It shouldn't trim if the class is set to be grayed or invisible in the Classes dialog box.

I will add it to the wish list about the class options controlling the trim function as well.

Yes this is VW10.5, but I'm pretty sure this was the case in VW8 & VW9 as well.

I'm using a Mac, but I just tried it on one of our office's PCs and it is the same.

I'm talking about the trim tool in the Tool menu (or the Apple-T keyboard shortcut), not the trim tool on the 2D Tools palette.

It's the Trim COMMAND, not the Trim tool. An unfortunate name, and not just because of the confusion with the Trim tool -- the Trim command doesn't trim. It just cuts, or breaks, or slices through everything it intersects. And it had that same odd quirk in version 8 also, slicing even objects whose Class is greyed, invisible, or non-modifiable, albeit not objects whose Layer is greyed, invisible, or non-modifiable.
