move the drawing window off the rectangles, click the fit to objects button.

Its the old problem that I used to get on AutoCAD but never on VW until I started 2008 this week. A corrupted file that starts behaving bizarrely.

Loads of other tools and functions stopped working and even more bizarrely VW seems to have created a parallel file system (i.e a copy of the server file system) in a hidden folder in my home folder. It all started when I autoconverted a VW11.5 file to 2008.

Does 2008 really work on Power pc macs?

Maybe this will help. I just imported an AutoCad drawing and it had an object hundreds of thousands of feet away from the page center. When I did fit to objects I was zoomed out so far it looked like there was nothing on the screen and when I did a select all I was so far out nothing showed.

I have been advised by N to install SP2.

Have done. It seems to be working now. I am familiar with the 'two objects miles apart' view. It wasn't that.
