Canadian & British WW1 Military History - Vimy Ridge

Recommended Posts

As things have slowed down, I thought this would be of interest to some, as stuff blows up.  Recently historical restoration and site modelling have been topics.

2017 was the 100th anniversary of the WW1 Battle of Vimy Ridge, the battle that broke the Germans back.

Synopsis,

A stalemate for 18 months had resulted in over 100,000 Allied casualties at Vimy Ridge, France circa 1916/1917.  In April 1917, 15,000 Canadian assault troops backed up by the largest artillery barrage seen to that point in time by the British, took Vimy Ridge in 24 hours.  Considered a coming of age for Canada.

in 2017 for the 100th anniversary, Vectorworks and CINEMA 4D were used to recreate five square miles of the Battlefield, ~120 miles of Allied and German trenching and a synopsis of the battle. The critical work done in Vectorworks.  All the military equipment of the period was reengineered in Vectorworks using material from Museums to historical news papers.    The project was given six weeks from start to finish.

Below is the eleven minute movie synopsis of the battle.  The map you will see first is the original battle map from 1917 and was used to recreate the topology 100 years later.
