  1. Try working through the Renderworks tutorial. There are some great tips in there if you are new to working with Renderworks. It is located at the below link towards the bottom of the page. Make sure you download the data files as well. http://www.nemetschek.net/training/free_resource.php
  2. Just wanted to give everyone an update. I did go ahead and purchase lion. I have been working on several residential projects as well as some pretty intense Renderworks renderings and I have not had any problems. VW has had no crashes and I have even tried opening some very large commercial projects from work (entire High School Campus) and still no crashes. It might be something that is machine specific that is causing crashes on others computer systems. I would look at the extensions and modules you are running in your version of VW. Look also at extensions or add-ons you are running in your OS. Sometimes I have found that 3rd-party extensions do conflict with other programs. I am not saying there aren't problems between Lion and VW, I just haven't experienced any yet. If I do come across any I will keep everyone up-to-date about what I find.
  3. Ok, I think I figured out a work around. I applied the stone texture through the OIP, but then went back into the class settings for the column and changed the column base to "column class" and changed the column shaft to a new class named "column-shaft." That seemed to do the trick (see attached). However, I still agree you Horst, that it is a bug and we should be able to change the way the textures are applied for the individual classes of an object, like you can for a 3D modeled object.
  4. Well, the problem is that it is a column object. If I go to the OIP when selecting that column I only get the following attached options. I have the texture applied to the base class in the classes section of the settings for the column. If I set the texture under the Render option on the OIP it applies the texture to the entire column and not just the base.
  5. I am having a problem with a texture rendering wrong. Can someone look at this screenshot and tell me what I need to do to fix it. I want the texture to show the stone all over the base and no just on the sides.
  6. I recently upgraded my graphics card to the ATI Radeon 5700 graphics card with 1gb of ram and I love it. It works great and have no problems with it. I running dual 21" monitors on it and have on more mini port to add a third monitor if I want to.
  7. I have upgraded to Lion and have had no problems so far. If I come across any i will post them to the forums.

    Lion?

I have upgraded to Lion and everything so far is working just fine. I will continue to report any problems I have as they come up.
  9. I agree with BCD. Creating an Image Prop and then using the alpha channel should do the trick. Also on you using VW as a graphics editor why not just use the subscription option from Adobe for Photoshop, it is only $35 per month and they have a month-to-month plan.
  10. Thanks everyone. I will give it a try. I think I am going to purchase it but install "Virtual Box" from SUN and make sure all of my other software is compatible as well.
  11. Has anyone upgraded to OS X Lion yet? I have been thinking about upgrading my OS but wasn't sure if VW 2011 is functioning correctly in it.
  12. Just an update. Yes that was it. I did not have a proper image in the file. Once I did the correct window showed up. Thanks for everyones help.
  13. Thanks, I will give all of your suggestions a try.
  14. I am having a problem with the Create Image Prop command. I remembered it giving me the option of importing a new image or using an image already in my file. However, when I go to the "Create Image Prop" under the Model menu it automatically opens up a window to my local drive asking me to Import a Quick Time Image Document. Is there a preference setting somewhere that gets it back to the two available options of "Import an Image File" or "Reuse an Image From Another Resource"?
  15. Another option, is creating a new wall style and create different wall components with different top and bottom offsets in the wall style editor. I do this all the time to create a 3 foot section of stone, a 6 inch stucco band and then the remaining either being brick, stucco or siding. Works very well.
  16. Wow, I wish that would be a great tool to add. I also wish they would improve on the cabinet tools for VW. They are very limited. I am going to end up purchasing Interior CAD XS.
  17. Ok, so a client of mine that brings me a drawing that someone else did for him. Anyway it has a staircase in it that I have no idea how to even begin drawing it. On top of that looking at it, it appears the person didn't do a good job to begin with. Can someone tell me the best approach in recreating this staircase correctly using VW2011?
  18. Anyone have an easy way to convert a SoftPlan file to VectorWorks?
  19. Thanks Peter. That's what I ended up doing. Once I looked at it I realized how easy it was to model. I created a very basic one and will probably create a more detailed one for future use.
  20. I am trying to locate a 2D/3D symbol for a roof Louver. I specifically would like to find a 24" Airhawk, but will use what ever I can find. Does one exist in the VW2010 library. I have looked through all of the HVAC libraries and don't see one. Could they be somewhere else?
  21. There are several libraries available at: http://www.vectordepot.com/market/
  22. I have created a 2-story plan. However, I am having problems determining the valleys and ridges. The roof I want to have has all the same pitch 7:12. I can not figure out how to draw the 2D shapes to fit the roof I want. What is the best way to determine the valleys and ridges. Of course the roof is too complex for VW to do so I have tried breaking the roof up into several pieces and then combining them. However, what I end up with is an area that does not work, almost like a area the will/would just hold water. I have attached the first and second floor plans. Please help.
  23. Thanks Peter. I thought it would probably be a 3D modeling task. However, I will give your idea a try and see what I come up with. Should be a lot of fun.
  24. How do you create a custom staircase like this one? I Know the radius for the two curved sections and I can pretty much create the staircase. However, the part I can't figure out how to make is the bottom portion that curves out and back in. Do I have to model that in 3D or is there another way?
  25. Thanks. That is what I thought but wanted to make sure. I assume that is why some of my roof faces don't line up?
