  1. When entering dimensions for a rectangle poly in 2008 you start by setting the first point with the mouse then entering in the "X" say 3.5" hit the tab for the "Y" enter in a "." and it will not take it. Does some wierd stuff and bangs you back to the "X" field. Now heres the wierd part...you can enter in a fraction as 3/4" but not .75". Bug...huh Anybody else can verify this for me and I will enter it as a bug. Pete A.
  2. The ellipse has finally come out of the closet. And to think we've know it as an oval for all these years. Next thing you know we'll find out that all circles are irrational in circumference.
  3. Andrew, I can send you the file. All of the extrusions are on thier own layer and seperated by class. It's in 13 so I will purge, zip and send the entire drawing with the framing detail layer on. The funny thing is that if you move the model just slightly you'll get better results. But it is very intermittent. Thanks, Pete A.
  4. Thanks Islandmon for the kind words. The wood grain turns you on...huh. If you build it don't forget to take a picture and email it to me. I was watching another thread on the importance or usefullness of 3D/2D. 3D can bring to the table visualization and for those who don't have the ability to see structure from a 2D plan visualization can make the difference in getting the job done right. The best thing about 3D is its accuracy when extrapolated from a 2D environment. I'm shootin' for accuracy of function within the form. My grandfather used to say..."Boy! quit bein such a lacky...did you know they spell lacky...s-i-s-s-y...whipersnapper, get back to work". Pete A.
  5. I submitted this as a bug. To further show what is happening... Original hidden line view Changed view slightly and got this image. It's better but not perfect. Finally with the second image hidden line on top of FQRW inage. I can get things to work but its a hit or miss operation sometimes taking three or four tries to get it right. When you have a complex model you can spend all day waiting for an image and find you need to throw it out because of imperfections. Pete A.
  6. I have created an extrusions based framing detail and when viewed in perspective or iso under hidden line the corners of the extrusions seem to intermittently not display. If I rotate the model I can sometimes get the corners to show but it is a hit or miss. Is there some setting I am missing? This did not show up in V12. I checked off the GDI and made no difference. Also let VW control graphics display. With my models I like to export the FQRW image and overlay with the hidden line image. Looks bad when the corners skip. Any suggestions? Pete A.
  7. Alan, Dworks is correct in that every extrude has an underlying polygon that was used to create the extrusion. By double clicking on the extrusion you will enter into an edit window that displays the original poly. It is this edit environment that you manipulate the shape of the poly in 2D. If you have multiple extrusions grouped together by double clicking the group you can edit the objects in the group seperatly by double clicking on them seperatly. Pete A
  8. Alan, If the symbols are made up of solid extrudes and or groups of lines and solids each one is editable without having to decompose. What are you trying to accomplish by editing all of the symbols? Pete A
  9. Once you enter the dimension distance use the TAB key rather than enter.
  10. The SP1 upgrade to V13 opens with a default window size to the center of the screen. Is there any way to have it stay at last saved state? PA
  11. Didn't I read or see somewhere that the heads up floating display had a fix to allow long decimal and fractional length strings inside the data window. The update version still does not display the entire dimension when taken to the most precise tolerance of 10 digits.
  12. Ray/Pete R, Ray...you are right with the workflow. It took slightly more than an hour to see a slow down happening. I have yet to really test the upgrade. I'm on to my next design in the series but I would like to wait until the upgrade for windoor comes out. until then VW 13 still seams to take some time to register VW windows and doors.... Are you seeing the same delay? Pete A
  13. Is the furniture you are trying to set transparent grouped objects. If so I have found that you must go in an set the attributes of each object within the group to either an individual setting or by class. Another thing might be that your furniture pieces were placed as symbols which would also not take any formatting globally as the original symbol holds the format. Pete A
  14. Jeremy - NNA, This is a comprehensive service pack upgrade that addresses many of the issues 2008 brought out as it was loaded to many differing systems. The NNA engineering staff should be complimented on a job well done to fix many little bugs as well as the memory issues. So far so good. I did notice one thing though when selecting an NNA window or door set in a wall it takes 15 to 25 seconds for the system to populate the OIP. Once the first window or door is recognized in the OIP the following selections are much quicker at only 4 to 5 seconds to populate the OIP. However all of the other memory issues have been taken care of. Thanks for the rapid response. Pete A.
  15. Im just yer average guy with a normal everyday computer purchased within my budget that choked with the installation of 2008. Now that may not be a bad thing if it uncovered the flicking problem. Maybe the need for more power has finally reared its ugly head. Heck I'm not one for poo-pooing any new thing and I've seen a bunch of software in my time...by the way VW is the best by far....real far....really really far. Did I say really really really far. Lets just get to work. Right now 12.5 works and Pete R. you are probably the most correct when you state that MS probably had an upgrade that brought the boils of VW to head....sick. Nothing like a little OS salve to bring out the gunk. Petri...if you have actually talked with ten people who believed you...you are quite the salesman...wow ten people. You know I'm picking. Gotta luv the honesty of these forums. Pete A.
  16. Pete, I ran into this problem years ago when developers were begining to write programs that resided in the windows interface. What was happening was in order to gather data from one window and populate another window they had to make each window active in order to grab the data and then pass it to the other window. So there was an enormous amount of resources being used to switch between windows. VW appears to be doing something similar in that each time you select an object the main window flashes as if it were losing focus back and forth with the OIP with several occurances during the initial data grab. It is not a very clean transfer of info right now. Hopefully NNA will get it right with the next maintenance release (sooner the better) because 2008 is non-functional under XP at present. Pete A
  17. Heather, That one is a little tougher...but doable. The door knobs for exterior and interior doors are brought into the OIP from a library drawing located with your VW program files (this is a default library available when show defaults is selected in the preferences). The location to mine is C:\Program Files\VectorWorks 12.0.1\Libraries\Defaults\Door - Hardware\DoorHardware.mcd. Here you can locate the hybrid symbol(using the resource browser with the library mcd file active) you wish to use and edit the 3D component and change the height through the OIP. Be warned however, that this will edit all occurences of this symbol in the project. So if you are to only need to set the height of one set of knobs duplicate the symbol in the library file change the name and edit the symbols height. Pete
  18. OK let me get this straight...I slightly confused. Is it? How much flick would a screen flicker flick if a screen flicker would flick flicker? I wish I had more time with this...We could all have alot of fun. Seriously... With VW 13 I had a very noticable and extremely obvious display flicker when I selected any 3D object. The system would crank and grind while reading the object data and translating it to the screen. Once the 3D object data populated the OIP moving from 3D object to 3D object worked relatively fine until you would change to another object type like a 2D symbol. This same kind of occurance happens to me in 12.5 but to a lessor extent howeve, the size of my machine compensates for any flicking. It appears that 13 requires more flicking compensation than my machine can handle right now so the flickering is very noticable. Pete
  19. Heather, Simply put yes....for doors only and not for drawers. You must know the location or distance from the bottom of the cabinet where you will need to position your knobs. This can be acomplished through trial and error. Select the cabinet you wish to re-position the knobs and you find at the bottom of the OIP a field entry for door handle (politically correct convention) position. The door knob will alway default to the center of the strike side door stile from left to right...the vertical or in the case of 3D the "Z" position is definable. Islandmon...I never figured you for a professional handle height inspector. Hmmmmm. Pete
  20. Pete, Thanks for the suggestion...the only thing is I upgraded to this card to get 12.5 to run better. I have given some though of installing 13 on my other system which is older with less memory and an older video card...might try that Pete
  21. I can't believe I'm up this late. The task manager process tab tells me the amount of memory usage per process. That is what I am basing my findings on as well as the Physical memory under performance. I started a new multiple unit project with VW 2008 of 6 individual sustainable homes that meet elegibility threshold for sf/occupancy. Started with the smallest one at 840sf. VW should have smoked through that without a blink. So I was kind-of dissapointed when problems showed up. I hope NNA gets this one sorted out. Pete
  22. Ray, Yes...the application continues to run under windows and each keystroke as well as all mouse clicks and movements wait for system resources to be freed up then they execute. Classic hard disk write, seek and display from the pagefile. Pete
  23. Katie, Thanks for the work on this. I know it is more than likely buried somewhere deep in the system. I'm holding on to this new release because of the absolute professionalism and quality of NNA products provided in the past. However, I do get a little cranky when someone takes my crayons from me. Here is comprehensive breakdown of my hardware at present. I have not loaded this on my old system (still relatively robust) to see if I can duplicate the issue. Computer - Intel: Pentuim 4, CPU 3.00GHZ, 3.01 GHz, 2.00GB of RAM Pagefile size - 3070MB (ACPI Multiprocessor PC) My clock speed is high but I am not running in RAID or DUAL Mode. standard keyboard Logitech Cordless Laser Mouse Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter DISK DRIVE - WDC WD25 00KS-00MJB0 SCSI Disk Silicon Image SiI 3132 SoftRaid 5 Controller SiS 182 RAID Controller Operating Software - Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 VIDEO - NVIDIA Chip Type:GeForce 7600 GT, Memory:256, Bios:Version 5.73.22.18.01(just updated) MONITOR - SyncMaster 204T/204Ts/204B, SyncMaster Magic CX201Ts(Digital) 60Hz refresh rate No Virus Software installed (removed 9-27-06) Disabled all resident run non-essential programs I was able to duplicate this problem with several files opened from scratch and empty to start. With one file I imported around 30 textures from another file and that slowed things down considerably so I removed them. That caused the system to go into a locked up state...still running according to the task manager but stayed that way for over ten minutes. I attributed that to the writing back and forth to the hard drive. Other than that there is no specific file. When I notice the slow down I close the file, get out of VW to release the Ram and start it all back up and get another couple of hours of draw time. Last night I tried to add some walls (around eight) when selecting a wall the system would take close to 15 seconds to populate the OIP. Thats when I gave up and came to the board. If there is anything else I can offer please do not hesitate to ask. Pete A
  24. cdavis, I have experienced the same problems with 2008 running under XP. I also have 2gigs of memory with the latest in video upgrades to an allready smokin video card. Here is what I can see so far... I started by cleaning everything out of a vwx-file I mean everything...right down to the basics...all textures, symbols, wall styles, records...everything. Then I began to layout a simple 840sf single level design using only lines. After about an hour of drawing with lines, offsets, arcs and builing a couple of very simple symbols (i.e. a rectangle with the word furnace and circle with the letters HW) I began to notice each time I selected a new object it seemed to take longer for the OIP to populate with the data as well as the offset tool popup and the move distance popup. When this began I opened the task manager and found that VW was using 1.69 gig of memory which completely maxed out all available RAM so the system was utlilizing more disc cache to function. That explains the performance issues. Next I tried to see what would happen if I opened a large file... T en mi n u t e s l at er it opened but was completely residing on disc cache due to the fact that there was no RAM available. I have come to the conclusion that 2008 for Windows XP was not totally tested prior to release. Maybe the mac version works better...have not heard any rumblings from the macites and only one reference from Katie that they are looking into it. Nothing since. I guess we will just have to wait for the programmers at VW to figure out what went wrong and expect a fix soon. In the meantime I have gone back to VW 12.5 which is still active on my system...I'm glad the install did not over-write the previous version. Pete A
  25. Katie, Disabled Norton Anti-Virus Files are all on local machine No Doctors are in the house. I have my PC running...stripped down to its skivvies. Only core systems and VW. Takes about an hour and you begin to notice a lag in all pop-ups like the OIP and Offset and move distance to name a few. When it gets real bad even data entry in the pop-ups is extremely slow. Pete
