  1. R: Unfortunately using the issue manager creates a sequential revison #. So for example if I'm issuing a set for bid (say issue # 3) and forget to modify the date, I'm unable to change it. If I go back and use the issue manager, it creates another issue,#4. This confuses the contractor who has to manage document issues. There has to be a way to revise this field in case one makes a mistake.

    PRESS RELEASE

Finally, Viewports! How far behind is a dynamic section tool? That is, we were hoping that changes in plan would automatically update building sections (see Archicad). Did you include this capability or are we to wait for version 12? I can only hope this release is more stable than 9.0. Personally given the recent release track record, I will not be upgrading anyting soon. Too bad, because it looks exciting. Unfortunately I don't have somewhere around $10,000 to invest in software beta testing (the amount lost in billing hours in versions 10.0, 10.1, 10.1.2).
  3. Robert: Can you let me know about this issue? Thanks
  4. Robert: Why can I no longer edit issue dates on title blocks scripted with the set-up assitant? Used to be able to change it in 9. Is there someplace other than the title block properties where this can be edited?

    sprinkler heads?

Bummer. Perhaps include in a future release?

    sprinkler heads?

Anyone know where sprinkler head symbols may be hidden?

    sprinkler heads?

Robert: Still can't find sprinkler head symbols. Any ideas?
  8. Here's a thought: Why not give vectorworks ODBC capability (or anything like it) so that we can connect to Excel or some other spreadsheet program (go look at other CAD programs that do this) so that we don't have to use the archaic, clunky, cumbersome worsheets in Vectorworks (i.e.: no word wrap, counterintutive data entry, pull down menu to execute every function?, no individual cell text size/font control, lousy documentation on funtctionality).
  9. Where did you bury a sprinkler head symbol for RCPs and why is it not in the division 13 smybol library?
  10. I'm sorry but to change the scale of a floor plan using the setup assistant is clear as mud. Using Create standard sheets menu, the floor plan scale is grayed out. Its grayed out in the preferences, default scale setting as well. Changing it in the document setup, layer scale does nothing. I finally figured out that I had to remove the plans from the sheets in order to change the default scale. THIS IS NOT CLEAR IN THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE MENUS.
  11. I will have to see. I had a matrox g450 dual head card which I replaced because it did not support open gl (the new ati does) and it was only 32 mb. I did not have problems with crashing using that card and 10.1.2. However I have upgraded to 10.5.1 about the same time as I added the new card, and the problems have started. I will check for new drivers for the ati in the meantime. The 128mb has made a vast improvement in rendering speeds which has been great (It could have been the additional RDram). I have been spoiled by dual head, so going back to one is going to be like tying a hand behind your back.
  12. CRASH CRASH CRASH. I thought this program had finally become stable. Boy was I wrong. Its more of the same. I'm now getting random freezes: changing resource files in the resource browser, selecting a command from a tool bar, paning, etc. No discernable pattern. Where do I send the invoice for repeating lost work? This sucks.
  13. Thanks Andrew. I totally agree. This is a biggie in my opinion. There should definitely be a warning, especially if you are editing the symbol or group. I've been using this software for sometime and I had forgotten, I hate to think about the implications for less experienced users. This definitely needs to be added to the wish list. Unfortunately in my case, I had scaled it "a mano" and not numerically, so I'm hosed wrt rescaling back to original size (too much screwing around to get it back and not worth it). I'm working off a backup so I'm Ok, but thanks.
  14. Actually I was editing the symbol, not the drawing. This is not the first time this has happened. I thought it was because I was using an old file the first time it happened, but this is a new file. I have never trusted the ID tool as it has been squirrelly at other times in other drawings.
  15. So I rescale a door id in my drawing and it resized all objects in EVERY LAYER in the drawing!(note I said resized, not rescaled). The file is toast. Super! Fortunately I backed up last night... Where do I send my invoice for the time it is going to take me to return the data to a usable state at the correct size?

    ATi Video Cards

I bought the ATI T-128 and run two monitors off of it. In renderworks,it has improved rendering speeds significantly for me(I had a 32mb matrox w/o open gl for dual head). I couldn't afford the next step up. I appreciate the open GL support for dual head though. It was cheaper than the comprable NVidia cards. I've come to discover that the second monitor color gets squirrely however. I've heard that if you add a PCI card for a second monitor that you don't have this problem. But I haven't tried it yet.
  17. 10.5.1 fixed most of the bugs in 10.5. So far it seems to be working for me. Version 10 is a superior product to 9 hands down. There are lingering functionality issues which seemed to get ignored, but what is there at least works and doesn't crash incessantly. Best rule of engagement: Upgrade only when you are ready to start a new project. Legacy stability is not one of this software's strong suits. New projects on this new version seem to be OK. You'll appreciate the stability and some of the other convienences.
  18. Freaky. Any nearby electro-magnetic fields? I had a machine go nuts once because there were guys next door welding a metal stairway... Cordless mouse or keyboard? I've had two machines going with cordless devices and they can interfere with each other. If not hardware, sounds like a bad install. The party line will be to reinstall. Make sure you turn off any extensions to get as clean an install as you can. You could also try to disk clean up and defrag your hard drive. Sometimes that can help. Good luck
  19. copied and pasted the address into the start-in and put quotes around it. Doesn't work in 10.5.1. Same method used to set-up 10.1, it worked then.
  20. No. The "start in" in 10.1 was set to open a directory in a networked storage device which contains my project files (data only). Application software is installed and stored on the win2k machine. Again, this setup worked just fine in 10.1, and does not in 10.5.1. Not sure what the problem is. I removed the old 10.1 icon on the taskbar, replaced it with a new 10.5 icon to no avail. I'm stumped.
  21. I upgraded to 10.5.1 (architect) on win 2000. A vectorworks icon (shortcut) on either the desktop or the taskbar when set to "start in" a networked drive, does not open. If set to start in either the program root directory or left blank, it will open. Mapped to a network drive it worked in 10.1. Any ideas?
  22. The vectorscript window which opens when printing (print sheets command) is too big. It takes up one third of the window and you can't see the bottom half of what you're printing.
  23. Any ideas?

    PIO Doors

Does make you wonder. When I begin a project, and use the door PIO, I set the first door to 3/4" jamb (and change a bunch of other default stuff that doesn't make any sense to anyone who has installed a door). Thereafter every door I add will use my defaults instead of the programs for that file. I'd be curious about where to look to change the default. To change all the exisiting, you'll probably have to select them all, then change the jamb thickness. Sorry if this is not much help.
