graham75
I have to model a torch flame ala the statue of liberty, but just the flame part. I've never modeled something this organic in shape or asymmetrical... anyone have any tips or advice? thanks! Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Created with a single fractal shape: http://www.fractalnet.org/gallery2/v/Brane/ Quote Link to comment
MaxStudio
NURBS - check your Vectorworks Help file. they should be able to produce that object fairly quickly. Quote Link to comment

graham75
Thanks! I ended up starting with a NURBS sphere, stretching it and bending it to look like a single flame... then I scaled copies of it in different sizes and placed them all around the main flame. That is an over-simplification of what I ended up doing. Would've done the fractal thing, but I was modeling from an existing plaster cast that wasn't symmetrical at all. I downloaded the file though and I'll be sure to use it in future renderings! Thanks again! FYI: The end result of this project is to export it as a 3DS file to send to a company that will duplicate several copies of this model out of foam... replacing our current process of hand making plaster copies at $100 each.
