Should be just fine, especially if you are not planning on doing any major award wining renderings. For client presentations, council meetings, etc, it will work great. We were doing render-works animations and images on a single PPC G4 800 Mhz, 1 GB ram, 16 MB vid card Quicksilver, and it was OK, ya rough but it worked. Modeling was fine, and we were conscious about material reflectivity (glass), and things that made the render times very long. An image that rendered in 20 min on the old machine takes only a min or two now on a Mac Pro, 2x2.66. So we are happy now. Good luck, Kevin

Under FQRW, the 4 cores max out at 100% each, and Activity Moniter shows VW using about 400% processor (4x100%). But when I thrown in a HDRI file, and render it, Activity Monitor peaks at about 275% (split evenly between the 4 cores). Then as a side, under Radiosity, only one core peaks at 100% and the remaining 3 are at 0%, so I assume is does not support dual processors? Is this a VW thing, and HRDI file thing, or something else?

We use a custom 2d symbol that is has a custom record format attached to it, so we can input text/nmbers, for reference boxes etc... When I go into the symbol to edit the text properties (bold, size), the object info pallet will not update the 'style' of the text (bold, underline) but will update the size. But when I use the menu bar, it updates fine, and stays updated. I don't know if it is with the way the symbol was created, or with the OIP. Anyway, there ya go. Kevin

Was doing the 12.5 install on Mac OS 10.4.7 and after the progress bar indicated 1 of 2 was comlete, I got an error message saying there was an error backing up wprkspaces, the install quit. My concern is this. In the 12 directory, we created an ALIAS that points to a folder on our server that houses all of our workspaces. This is extremely handy as is does not limit the workstation we can work in and VW never had a problem with this setup fron VW10+. Is this alias casuing a problem, as it tries to back up the workspaces? Permssions, as it is on a sharepoint on the server? Are V12.0.1 workspaces compatable w/ 12.5.0? Can I remove the alias, insall 12.5 and add back our aliased workspace with the 12.0.1 spaces? Any advice would be helpful. Kevin

We run Mac OS 10.4.3, on PPC machines with VW 12.0.1 and when we try to Batch Print and save as a PDF, the first page creates a PDF, but every consecutive page is sent to the printer, and actually prints, with no PDF made. I am curious if this is a bug, and if the Batch PDF print feature talked about in 12.5 fixes this? In VW 10 we used to set up a 'Print saved sheets, and each page would individually come up and we could give a individual name to each sheet. A-1.0,, A-1.1 etc. Thanks, Kevin

Cannot guarantee this will work, but has in the past for me. Create a new file, then workgroop reference the 'corrupt file into the new one, bringing in all layers. If that works, hit save, and go back into Workgroup Reference, and delete the 'corrupt file, making sure to select KEEP IN DOCUMENT for both options. Give it a whirl... I might be overlooking something, but I will try. Our office often changes the page setup (page size) so we can print scaled reduced drawings, for check sets, or owners, whatever. In VW12, I believe that you have to go into each Sheet Layer and do a page setup as it appears the page setup (page size) does not follow through to all Sheet Layers. We used to use, and still do for some projects, saved sheets and print directly from the design layers, (VW10), and a page setup would flow through, so we could easily do a 20 page batch print or Print Sheets is what VW10 called it. So is there a way to patch print, from VW12, the sheet layers, at lets say reduced to to on a tabloid sheet without having to go into every design sheet and edit the page setup? When I open a VW12 file with textedit, it shows Vectorworks 12 at the top. When I try that with the minicad file, it shows nothing clearly that I can decipher as a software system. This is a pasedt clip of teh top bit of info from the minicad file. MDDC20

I have a Minicad file that was created 9/24/97, so I am unsure of the version it was created on, MC6,MC7? or another? I need to get the site information off of it, but I am getting the unrecognized file/very old minicad file error message. THe printed docs are in a storage unit, and was hoping someone has found a way to get these file open. I have tried to open it with VW10,11,12 to no avail. I do not see an 'import' option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI, we are running macs (PPC) OS 10.4.5, VW 12.0.1, VW11, VW 10.5 Kevin

I have these 2 doors in a model, nothing special. They are segmented top, as selected in OIP. When rendered with the doors closed, every thing is fine, but when I select Show 3d Open, I get voids at the top of the door frame. See images. Any thoughts? This seems to be evident in all rendering modes, except basic wireframe. When I change the Break options, no change, still the error. Thanks VW12.0.1, Architect mac os 10.4.5

We are working on a residence and the owner wants us to work up a 3d model, through VW 12, so he can understand the site, and how it is located. I have the topo. from the surveyor, that I imported and created a 'site model'. We are 'digging' the back of the garage into the hill, and I am trying to formulate the best way to make a retaining wall, so the 'site model' will reference it and be updated with the cut. We have this same problem and I believe it was around in VW 11 also. Our workaround is to call them, the surveyor, and have them 'explode' all the blocks, this way we have the text associated. I think you also keep the 3d information as a polygon. They then do not come in as a 3d symbol, but usually separate as a 3d polygon and text. I am unsure as to a way we can import the block as a 3d symbol and have the text show. Is it a conflict with a 3d symbol and 2d text. I have tried the three different import options, 2d only, 2d and 3d, and 3d only, same result. This is how we get around it...

Maybe I was unclear, from what I can tell, the 'leader line' is not an option in V11. In workspace editor, it is not under the obvious headings, nor is there anything along the lines of 'leader line' under 'ALL MENUS'. Somewhere I thought I saw it a as VW MECH option only, but cannot seem to find that resource. Thanks Kevin

In V10 there was the 'leader line tool' that we used to make callouts when detailing etc. Now in v11 it is not available. From some trial and error, I found I can import my workspace from 10 into 11 and the leader line is there and works perfectly, but MANY of the 11 features do not work so that is not an option. Since I learned on 10 and I am very addicted to my presets and shortcuts is there a way to get the leader line tool in 10 to work in 11? I know I probably messed myself up, but there must be away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kevin
