  1. I've experienced the same problem - I'm also using a logitech mouse (trackman marble wheel). Is this something peculiar to Logitech, or to scroll wheels in general when used with Vectorworks?
  2. Ahah! I figured it out - even though the original polygon was filled, I neglected to make sure it was closed. So never mind on the second issue, problem on the first issue was exactly what Dave suggested in the other forum - the scale of the texture was too small to see! Thanks for the help! heather

  4. Hi Dave, actually, I'm rendering in Custom mode. I think the problem may be what you stated in your first reply, which is that the scale of the texture may be too small in the rendered image to show up correctly. And because I made the fill a colour close to that of the texture... well, I see how I could have screwed up. But I'm also experiencing another quirk maybe you all could help me with - I've applied a texture to an extrude, and regardless of which mapping I use, only the edges of the extrude show any texture. I'll try Kaare's suggestion and turn it into a solid object... Thanks! heather
  5. I've tried perimeter, sphere, plane and cylinder. Also, on another extrude, the texture shows up only around the edges of the extrude. Regardless of mapping setting. One thing I haven't tried is recreating the symbol in another document to see if maybe the file is corrupted. I'll try that now and let you know how it works... thanks!

    some textures

This site has some decent textures - I've used the wood and stone ones with reasonable success http://lemog.club.fr/lemog_textures/acc_textures01.html -heather
  7. I'm trying to apply a texture to extruded rectangles that are part of a deck railing symbol, but when I render the image, the texture on these objects doesn't show up. I've tried the mapping dialogue in the OIP, thinking maybe the orientation of the texture was serving to make it unapparent in the rendering, but in the mapping dialogue window, the object shows up with whatever fill colour it has and no texture. Colour shader: birch, reflectivity: matte, no transparency, no bump. Is there something else that I'm missing here? Something I should have done? All other textures in the drawing are behaving themselves... (posting this to general discussion forum as well) Mac OS10.3.7 VW10.5 RW installed 867Mhz PowerPC G4 512MB SDRAM

  9. Is there a way to set the zoom to the scroll wheel on a two button or three button mouse intsead of having it tied to the keyboard? Mac G4 OS10.3.5 VW Arch. 10.5
  10. An old saw I know, but text wrap in the worksheet would make my life so much more fulfilled... In trying to convince my boss to leap whole hog on the VW bandwagon, I've run into a few flaws, but none so great as the lack of text wrap. Pleasepleaseplease include this in the next upgrade! 11. It would be fabulous if, when editing a group, the rest of the drawing would remain visible, but greyed out, like when the layer options are set to grey others. It would be even more fabulous if you could then snap to this greyed representaion!
  12. More interiors textures would be grand, particularly acoustical tile ceilings
  13. Hi Katie, I know this isn't technically a VW question, but you recommended performing a custom install of QT 5 or up so that exporting images works properly in VW 9.5.3. I recently upgraded my home computer to Mac OS 10.2.1, I'm still running VW 9.5.3 and I just downloaded QT 6.0.3 update. When I installed QT, the option to customize the intallation was greyed out, and now I get the same error message as before in OS 9.2.2. Any thoughts how I can get around this? thanks, Heather
  14. When trying to open a .dwg from our conultants, I constantly run into this "critical openDWG error" about halfway through the process. I've had them bind the drawings, remove the xrefs, nothing seems to work except that they send me dxf files instead, which is very time consuming for them. The conultants are using AutoCAD 2000, I'm using VW 9.5.3, Mac OS 9.2.2. Any thoughts why this may be happening? It seems even more strange that in other projects that I've dealt with the same consultants, I haven't had nearly this much trouble importing dwgs... thanks, Heather
  15. It got eaten up by QT 6.... is there a way to reinstall 4 without having to hunt thru the HD for all the QT plugins?
  16. Help! I installed QuickTime 6.0.3 and now when I try to export a rendering to an image file, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS! I'm running Mac OS 9.2.2, VW 9.5.3 and I was runnning QT 4.?? before installing 6.0.3 and I could export to images. Now I can't.... Any ideas?? Heather
  17. Thanks, Katie - I tried rendering with Fast RW with shadows, and it worked; I'll go try using the one copy of VW 10 in the office and see if that fixes the problem! Thanks again Heather
  18. Hi Katie - I've been having "error of type 2" memory problems with one of my drawings. I'm currently running: Mac OS 9.2.2 30 GB HD 512MB RAM VW 9.5.3 I think the problem revolves around a chair in the drawing and more particularly the legs of the chair - it seems to fairly consistently experience the "error of type 2" at the same point in rendering (right before it gets to the chair legs; about 75-80% complete). The same drawing seemed to render all right with an earlier, simpler version of the chair - one with rectangular legs. The preferred object has cylindrical legs. I've used the VW textures "chrome", "chrome plated", "polished steel" on the legs; I've tried varying degrees of mirror reflectivity; I've tried making the legs both solid add.s and left as extrudes and sweeps; I've tried using custom render with low, med., and high detail, ray traced and mapped shadows - the crash happens consistently if the recursion level is above 1; final renderworks doesn't work at all, nor does fast render with shadows. I read through some of the other postings to do with memory problems and tried to apply the advice - I've set the min. memory from the suggested size all the way up to 400,000 and the preferred size all the way up to 700,000. I've tried having Virtual memory on and off, setting the limit of undos to 5, and the only other things running on my machine at the time are finder and launcher. I'm at a total loss, and desperate for advice! Thanks, Heather
  19. I'm trying to generate a symbol with text in it so that the text can be edited in the OIP data. I've linked the text to a record, but is there a way to limit the width of the text block that then appears on the drawing with the symbol? I'm not too sure how clear I'm being, but what I would like to do is not necessarily have the ability to use the return key while editing a particular field, but to have that field have a specific width when on the drawing and the text to wrap, like it would if I were typing in an ordinary text block. Is there a way to do this?
  20. So: text won't wrap when it's linked to a record. Thanks, all, for the responses.
  21. I've actually tried that, as well as trying to give the text block a specific width in the OIP - the width of the text block seems to get lost in the shuffle somewhere, so that when I go to enter new text in the field of the record it's attached to, the text no longer wraps and seems as if it could go on forever in just one line! Or is there maybe another way of creating a text block? I've tried using the text tool to drag the oulin of the block, and I've tried typing randomly and resizing the block with the selection tool. Neither have worked so far....
