  4. I too had some problems with releases prior to 9.0.4, but once I updated (knock on wood) to that release, we have not experienced "too many" problems... One thing of note... I was probably amongst some of the earliest updaters to Mac OS 9.1, and was proud to do so... Maybe a little too proud, as this led to MANY, MANY problems, as soon as I attempted to utilize the newest OS, various apps - most notably Vectorworks (8.5.2.) and its associated programs... Upon giving OS 9.1 the usual new OS "benefit of the doubt" couple weeks, and coming to a near paranoid shutdown, I have since removed OS 9.1 from all my "productive" machines, and have since not had "too many" problems, freezes, etc... I am looking forward to the upcoming carbonized version of Vectorworks 9, but with the need to turn a buck with both my computers and its applications, namely Vectorwork Architect and Renderworks, I will tread softly, most likely on a "spare" computer, until I am as much certain that OS X and Nemetscheks latest VW release will work both reliably and productively... ------------------ C M Harada Perspectives Design Group, ink Denver, CO
  5. Main thing about future carbon support will be the fact that OS X and MP G4 AltiVec Macs will natively "decide" which processor to delegate CPU demand to... This will undoubtedly assist raw and actual speeds, since the Mac hardware/software will send system commands to one CPU, while application commands to the processor not being used. Not quite as impressive as new releases of Photoshop, Maya and other apps that have been developed to take direct advantage of MP G4's, but impressive just the same. I think eventually, Nemetschek will do whatever it takes to provide its users the best CAD/CAM platform, and with this knowledge, maybe we will see actual OS X MP-savvy Vectorworks X (or 11, 1...). More than likely though, it will take similar Intel multiprocessor setups out there to bring this about "quickly"... The other rumor out there is that the upcoming Unix-based Mac OS may be ported to Intel/MIPS machines - if this were to happen (again, just rumors for the time-being...) a quicker response to MP platforms may be forthcoming. Let's keep our fingers crossed! ------------------ C M Harada Perspectives Design Group, ink Denver, CO

  7. Two monitors and Vectorworks really makes one's desktop productive... I use a 21" Trinitron for my setup, which is nice, but eventually you run out of room as you make your workspace bigger... My 17" Studio Display begs for more space after getting spoiled on the 21 and my Powerbooks allow me mobility... However, I have set my assistant up with a Dual Processor G4/500 with two 3dFx Voodoo 5500 cards with two Apple Studio Display LCDs... Man, talk about a nice setup... Matt (my assistant) has really configured his viewspace nicely with Vectorworks running in the active screen (on the left LCD) with his pallets, internet/help access and various MS Office 2001 apps running on the right display... The neat thing that the Mac environment has allowed is this flexibility and customization. Currently I am thinking about purchasing one more Voodoo card (before they are unavailable since 3dFx has gone out of biz...) and one of those new "flight simulator" 3-screen LCD setups... I am looking forward to VW 9.x with OS X support, and to see what kind of speed the dual-processor environment will allow upcoming releases of Vectorworks to produce... ------------------ C M Harada Perspectives Design Group, ink Denver, CO
  8. Have you tried Apple's Quicktime 5 Public Beta (currently r3)? ------------------ C M Harada Perspectives Design Group, ink Denver, CO
  9. What kind of video card(s), processor and amount of memory are you running? Could be that your "neighborhood view" taxes the video portion of your setup - current 3Dfx (RIP) cards such as the Voodoo 5, nVidea's GeForce cards, and ATI Radeon, are able to support "stressful" renderings, reflections, transparencies, etc. I use Macs, but the results should be similar - I however have noticed that my Voodoo cards provide better response/results, and will be upgrading one of my current ATI G4 Macs to the upcoming nVidea GeForce 3 that was shown in Tokyo last week - apparently this will be the card "to beat" for the next year of so... All my machines are running a minimum of 256mb of PC100/133 memory, this helps too... ------------------ C M Harada Perspectives Design Group, ink Denver, CO
  10. What is your "Z-axis" elevation set at? I have noticed that the default insertion is 0'-0" and to get it to respond correctly, I have to change the default to my established ceiling height (normally in the area of 8'-0" or 96"). This and making sure the "show shadows" preferences have been activated, usually gives me the result intended. ------------------ C M Harada Perspectives Design Group, ink Denver, CO
