I still find working in a single full screen View more attractive and did not adapt to VW's multiple View

In addition to some general multi-pane bugginess, one feature that Vectorworks never implemented is the ability to turn on axis-lock (I’m not sure what the actual term is) where different panes can keep any axes which they have in common aligned. For example, with four panes, panning around the Top view pane would also pan in the X axis in the Front view pane, and the Y axis in the Side view pane. And the zoom amount would stay consistent as well. Effectively this gives you aligned orthographic views of an object as if it were drafted.

I’m glad that we have the ability to have each pane be it’s own independent thing, but sometimes I wish we also had an axis lock ability.

Sorry, that was a bit off topic.

  2. Have you tried using the Edit Camera option? It actually doesn't require a RW Camera object to function.

    So the steps would be:

    • Double click viewport and choose Edit Camera.
    • Use the "Align Working Plane" tool (Shift+1) to align the WP to the angled surface.
    • Click the pink "Look at Working Plane" button in the view bar near the top of the screen.
    • Click "Return to Viewport" button, and whatever view you left it in will now be the view of the viewport.

  3. If you're using a recent version and ever have trouble finding a particular tool, you can tap the "F" key to activate Quick Search which universally searches alls tools and menu commands available in your workspace. So you can start typing "Dim..." and it should appear.

If it doesn't appear / if the tool is inexplicably missing from your workspace, you may have to use the workspace editor to add it back, via Tools > Workspaces > Edit Current Workspace.

So out of interest, prior to starting beta testing the future build did you do anything to try + speed things up? i.e. consolidate the resources into fewer favourites files etc.

The only thing that made an apparent difference was removing all my Favorites 🥲

But that was with limited testing. I'm not sure if it gets incrementally worse with more and more favorites, or if a particular favorite file or resource type was causing the bulk of the issue... I would have had to play with it more. Regardless, as you say, hopefully this will an issue of the past once 2023 is released.

  5. Correct.

Hidden line doesn't honor Clip Cubes.

Correct. When it comes to Clip Cube:

Shaded render works in both contexts [Design Layer & Viewports]. Renderworks works in both. Hidden Line works in neither. But Wireframe is inconsistent between the two...

For viewports I often use Shaded Background Render with Hidden Line Foreground Render. Since Cube Cube works with one but not the other, the results are not good 😅

Ideally, one day Clip Cube will work in ALL contexts, thus removing any sort of inconsistency. But I'm sure there are technical limitations which makes this difficult to implement.

  6. Two thoughts:

I generally find that the rasterized Shaded Edges and the vector Hidden Line edges are for different purposes and should rarely be used simultaneously. Since you have the nice Hidden Line edges I don't see a reason to also have the Shaded edges since they're causing most of the visual messiness. Here's what it looks like with Shaded edges removed, still at 300 dpi:

(I know this was already mentioned above, but I'm just going through the steps as well).

Second, remember you can zoom in infinitely on a computer screen. We're examining these tiny circles way more closely than they will end up on a printed page.

If you want to be able to zoom in more and have it still look good, higher DPI is the way to go, or format for a larger page size.

All else is working as expected and looking fine to me.

  7. This happens to me too! There are times where it'll happen multiple times a day to random objects, and it'll come and go. And then there are times when I'll go weeks without it ever happening.

Usually forcing the object to regenerate somehow makes it go away.

I filed a bug on it back in April but there hasn't been any traction on it: VB-186271
