ErichR
Columns and Walls. I can't get this feature to work, whether or not the auto-join feature is active. The Wall Join tool doesn't seem to recognize the column PIO. V11.5.1 XP Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
You can't actually 'join'a column to a wall, but you can insert it into a wall. This is similar to how doors & windows insert. Does that help? Quote Link to comment
ErichR
That's not the way it's described in the manual. It says, "Walls and columns can be joined together. Any number of walls can connect to the column as long as space exists on the column." Hence, my query. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
HMM. That's very interesting, although (someone correct me if I'm wrong!) incorrect. I think you can still get the effect you're after. You just need to draw the walls first, then place the column(s) where you want them... Quote Link to comment
ErichR
As you suggest, the colum PIO does of course act on walls. However, it does not appear to 'join' with the wall, as advertised. This is not such a minor issue. If you want the lines to describe just the outline of the wall + column, you will be hard pressed to do so. In other words, by plugging the column into the wall you have to accept the lines that describe the column, and the column butting into it. The result is limiting and looks, and is, incorrect. NickB
I think the confusion is between the column command (Model>Architectural>Column...) and the column PIO object. Drawing a polygon and then defining it as a column with the column command does indeed allow walls to join to it. hope that helps, Nick Quote Link to comment
ErichR
NickB It's the AEC>Column... command in my version. And yes, it does work. The manual could use a few more words here. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
