  1. the problem is with windoor this is a plug in correct? if you add a native window it will show up in model checker correct
  2. are you sure that the EAP items have ifc attached? can you upload a reduced file like one wall and all your EAP?
  3. if anyone want to see the vw file that made this then send me a private message and i can send you a dropbox link. (i cannot do it for everyone and i am busy but i will try) the purpose of this is to show what it took to model IF one wants to model with this level of detail.. not sure how one would get interior elevations/sections otherwise.. except for 2d protection drawings which i have done in the past. i would rather model 3d (and suffer with the work arounds) than go back to 2d projection drawings (and suffer the nagging thought "does this really work or is it just a pretty picture) file is 24mb and i purged everything vw2013
  4. thank you jimW for your honest comments.
  5. JimW this is what i am dealing with http://youtu.be/vZfCE6lrRWc so are you saying that the new macpro may not give me a great advantage over the latest machine? ($2000 difference between the 2)
  6. suggestion for a benchmark file for "regular top/plan operations or geometry calculations" http://youtu.be/Vwq7fEsxqsA jim's comment is a game changer if you do mostly 2d
  7. so direct modeling can get us exact 3 inch details BUT is hard to modify. so my thought is to spend development time on making the modeling universe as easy a it can be to make changes in..
  8. and it does not need to be a race. so revit, archicad, vectorworks etc all model the same information (bldg 150) then they make a video on how they did everything. then we can see what the pros and cons are of each the reason for this method is because reading old drawings takes more time than it does to model it.
  9. maybe the focus needs to be like this please watch from 9:15 to 14:00 the machine that changed the world with the new graphics in 2014 i think that vw can continue to make the program a "reach out and grab" universe.. so a true test of the software is not a competition where every vender makes a model or shows off its features, but all venders take the same information (like the bldg 150 drawings shown above) and see who can model it the quickest. producing 3inch details with the least annotation required to finish the detail this would be the real test
  10. with all due respect. I'm not a fan of dialog boxes
  11. for the "benchmark file" why don't we all add to it someone has a dtm (i have one that i can donate) someone else has an array of items etc i have a shape file of all the roads in vermont i can donate that. zooming in and out is jumpy
  12. then we can calculate the value for our own offices. like this: 20 hr work week (modest) times 50 weeks (2 weeks vacation) hourly rate $35/hr (modest) $2000 difference in mac mini & mac pro so 20hrs x 50wks = 1000hr for the year of working with vw $2000 / 1000hrs = 2hrs per 20hr work week so if i spend the extra $2000 will the mac pro shave off 2hrs of work? updating viewports each week? 2hrs = 120min so 120min / 20hrs = 6min per hour so this 6min per hour is a number that an office can really use in making a judgment in how much to spend on hardware.
  13. ok ok ok ok? what would really be useful is this: 1. the vw web site have a file that we can all download. this file has a lot of renderings and section vps 2. we open it and do "up date all viewports" this file has a way of recording the time it takes and collects some computer info 3. this info is sent back to the web site and listed for all to see. NOW we have a common reference point for something real. we can all compare our render time to everyone else. so instead of "i got a Cinebench # of this or that" we can see that you took 5 min to render the file, a file that i am familiar with, and it took me 10 min. this is what we would see: file test 1 5min 45sec 4 cores, 8 threads 2.70 GHz Intel Core i7 - 3820QM CPU Nvidia GeForce GT 650M OS X 10.9.0 THAT'S what we need..
  14. bcd, what was that comment about a mac mini? that is my original question, get a top of the line mac mini, which i only keep for a year or low end mac pro there is about a $2000 difference and if a mini can get me through another year why spend the extra money.. if i get the mac pro am i going to see $2000 worth of speed?
  15. what i am assuming http://youtu.be/6QneHEqJAtw
  16. wow! how do you get so good with this stuff? thanks for all the help. did you get to see the one in Brazil?
  17. ok i see the mention of a bowl as to wider the faster you get in these things the wider one needs to make it so the bottoms are wider
  18. ok thanks did you see how it gets wider and then ends into a bowl?
  19. any idea on how to model this? to see it in google earth search parque marinha do Brasil
  20. well Jim, i guess that does it. i like clear direction. as to the iMacs. i just do not like the idea of paying for a screen. i had mac minis since they first appeared. and I'm only on my second monitor. plus i sell my mini every year and get a new one. easy to sell and ship the mac pro will be easy to ship when i sell it also thanks or all the comments.
  21. was thinking of getting this: New Mac pro 3.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor 12GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory Dual AMD FirePro D300 with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM each OS X Mavericks or Mac Mini 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 16GB memory Intel HD Graphics 4000 OS X Mavericks the age old question is how much of the hardware will VW2014 use for the money spent? will it use the dual graphics card in the new Mac Pro? or will i find out later that it can only use one?
