  1. Greetings, I imported a building photo into VW2009 and was hoping to present various exterior wall colors, aka PhotoShop. Can VW do this? When I select the image it says "selected object has no edit behavior." Thanks for the help. Marshall
  2. Help. I'm trying to bridge 2D vs. 3D drawing differences. Here's what I've done. I've created walls for a kitchen in top/plan. I've inserted and sized some base cabinets on one wall. I've installed and move a frig symbol into place. I've inserted and sized a column sitting on the cabinet to support a beam above for a pass-through through the wall. So far so good. A right isometric shows me everything nicely. But when I draw a line in front view noting the beams bottom edge, when viewed in either top/plan or top view it is in the middle of the room and can't be moved. Is it possible to draw in 2D and 3D or does it have to be all one or the other up to a point then you make a viewport and continue drawing and annotating there? Marshall
  3. Thanks for the help. That link was especially useful. Marshall
  4. I'm confused about when favorites add to file size. If I have an open design file and I've imported lots of favorites into the resource browser so I can browse them quickly and choose stuff, does this add substantially to that file's size? Is it better to limit the number of resources viewed and just browse for what I want, import it, use it and delete it? How does this work? Thanks, Marshall XP/VW2010
  5. Quick setting question. I went into preferences and made sure that I'd checked the wheel zooms box and had. But when I use the wheel the drawing slowly tracks up or down the screen. Is there another setting that needs selecting to enable this feature? Thanks, Marshall
  6. Greetings, I have a building file that I recently received that includes a number of symbols, gradients, etc. that I don't have that I'd like to be able to access and use regularly on future projects. How do I go about moving, copying or otherwise making them available on future projects? Thanks in advance for any advice. Marshall
  7. OK. thanks cipesdesign. I'll select each and work my way through them. Marshall
  8. Just a newbie question. I've selected smart edge and snap to object. I've got two lines that make up a curb edge. I'd like to draw the back edge of the curb @ 6". I've set the offset to 6". I "T" to both lines and can see the 6" offsets but how do I select that offset and use this useful info? If I spacebar to try to set a 2d locus I lose the point. If I select the line command and then pass over a line or lines and "T" nothing selects. What's the trick here? Marshall
  9. Peter, Thank you. I'll research that command further to see what it does. Marshall
  10. I'm preparing an existing condition basesheet for a kitchen and have a question on how to best do this. My dimensions are from a starting corner. I have dimensions from this point around the room to each feature I need to place. Most dimensions are to the cased edge of a window or door, then the width to the outside edge of that window/door and then on to the next item. I start off marvelously with the wall tool and tab in the first dimension. But what do I do then? I don't want a wall at the window. Is there a way to dimension in the window opening, jump to its far side and then proceed with the next wall section? Or am I doing this all wrong????? Marshall XP VW 2010
  11. Greetings, Trying to print a kitchen design project. All classes and my one design layer are "snap/show/others" and visible. Walls are color filled with a dark grey and are visible on the screen. I print a pdf which also shows the walls. But when I print the pdf, everything (notes, dimensions, appliances, etc) prints except the walls. I've placed the walls on a class called "none". I've tried moving them to another class that is printing but they still don't print although everything else on that class does. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Marshall Windows XP VW 2010
  12. What a remarkably helpful and thorough answer by DownUnder. Many thanks. Marshall
  13. Greetings, I can't seem to conceptualize how to scale 2d objects different than the scale of my drawing/layer. I've created a template. Arch C size drawing with scale set at 1:1 for all layers. Created two classes: propertyline and existing building. Created one layer: Basesheet. When I created the layer I set the scale at 1:1. I've drawn a hypothetical property line with a small building within the boundaries of my drawing. I didn't try to scale this - just eyeballed it on the overall drawing. When I dimension the building it measures something like 2" by 7" rather than something more reasonable like 20' by 36'. This is reflecting my drawing size of 18" by 24". But I want the building to be a different scale. If I change my layer scale to 1/8" then nothing fits on the drawing size I've chosen. What am I doing wrong here?
  14. Greetings, I'm in the 2d selection tool and trying to select several items. But every time I try to start selecting one or more items, the entire property line, moves instead. Have I inadvertently checked a box somewhere that turns off the lasso and select tool?
  15. Greetings, I'd like to delete some hatches from those I've copied into my favorites list. If I do this, am I deleting these from my copy of VW? Or only on the file I'm working on? If I copy the file and use it as a template for future work, I understand that my reduced list of hatches will appear. But by deleting these hatches, should I need additional hatches in the future, will they still exist in my copy of VW so I can copy all the original hatches into a new file? Thanks in advance. Marshall
  16. I've copied entire symbol libraries, e.g. LA Hatches, into the browser as favorites. How can I delete specific ones that I know I'll never use? I highlighted a specific symbol, a north arrow, then right click. The dropdown menu that appears does not include delete. Is there a way to select one and get rid of it? Thanks in advance.
  17. I am hesitant to even post this..... I am struggling with scale. I just can't visualize what is happening. I created an Arch b drawing in setup. I dimension the print edge on screen at approx. 12x18. In the upper left printpage of the drawing I centered a scaled 4-inch circle. I dimension it just to make sure it's 4-inches. It is. So far I'm OK. Scale used is 1"=1'. I then go to the design tab and change the drawing scale to 2"=1'. The ball doubles in size. Ok, I can visualize that, too. But, when I then dimension the much decreased in size drawing, it measures 6x9. I check the dimension of the circle; still 4-inches. Why doesn't the drawing still measure =/- 12x18, too? If the ball is still 4-inches (but visually bigger) why isn't the print edge still 11x18 but just smaller??????
  18. I've created a cluster of lines and polys and selected them. Can I use either the Compose or Group command interchangably to group them together as one item? Do both commands accompish the same thing or do they handle symbols and other items differently? Thanks in advance. Marshall
  19. Robert, So I understand here. They both accomplish the same thing but "duplicate" is quicker?
  20. If I want to do the same thing as Shani.... Can I use either the Compose or Group command interchangably? Do they do the same thing or do the handle symbols and other items differently? Thanks in advance. Marshall
  21. Greetings, I saved a view then made a viewport of it. I then masked part of that drawing and enlarged the result so I could work further on a kitchen detail. FYI, I used the rectangle tool to mask the area. I changed scale and I have a nice detail now to work with but a bounding square around it. Is there some way of turning this off? Thanks in advance. Marshall
  22. Greetings, Question. If I create a series of lines and polys and maybe a symbol, select all objects, can I then use copy or duplicate to create a copy of the object? Do these two commands do different things with various types of objects? Thanks in advance. Marshall
  23. Technoflash, Any idea where I can find these manuals? Marshall
