sweep & subtraction

Recommended Posts

i have not done this is a while. but i remember being able to do a sweep and then subtract from it. i could not do it yesterday.

this is what i have.

4" thick by 72" diameter sweep. it is a lid (loci in center and profile offset 1/4" for a 1/2" hole in center)

i have several 1/2" holes i want to cut in it. so i made the "dowels" 5" and made sure they intersected the lid. when i did a subtraction, the lid disappears and little pieces of the dowel are left.

this happened even though i selected the lid as the "object to be subtracted from"

i forgot to mention i did a revolve w/ rail and i could not get it to subtract at all.

which gave me the idea that revolve allows no type of subtraction.

what am i doing wrong?

also, i can not do a single segment because the lid has various cutouts. nothing can be mirrored.
