Hi
We don't open the database directly, but edit it using the Notes Manager within the callout tool. From what I understand, the database is formatted very specifically and you would have to be very careful not to mess up the specific formatting to ensure it still works correctly.

We have done a lot of roofs like this, and it is just a matter of working out the roof plane direction and pitch. You can create a 3D object of the roof plane first to work out both of those.

Thanks Matt, that works a treat for covering unwanted linework etc. How hard would it be to enable lines to be trimmed or extended to the break line?

Agree, each year goes by and the same 'basic' wishes are repeated by the users. And these are fairly fundamental tools for an architectural practice - A Window Schedule!

Here’s a few old wishlist items / threads requesting this, dating all the way back to 2004:

2004, Wow, that's ridiculous. Some of these seemingly 'minor' improvements would make a big difference to the everyday use of the software. I still would prefer the upgrading of functionality of all of the existing tools rather than adding new 'flashy' tools with each new VW release.

It would be good if the break line acted like any other line too, so you could trim or extend lines to it.

We also tried it on a couple of projects, and while we had moderate success, there were too many glitches where we couldn't save and commit or VW crashed and then we couldn't open the working file etc. It wasn't stable enough, so we gave up using it. If we hear that there have been improvements, we will be tempted to try again.

I can only imagine it is difficult to code a tool that would cover all scenarios if you aren't a NVW employee with access to all the code. The foliage tool is probably a good example where it was acquired and integrated to a higher level than could have been otherwise?
Totally agree. NVW should be developing some of the tools mentioned and making them suitable for 'most' common situations. eg. a spouting/gutter that follows a roof slope would be a fairly common situation I would have thought?

Hi BG
I will be talking to Andrea. At the moment it does not follow a sloping roof. I think the tool also needs to connect to his downspout tool. Watch this space.
Hi Bill. This is where tools fall down IMO. All good adding a new tool, but if it can't cater for most of the common scenarios, then it is not really ready for release.

Hi Jonathan. yes we do. That should be high on the priority list - up there with an improved stair tool etc 🙂 Along with automated "architects tools" like automatic floor level lines on sections/elevations, automated grid lines on sections/elevations etc etc
-
I really hope this is a localised issue. This looks just like what we experienced when 2018 was released, and we ended up going back to 2017 for a number or projects - and these projects are still to this day in 2017. Not good.

Hi Bill
Sounds good. Will there be an option for gutters to follow sloped roofs, or just horizontal?

Same, happens often.

I've tried that, but as you say, it doesn't always fix the problem. And, I want to be able to specify exactly where the texture origin is set from. e.g. 50 mm below the floor level or whatever.
-
I get this with every model and it is so frustrating. I would like there to be a coordinate box (or something similar) in the OIP which determines the start point for the texture, so no matter if the wall etc is moved up or down, trimmed, reshaped etc, the surface texture stays where is should be.

That's cool. Good tip.
Thanks

Hi Jonathan, yes it does work in a new file. I spent so long trying to get it to work! In the end I gave up and drew it with lines. Typical
Thanks BG

Hi.
When creating a site using the property line tool, I can't get some boundary bearings to go in the opposite direction. I have tried changing the NE to SW etc, and inputting negative values for the boundary length, but nothing seems to work.
An example bearing is 357°17'30". When entering this, it goes in an upwards direction, when I want it to go downwards.
I am obviously doing something wrong, can anyone suggest a solution?
I haven't used the property line tool for some time, but in previous VW versions I had no trouble with this.
Thanks

This looks like a bug. VW2018 has been very glitchy with graphic display issues.
-
I think having the cladding/wall/roof covering as a separate item - yet is smart enough to recognise windows and doors etc is possibly a good approach to consider going forward. This may also open up the opportunity to have 'proper' claddings eg. weatherboards, roofing trays etc.

Recently installed Vw2018 SP4. Haven't tried all views, but working in Top/Plan, when making changes to dimensions, text etc, the changes don't show until you change view i.e zoom in or out etc. Anyone else noticed this behaviour that wasn't there before?

-
I also tried using the space tool on our last project but due to the very slow/laggy performance, probably won't use it again.
-
This can't be done automatically so you will have to manually add them. This feature has been requested numerous times - fingers crossed for VW2019.

These lines could also be the corners of walls adjoining the exterior wall. Check that you don't have any instances like that, otherwise the lines will always show.
